Now, (More) Man thinks 'cause he rules the earth he can do with it as he please And if things don't change soon, he will. Oh, man has invented his doom, First step was touching the moon. Now, there's a woman on my block, She just sit there as the night grows still. She say who gonna take away his license to kill? Now, they take him and they teach him and they groom him for life And they set him on a path where he's bound to get ill, Then they bury him with stars, Sell his body like they do used cars. Now, there's a woman on my block, She just sit there facin' the hill. She say who gonna take away his license to kill? Now, he's hell-bent for destruction, he's afraid and confused, And his brain has been mismanaged with great skill. All he believes are his eyes And his eyes, they just tell him lies. But there's a woman on my block, Sitting there in a cold chill. She say who gonna take away his license to kill? Ya may be a noisemaker, spirit maker, Heartbreaker, backbreaker, Leave no stone unturned. May be an actor in a plot, That might be all that you got 'Til your error you clearly learn. Now he worships at an altar of a stagnant pool And when he sees his reflection, he's fulfilled. Oh, man is opposed to fair play, He wants it all and he wants it his way. Now, there's a woman on my block, She just sit there as the night grows still. She say who gonna take away his license to kill? "Jokerman"/"License To Kill" - 7" promo singles, CBS A 4055 (UK/Spain), Apr 1984: JokerSpainPromoFront.JPG (27964 bytes) CBS A4055 (Spanish promo) - front of sleeve (my copy) R-0161 Jokerman - single edit, faded out at 4:30 CBS A4055 promo 45 (Spain) has radio edit (4:30) on one side, with the album version of Licence To Kill (3:31) from Infidels on the other. The Jokerman song length is misprinted as 4:00 but it is the 4:30 edit (I played it and timed it!). I can only assume that the intention was to use the 4:05 edit (R-0605, see the US single below). The Spanish label does not have the catalogue number, it's part of the matrix number on the vinyl itself. Subject: Space Travel From: "L. Horton" (horton@bway.net) Date: 1996/06/06 Rocket ship The EDLIS Things Twice Agency is rounding up information on a recurring thread about Dylan's opposition to space travel. Here is what we have so far: It has been observed several times in postings to this group that space travel is a long-standing anathema to Dylan. Some time ago an EDLIS informant wrote: One of the major and consistent planks of our hero's political ideology is opposition to rocket ships. . . . [Its] interesting to find one issue where Dylan has presented a consistent opinion and never felt inclined to joke about or strike a mock pose on the topic. The strongest lyrical statement against space travel is found in License To Kill: Man thinks 'cause he rules the earth he can do with it as he please And if things don't change soon, he will. Oh, man has invented his doom, First step was touching the moon. Challenger Launch Two weeks after the Challenger Space Shuttle Disaster, on February 12, 1986 in Sydney, Dylan gave a rare 1986 performance of License To Kill. In his introduction to it, Dylan reiterated his anti-space travel position in no uncertain terms: All right we're gonna try something different tonight. Here's something I wrote a while back, about the space program. You heard about the tragedy right? It really was. It really was a tragedy though 'cause you see the people had no right going up there. Like, there's not enough problems on Earth to solve? So I wanna dedicate this song to all those poor people who were fooled into going up there. Other lyrical references with negative implications regarding space travel include Union Sundown: They used to grow food in Kansas Now they want to grow it on the moon and eat it raw. I can see the day coming when even your home garden Is gonna be against the law. . . . From Broadway to the Milky Way, That's a lot of territory indeed And a man's gonna do what he has to do When he's got a hungry mouth to feed. and The Devil's Been Busy [Traveling Wilburys Volume 3]: Steaming down the highway with your trucks and toxic waste Where you gonna hide it, maybe outer space? The liner notes from Planet Waves show Dylan's contempt for astronauts: NASA Space guys off duty with big dicks & duck tails all wired up & voting for Eisenhower, waving flags & jumping off fire engines, getting killed on motorcycles whatever--we sensed each other beneath the mask, pitched a tent in the street & joined the traveling circus, love at first sight! -- --Larry Rocket ship Waiting To Find Out What ! I have a plantation in Georgia. Oh, I'm also working on a rocket. A little rocket. Not a big rocket. Not the kind of rocket they have in Cape Canaveral. I don't know about those kind of rockets. [773] Anyone have a tape of this performance? What exactly does Bob say about the space programme? Introducing Licence To Kill (21) -- not a common concert number -- he refers to America's tragedy, "They had no business being up there..." The reference is to the Space Shuttle Disaster. This is the concert where Stevie Nicks joined in on guitar and vocals for Knockin' On Heaven's Door (27) and then the Australian authorities tried to deport her because she had performed without a work visa... One of the major and consistent planks of our hero's political ideology is opposition to rocket ships. Anyone care to guess why? Most kids like rocket ships. And 1950s American television was pretty pro-rocket ships, was it not? Or is it a fan-split thing, if you modelled yourself on Matt Dillon you did not like space tv, if you liked the space shows you hated the westerns? Just interesting to find one issue where Dylan has presented a consistent opinion and never felt inclined to joke about or strike a mock pose on the topic. Rocket ship My memory may be failing me here, but I don't recall much space talk until the USSR launched the Sputnik satellites. That was 1957, when Bob was probably a sophomore or junior in high school. Then there was much concern that we were a bunch of math and science illiterates and we had to shape up--but that mostly affected children in the lower grades. However, after that, all the hype about our astronauts and "The Right Stuff" (not called that until much later, but it wasn't hard to figure who was the clean-cut astronaut type) I can imagine didn't sit well with his disheveled bohemian James Deanly Bobness. Or, maybe he just thinks the space program has been an appalling waste of financial resources while so many social and environmental problems have been ignored. ***************************************************************************** Sandy Ramer Take what you have gathered from coincidence. It reflected various previous threads from the newsgroup. E.g. the title UFO reflected a comment some time ago that one of Bob Dylan's few political consistencies is that space travel is wrong. I don't have any particular problem with Dylan's well-know opposition to space travel -- but "first step" .... after Auschwitz, after Hiroshima, after Nagasaki, after the Cuban Missile Crisis..... Another line which I find really silly, but nonetheless enjoy is Dylan's self-dramatizing declaration Alright, I'll take a chance I will fall in love with you If I'm a fool you can have the night You can have the money too! "Overkill" is a song by the heavy metal band Motörhead. It was released in 7" and 12" vinyl pressings in 1979. It is covered with B-side "Too Late Too Late" which appears on the CD re-issues of the Overkill album. Early copies came with a free 'Overkill' badge.
