The death toll in India is rising after a seven-story building partially collapsed. At least 25 are dead and many more injured in the incident that happened yesterday in Mumbai, India's financial capital. Officials say dozens of victims are still trapped in the rubble. Authorities believe the collapse could have resulted from faulty repair work. The building houses offices, shops and residential apartments.
Officials at the world's biggest nuclear power plant in Japan are apologizing after Monday's earthquake there. They say there are at least 50-quake related problems at the plant, which is now shut down. That includes a transformer fire, broken pipes, water leaks and spills of radioactive waste. Officials also suggest that a major fault line may run underneath the power plant itself. Japan's coast guard is launching a study to better map fault lines in the area.
Two separate explosions rocked the country of Pakistan today. More than thirty people are dead. In one incident, a bomb exploded at a bus stop in Southwest Pakistan. Authorities say the attack was aimed at Chinese engineers. In a second incident, police say a suicide bomber drove an explosives-packed car through the gates of a police training center in northwest Pakistan. The Islamic country has been targeted by violence recently since the military launched an assault last week on Islamic militants holed up in a mosque in Islamabad.
New York City is cleaning up after a major underground steam explosion. Mayor Michael Bloomberg was quick to announce the blast wasn't terror-related but likely caused by cold water entering a pressurized pipe laid more than 80 years ago. The crater from yesterday's blast measured 40 feet across. Environmental crews are taking air and soil samples to see if the explosion had released asbestos dust. Most pipes of that era were coated with the carcinogenic flame retardant.
That's all for now. Be sure to check out of new wrap-up from the White House tomorrow on upi.com. Thanks for watching. (Less) Channel: youtube

Description: Paris in flames by thursday off the album full collapse
LYRICS:
Now it's time to wrap our fears in the night
And on the first day I'll dress this city in flames
After all the things (More) Paris in flames by thursday off the album full collapse
LYRICS:
Now it's time to wrap our fears in the night
And on the first day I'll dress this city in flames
After all the things you say
You hate me for being this way
Still you won't let go of old ideals
There is no headline to read at night
When the record skips and you're not holding the needle
We all sing the songs of separation
And we watch our lives bleed out through our hands
That's how it was on the first day
When we saw Paris in Flames
Rain, rain down
I think it's going to rain, rain down [x2]
I think it's going to rain
I think it's going to rain, rain down [x3]
I think it's going to rain
Here in this collapsed lung of a borough
There is no sunlight
The sunlight is manufactured in a windowless room
Distant and incoherent
Businessmen hang themselves
We all sing the songs of separation
And we watch our lives bleed out through our hands
That's how it was on the first day
When we saw Paris in Flames
The lower east side is a jukebox playing the deadman's crescendo
The needle is a vector
An intersection that we all must cross
A dimly lit hallway where shadows of moths decorate the walls
Discard this message
Discard this message
Discard this message
(Burn this city down, down...)
Discard this message
Throw this bottle back in the ocean
Rip this page from the history books
Smash all the street signs
Erase all the maps
Forget my name
Forget my face
Forget my name
Because it's going to rain (it's going to rain)
And it never ends
Rain, rain down
I think it's going to rain, rain down [x2]
I think it's going to rain
I think it's going to rain, rain down [x3]
I think it's going to rain

And we watch our lives bleed out through our hands

You had better go out and buy your self a couple of wheel barrels to haul around all of your money, just like they did in Germany after their currency failed. Although today with debit cards, I guess we will be OK, maybe we dont need the wheel barrels after all.
Just invest in things that will always have value, things that you cant live without, or should I say things that other people cant live without. That way if you end up needing something that you dont have, then you will be able to make a trade for it.
Im glad that Glenn Beck is sounding the alarm bell, but Im afraid that very few are listening, and of the ones who are listening, most will take no action.
Heres an excellent link to charts and graphs that show our money supply:

