Awake now, she makes up her mind to leave her husband and drive off on the wedding present Daniel gave her: a motorcycle that will take her across Europe to Daniel, abandoning her husband far behind... Scripted by Ronald Duncan, from director Jack Cardiff's adaptation of Andre Pieter DEA Mandrakes' novel, Girl on a Motorcycle presents itself as the ultimate in sixties permissiveness from the start. Rebecca dresses herself in a leather jumpsuit with nothing on underneath, and is scandalously intending to commit adultery, more for the thrill of sex than the power of love. We are privy to her thoughts as she zooms along the country roads, thanks to Faithfully breathless whosoever and the extensive flashbacks. She not only recalls the events that have brought her to this stage, but also imagines her future and relates her observations on war and free love, all to validate her happening credentials. Rebecca has grown to despise meek schoolteacher Raymond, who we see being made a fool of by his pupils. What she needs is a virile, pipe-smoking intellectual like Daniel, who will treat her the way she treats Raymond - she wants to be dominated, and happily gives in to Daniel's mind games. So she's not half as independent as she should be, because leaving her husband isn't much of an act of liberation when she's running to the arms of Daniel. It may be rebellion, as she claims at the beginning, but it doesn't set her free. Cardiff photographed the film, too, and indulges himself with various tricks, such as the psychedelic polarization techniques that jazz up the images of lovemaking, or the rather clever 360 degree shot around Rebecca as she rides on her bike. The story also doubles as a nice travelogue, with numerous shots of the French and German countryside, and the Swiss skiing holiday that Rebecca and Raymond go on. Faithfulness motorcycle is patently sitting on a trailer for many of the driving scenes, as all the while she laughs and smiles in anticipation, even working herself up into a sexual frenzy, with the bike as a substitute for Daniel. Girl on a Motorcycle ends up being quite endearing in its attempts to be cutting edge and daring, with unintentional humour arising from Rebecca's "shocking" behaviour. At one point, she starts shouting, "Bastard!" as she drives along a busy street, causing one gentleman to turn around, incensed. During one of the countless flashbacks and imaginings, the kinky nature of Rebecca and Daniel's relationship sees her sinking her teeth into his shoulder as he beats her with a bunch of roses, all in migraine-inducing colours. However, the film doesn't have the courage to give Rebecca what she wants, and the ending looks like punishment for her radical behaviour. Either that or it's a warning not to drink and drive. Tired of listening to the noise of sweaty palmed teenagers replacing their Zena posters with cut-outs of "The Bride" and telling their (often imaginary girlfriends) to stop wearing push-up bras and Goth makeup and start dressing like a petrol station attendant in samurai land, I picked up this little 'cult classic' for some light relief the other day. Sadly whilst light, the relief was not instantly forthcoming. In fact I was faced with another English Rose in a cat suit off to put the world to rights. Luckily she wasn't pregnant and whilst one of her lovers was decidedly gawky there was no unconscious rape scenes or cleverly unimaginative pregnancies to be seen here. There was, however, plenty of unwarranted special effects, though this time at least they hadn't been worked at so hard at as to put you in a moral bind when you find yourself thinking how shit they are. Anyway that's enough of me picking on Quarantine's girl on a vendetta, what about Girl on a Motorcycle. Well, long before Last Tango in Paris, Electra Glide in Blue, and a little bit before Easy Rider came Girl on a Motorcycle. But try thinking of all those films, take out the sex, drugs and rock and roll, then take out the ugly actors and replace them with the beautiful Marianne Faithful and handsome Alain Delon. Finally make Marianne Faithful a young virgin discovering the divides between lust, love, marriage and motorcycles, and Alan Felon the devilishly-charming philosophy professor speeding her discoveries. Sweet, simple and unpretentious I really enjoyed this meandering journey across Alain's Europe, Marianne's body, a couple's illicit affair and a Sixties' take on sex, youth, gender and freedom. If only the psychedelia could be edited out and a little more naked Marianne edited in... Still, after watching Girl on a Motorcycle it came as no surprise to me that Jack Cardiff never really made much of himself territorially, this lacks both enough eye candy and technical expertise to be a genuine movie classic. It is, however, a cult classic and: if you think a Norton Commando is an anti-virus program; or if when you caught her in Intimacy you didn't have to pause a moment to create a second older and less perfect Marianne Faithful in your head; or you need adrenalin and steroid pumped hyper-referential blockbuster 'cult-classics-before-they're-released' kind-of-films wait for it to get aired late-night on channel 4 and fall asleep to it as you are reminded what the phrases 'down to earth' and 'real' and 'sweet' actually mean 6.5/10 (4 if the words "Marianne Faithful", "Harley-Davidson" and the tangling "She's always naked under leather" don't make you sweat like a 21st century Hobbit choosing between playing with the naked blade of a Satori Hannis or with its catsuited owner) S is for Serge Ginsburg worked on all the best girls 09/05/05 Girl On A Motorcycle Original Soundtrack Les Reed Notes A brilliant soundtrack composed and arranged by Les Reed, and very much of it's time when the film was released in 1968. Tens of thousands of young fans shut down central Tokyo today in an extraordinary outpouring of grief for a rock guitarist who hanged himself One fan followed him in suicide, and two tried. Helicopters buzzed over the Buddhist temple where as many as 50 000 lined up outside services for Hideto 'hide' Matsumoto. TV networks went live as ambulances carted away dozens overcome by emotion and the 82-degree (28c) heat.
Matsumoto killed himself on Saturday, leaving nothing to explain why. His group (X-JAPAN, one of Japan's most popular) broke up in September, Matsumoto had a solo tour planned for the summer.
'I can't believe he's dead',said Mayumi Meguro, a 21 years old part-time worker who took today off for the services. She stood in line with throngs of people in their teens and 20s, many in black, many with the brightly dyed hair that was a trademark of X-JAPAN. They waited to sign their names and leave flowers.
Initially unprepared for the turnout, workers at Honganji Temple set up a first-aid room after about 12 000 fans visited the temple for Matsumoto's wake Wednesday. By late today, 26 people had been hospitalized. Police sent helicopters, boats and about 100 officers to the temple. Another 170 private security guards were deployed to keep the fans from disrupting traffic. Alarmed by the response, Matsumoto's old band mates have urged mourning fans to stay calm. They have reason to be fearful.
A 14 years old girl was declared dead today after hanging herself Monday night at her home in Tokyo, using a towel tied around her neck, the same method Matsumoto used. Another girl jumped from a bridge Monday night butsurvived, and on Wednesday a 19 years old woman who attended the wake was taken to the emergency room after she cut her wrist with a paper knife. A monk at the temple, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the cuts were superficial. If precedent holds, more attempts could follow.