On March 9, 1979 the band played this song on the BBC TV Top of the Pops show, to support the release of the single.
A song that induces mixed feelings at live concerts, "Overkill" is usually played as the last 'encore' and normally represents the very last chance for fans to "strut their stuff" at a live gig.
The artwork on the sleeve was created by Joe Petagno, based on his design for the album's cover.
In 1995, during the recording of the album Load, "Overkill", "Damage Case", "Stone Dead Forever" and "Too Late Too Late" were covered by Metallica, as a birthday gift for Lemmy, and released in 1996 on their "Hero of the Day" single. The single was released as a two CD single, the "Overkill" track is the second track on the first CD single, and was also used on the second disc of their 1998 cover album Garage Inc.. The single reached 60 on the U.S. Hot 100, 1 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock, and 17 on the U.K. Singles charts.
The song was covered by Overkill, who took their name from the Overkill album by Motörhead, and appears as the first track on their 1999 album Coverkill.
Overkill
Only way to feel the noise is when it's good and loud,
So good you can't believe it's screaming with the crowd,
Don't sweat it, get it back to you,
Overkill, Overkill
On your feet you feel the beat, it goes straight to your spine,
Shake your head you must be dead if it don't make you fly,
Don't sweat it, get it back to you,
Overkill, Overkill
Know your body's made to move, feel it in your guts
Rock 'n' roll ain't worth the name if it don't make you strut,
Don't sweat it, get it back to you,

"Born to Raise Hell" is a song by the heavy metal band Motörhead. Originally written by Lemmy for the German band Skew Siskin, it plays over the opening credits of the film Airheads.
The song was released as a single in 1994, featuring Lemmy, Ice T and Whitfield Crane. The single features a 'Radio Edit', the original Bastards album version and a 'Dust Brothers Live and Funky Mix'. A special 12" vinyl picture disc pressing was made, using the same picture as the CD single release.
This version was recorded in addition to the previous recordings of "Hellraiser" and "Hell on Earth", as a last minute job to play over the end credits of the Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth film, although it didn't appear on the film's original soundtrack album.
Born To Raise Hell
Listen up here, I'll make it quite clear
I'm gonna put some boogie in your ear
Shake and bop, don't you stop
Cance like a maniak until you drop
I don't mind, I don't mind
I can tun a razor right up your spine
What are you waiting for
What do you think you were created for
Show us, you care, show us you dare
You don't know what happened, not if you weren't there
Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell
We know how to do it and we do it real well
Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell
Voodoo medicine cast my spell
Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell
Play that guitar just like ringing a bell
Take it or leave it
Going for broke, rock 'til you choke
It don't matter if you drink or smoke
Speak through the beat, get up on your feet
Sweating like a hpund dog, white as a sheet
Don't you be scared, don't you be scared
Everybody terrified, it don't seem fair
What are you waiting for
What do you think you were created for
Out of your seat, blind in the heat
Do the nasty boogie mama, stomp your feet
Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell
We know how to do it and we do it real well
Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell
We know how to do it and we do it real well
Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell
Go back to zero take a pill and get well
Be a good soldier and die where you fell
Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell
We know how to do it and we do it real well
Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell
Go on out and boogie 'cos you never can tell
Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell
Be a good soldier and die where you fell
Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell
We know how to do it and we do it real well. (Less) Channel: youtube

Born To Raise Hell Listen up here, I'll make it quite clear I'm gonna put some boogie in your ear Shake and bop, don't you stop Cance like a maniak until you drop I don't mind, I don't mind I can tun a razor right up your spine What are you waiting for What do you think you were created for Show us, you care, show us you dare You don't know what happened, not if you weren't there Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell We know how to do it and we do it real well Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell Voodoo medicine cast my spell Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell Play that guitar just like ringing a bell Take it or leave it Going for broke, rock 'til you choke It don't matter if you drink or smoke Speak through the beat, get up on your feet Sweating like a hpund dog, white as a sheet Don't you be scared, don't you be scared Everybody terrified, it don't seem fair What are you waiting for What do you think you were created for Out of your seat, blind in the heat Do the nasty boogie mama, stomp your feet Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell We know how to do it and we do it real well Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell We know how to do it and we do it real well Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell Go back to zero take a pill and get well Be a good soldier and die where you fell Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell We know how to do it and we do it real well Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell Go on out and boogie 'cos you never can tell Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell Be a good soldier and die where you fell Born to raise hell, Born to raise hell We know how to do it and we do it real well.
