On November 12, 2007, Canada's west coast experienced it's first major winter storm of the season. Winds were the highest on record clocking in with gusts up to 124 km/h in Powell River and many other areas. Thousands were left with out power for many days. A number of highways were closed because of trees toppled across them. The ferry service was shut down for much of the day as it was too wild to sail. The storms seem to be increasing in severity each year. Is it an indication of global warming? Whether it is or not, take the time to put together an emergency kit for you and your family.