Having been drinking heavily on the night of May 1st, hide returned to his apartment with his brother and female friend (reports vary from her being his girlfriend to being just a friend). hide was promptly helped into bed by this female and, upon her return to check him, she found him in the bathroom, a towel tied into a noose around his neck. He was unconscious and was immediately rushed to hospital, but was dead upon arrival. 8:52am, Saturday May 2nd, 1998 -- one of Japan's greatest musicians was lost.
Police investigation showed no signs of a break-in and the case was closed as being 'suicide', though family members later forced them to change it to 'accident'.
There are many theories regarding his death -- from murder and practising for a stage stunt, to autoerotic asphyxiation and suicide due to depression. hide's friends and relatives claim they are entirely sure it was an accident. Many consider the single 'Pink Spider' (released a few days after hide's death) to be a suicide note, as the lyrics tell the story of a 'Spider' wanting 'wings' so he can be free.
hide's funeral at Tsukiji Hongan-ji on May 7th brought fans from far and wide, many skipping work to stand among the giant crowds outside the temple. The next few months (and even years) were difficult for fans, friends and relatives alike.

I'm very shocked to hear about his death. I still can't believe what has happened. Right now, he's sleeping with a beautiful face. I tried to wake him up many times, but he's still sleeping.
Between the five of us, hide was the one who kept his calm and thought out things. Even though I was the leader, he was the calm one who gave me good advice when I was being short tempered and emotional. Of course with all that pressure, he too almost lost his identity. But during those hard times, he'd always give me a call. We would talk about X, music, friends, life, fans, almost anything. He was like a big brother to me and sometimes like a young brother too. We'd drink together and sometimes fight. But the next day, he'd come to me and say, "Yoshiki, have I done something last night? I'm sorry, I don't remember a thing." But this time, he didn't say anything back to me... sleeping.
To all fans and friends, you must all be confused. I also cannot express this sadness in words, but we must understand and accept this painful reality. Everyone please watch over his eternal sleep warmly. (X Japan leader - Yoshiki) (Less)

