Mean while Alexander Hamilton was writing letters attacking Burr this angered Burr. Burr then challenged Hamilton to a Dual. Hamilton accepted but lost the dual and died because of it. Fearing murder charges he fled to North Carolina. He then spent the rest of his life as a fugitive living in England, Mexico then finally quietly dying in New York. Hamilton Alexander Hamilton was the illegetiment child of James Hamilton. He live most of his early life almost as an orphan. In 1775 Hamilton joined the volunteer army were he quickly gained rank and became a lieutenant. He captured a British battery witch he took and turned in to his own unit. Hamilton made this unit on his own using donated funds to buy equipment and uniforms. Hamilton like Burr became a war hero in the eyes of the people. Hamilton was known because of his successful assault on the fortress at Yorktown. Also like Burr this recognition helped his political career. Hamilton career as a politician stared just like Burrs as he became a New York Assemblymen. In 1789 George Washington appointed Hamilton to the office of Secretary of Treasury. Where he served until he resigned until 1795, but he still had a lot of political influence for the rest of his life. He also did a lot of things that still could be felt today, and had many political views that are still fought for today. As a founding father he helped found the U.S. mint and Coast guard. He also started the federalist party Americas first large political party. His legacy can also be recognized in his work with the constitution. He also is responsible for giving the federal government more power then states. He also opposed slavery and favored business.
