Mediaportal has some nasty problem with ATI cards using the "EVR-mode". EVR is needed for H264-acceleration and HDTV. Many new HTPCs uses the new 780g-chipset from AMD, as this is the first motherboard-chipset that does accelerate all forms of video codecs like H264, VC-1 and MPEG2. This video shows the flickering gui of Mediaportal after you switch on TV using a DXVA-enabled codec (in this case: PowerDVD 8). There is no solution for this problem, yet. You can use VMR9 as this does not flicker so much, but then you don't have DXVA2 enabled which you need for accelerating H264.(Less)