Bryan (Liam Neeson), a former secret agent living in the US. He is skilled in hand to hand combat, divorced; and loves his 17-year-old daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) who lives with his ex-wife and her new husband Stuart (Xander Berkeley). Kim wants to take a vacation in Europe with her friend Amanda (Katie Cassidy), and together follow U2's European tour. Kim's mother allows this, but Kim also needs permission from her father. Since Kim fears that Bryan will not consent, she pretends that they will only stay in Paris. Reluctantly, Bryan agrees.
In Paris a seemingly friendly young man named Peter (Nicolas Giraud) proposes to share a taxi with them to the house where Kim and her friend are staying, and so they do. However, the man works for an Albanian Mafia|Albanian criminal organization, to which he reports the address.
In the house, after a few minutes Kim receives a phone call from her father, where she then goes to the bathroom. She then sees from the bathroom window, men entering the room and abducting Amanda. Bryan is able to gain critical information about the kidnappers in the final moments after Kim is kidnapped by telling her to shout out everything about them that she notices. Briefly Bryan talks to one of the kidnappers, telling him that if they let his daughter go he will not pursue them, before the man smashes his daughters phone.
Using his contacts in the CIA and the business connections of his ex-wifes husband, Bryan travels to Paris to find her, informed that the kidnappers are sex-slavers and that he has only 96 hours to recover his daughter before she will disappear forever. The particular kidnapper he talked is revealed to be an Albanian named Marco.
Under the eye of Jean-Claude, himself a former operative and now deputy director of Internal Security, Bryan locates the kidnappers, first by using the digitial photos off the smashed remains of Kims phone to locate Peter who is later killed while Bryan pursues him. By hassling prostitutes Bryan is threatened by an Albanian mobster and is able to plant a covert listening device on him. Using a translator he finds that the kidnappers have a brothel in a nearby construction site.
Once arriving, Bryan acts like a customer, and after making his way inside begins to search for Kim. Unfortunately, he only finds her jacket, on another woman. He then is discovered and has to escape with the girl.
Nursing the girl back to health from an involuntary drug addiction, Bryan finds out where the kidnappers took her after she was abducted. Bryan heads to the address, and though he doesn't find Kim, he does find Marco, subduing him and killing most of the kidnappers. He searches for Kim, but instead finds Amanda, handcuffed to a bed and dead due to a heroin overdose. Torturing Marco, Bryan is able to ascertain that Kim was sold to a man named Saint Clair.
Bryan visits Jean-Claude's home and its dinner time there. However Jean, failing to have Bryan arrested for the mess he has caused at Paris, carries his gun to the dinner table. Jean angrily points the gun at Bryan when accused of complicity in his daughters abduction. Bryan has already unloaded the gun and shoots Jean's wife on her arm and, holding Jean, discovers the location of Saint Clair from him.
Acting as a police officer he gains entry to the building where new girls are being sold. When he sees his daughter being sold, he forces one of the buyers to purchase her, but is captured and knocked unconscious moments later. Suspended from the ceiling, Saint Clair questions his identity before leaving his security guards to execute him. Bryan escapes and kills them before finding Saint Clair, murdering him after learning that his daughter is being taken by Arab clients. Bryan manages to track down the car his daughter is being taken in and finds out that she is taken away on a large motorboat. He jumps on to the ship from a bridge and eliminates all the people inside, finally freeing his daughter.
Back in the US, Kim is reunited with her mother. Bryan introduces her to a pop Diva (Holly Valance) whom he saved at the beginning of the film from a knife attack while working security, Kim having an audition with the Divas vocal coach. (Less)

Experimental film describes a range of film making styles that are generally quite different from the practices of mainstream commercial and documentary film making. The story tells of a classical, melodramatic relationship between two protagonists. The common situation - young chap goes to visit a girl at her place. It is sort of a date. The film appears to loop and the dialog and action seem to start over and over. The editing is rough, with all the bad shots, film dust, scratches and asynchronous non-diegetic sound. The filmmakers aim was to give the camera to unexperienced people, that have nothing related to the film and see what they can do within 3 hours. With a gaze that is simultaneously humorous, ironic and critical, the protagonists tracing the unconscious process that are ultimately responsible for so many behavior norms and cliched images. Moreover, the speed of the images varies. It seems accelerated and then slowed down, and additional fades create further ambiguities. The authors of the film examines the mechanism of the tv, film and music industry, where mass production, the cult of the body and sex enter into a questionable alliance. (Less)

Nick: I think that were done fighting. I wrote you a song. (Hands her a piece of paper) Read it and then answer the question whether we should be together or not. (leaves)

Scene: Taylors House
Taylor: (talking on the phone to her ex-boyfriend *not Joe*) Why dont you understand? We cant be together anymore!
Cody: But babe, were meant to be together!

Cody: I know you broke up with me for that Jonas boy. But now that you broke things up with him, lets be together.

**Scene: The Jonas Household**
Taylor: (rings the doorbell)
Nick: Taylor? Let me guess, youre here to see Joe right?
Taylor; Yeah, I am. Where is he?
Nick: I dont know how to tell you this....hes on a date....with another girl.
Taylor: (stands there in shock) with...another girl? (Repeats it again to herself because shes heartbroken) WITH ANOTHER GIRL???
Nick: Im sorry Taylor. Want me to tell him you came?
Taylor: No. Dont even bother to mention it to him. Hes too busy with another girl, and we just broke up this afternoon! Thanks for telling me Nick. Bye. (Turns around and leaves)
Scene: Emergency Room (Brenda took Kevin there)
Brenda: Please! I need help!
Doctor: What seems to be the problem young lady?
Brenda: Well...this is Kevin, and he was stabbed about...3 hours ago?
Doctor: NURSES! We need an EKG, SST, and an X-Ray A.S.A.P.!
Nurse: (puts Kevin on a gurney)
Brenda: Where are you taking him?
Doctor: By the looks of it, hes very pale and hes been unconscious for quite a while now. If we dont do something soon, your friend wont make it. We have to take him into major examination. Wait here. (Leaves with a few other nurses)
Nurse: Hello, Im a mental Psychologist, the best around the area. My name is Karen; can you step into my office please?
Brenda: Sure, but why would a Mental Psychologist want to see me?
Nurse Karen: It seems there is no other possible reason for your friend Kevin to be hurt. Have you ever been so mad, you feel like hurting someone? Do you have a past mental record? Ill look you up in the computer. Just sit in this chair and think about happy things!
Brenda: Look Mrs. Whatever your name is, I know you think Im crazy but I have a logical explanation for this.
Nurse Karen: Okay, then explain it (takes out a piece of paper and a pen) Im ready.
Brenda: Well...I...

Hell bent on revenge and with no regard for his own safety, Galvin (More) Galvin (Philip Glenister) lets his emotions get the better of him when his wifes murderer, Mr Tibbs (Kevin McNally), arrives in town. Hell bent on revenge and with no regard for his own safety, Galvin arms himself to the hilt and embarks on what amounts to little more than a suicide mission, attempting to break into the hideous rat mans lair alone to exact his much dreamt of retribution.
Once inside, Mr Tibbs is nowhere to be found but evidence of his presence is all around. Jars of laboratory bottles line the shelves containing terrifying specimens and in the corner, a young woman (Grace) is locked in a cage. With a gaggle of nasty type fours hot on his tail, Galvin makes a desperate bid to escape but with the woman in tow its increasingly difficult. Luke (Christian Cooke), Mina (Zoe Tapper) and Ruby (Holliday Grainger) arrive just in time to save the couple. They speed off, leaving the baying half-lives in their wake.
He might have saved the girl, but Galvin isnt satisfied, thirsty for vengeance, he wont rest until Mr Tibbs is dead. He and Luke head off to the sewers to find the rat man leaving Mina and Grace safe in the Stacks.
But Galvin, blinded by his emotions has played straight into Mr Tibbs hands. Before long, Grace lies dead in the stacks, with Mina unconscious next to her, a bomb ticking at her feet.
Meanwhile Luke and Galvin reach a dead end in the sewer and it slowly dawns on them, the water levels are rising and that theyve walked into a trap.
Help for Mina comes in an unlikely form Ruby, who is stunned to discover the scene that confronts her. With the timer reading one minute and Mina out for the count, theres only one thing for it - Ruby must take a wild guess at which wire to cut.
Meanwhile Galvin and Luke are up to their eyeballs in sewage water. With only seconds left to live they begin saying their last goodbyes. (Less)