The Federal Reserve System and public- and private-sector analysts have long monitored the growth of the money supply because of the effects that money supply growth is believed to have on real economic activity and on the price level. Over time, the Fed has tried to achieve its macroeconomic goals of price stability, sustainable economic growth, and high employment in part by influencing the size of the money supply. In the past few decades, however, the relationship between growth in the money supply and the performance of the U.S. economy has become much weaker, and emphasis on the money supply as a guide to monetary policy has waned.
Money Supply Measures
The Federal Reserve publishes weekly and monthly data on two money supply measures M1 and M2. The money supply data, which the Fed reports at 4:30 p.m. every Thursday, appear in some Friday newspapers, and they are available online as well. The Fed publishes measures of large time deposits on a quarterly basis in the Flow of Funds Accounts statistical release.
The money supply measures reflect the different degrees of liquidity—or spendability—that different types of money have. The narrowest measure, M1, is restricted to the most liquid forms of money; it consists of currency in the hands of the public; travelers checks; demand deposits, and other deposits against which checks can be written. M2 includes M1, plus savings accounts, time deposits of under $100,000, and balances in retail money market mutual funds.
The chart below shows the relative sizes of the two monetary aggregates. In April 2008, M1 was approximately $1.4 trillion, more than half of which consisted of currency. While as much as two-thirds of U.S. currency in circulation may be held outside the United States, all currency held by the public is included in the money supply because it can be spent on goods and services in the U.S. economy. M2 was approximately $7.7 trillion and largely consisted of savings deposits.
Historical Perspective
The Federal Reserve began reporting monthly data on the level of currency in circulation, demand deposits, and time deposits in the 1940s, and it introduced the aggregates M1, M2, and M3 in 1971. The original money supply measures totaled bank accounts by type of institution. The original M1, for example, consisted of currency plus demand deposits in commercial banks. Over time, however, new bank laws and financial innovations blurred the distinctions between commercial banks and thrift institutions, and the classification scheme for the money supply measures shifted to be based on liquidity and on a distinction between the accounts of retail and wholesale depositors.
The Full Employment and Balanced Growth Act of 1978, known as the Humphrey-Hawkins Act, required the Fed to set one-year target ranges for money supply growth twice a year and to report the targets to Congress. During the heyday of the monetary aggregates, in the early 1980s, analysts paid a great deal of attention to the Fed's weekly money supply reports, and especially to the reports on M1. If, for example, the Fed released a higher-than-expected M1 figure, the markets surmised that the Fed would soon try to curb money supply growth to bring it back to its target, possibly increasing short-term interest rates in the process.

Description: U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will hold talks on Thursday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in an effort to revive the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians and bolster the (More) U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will hold talks on Thursday with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in an effort to revive the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians and bolster the moderate government of Mr. Abbas. Mr. Abbas's Fatah forces lost control of the Gaza Strip in June, after Islamic militants of Hamas seized power in the territory. Fatah now controls only the West Bank. Since then, Gaza's economy has been virtually shut down because Israel, citing security concerns, has closed the borders to the strip.
Life is hard and getting harder in the Gaza Strip. Some street vendors are protesting that Hamas Islamic militants put them out of business as part of a crackdown on illegal activities in Gaza. Hamas seized power in June. Since then order has prevailed on Gaza's once chaotic streets. But many residents complain that the cost of security is too high.
In addition, Israel closed its borders with Gaza because Israel, like much of the international community, considers Hamas a terrorist organization. Gaza's borders with Israel have been closed to everything except humanitarian assistance.
Since the Hamas takeover, economic life has ground to a halt in much of Gaza. More than 70 percent of Gaza's factories have closed since Hamas took over. Nasser el Helu is one of Gaza's most prominent businessmen. He says soon Gaza's private sector will be gone - and with it, a rare pillar of stability in the volatile strip.
Just a few weeks ago, Hamas fighters and gunmen belonging to the Palestinian faction Fatah, battled it out across Gaza. Now Fatah has retreated to the West Bank.
With Hamas in control of Gaza and the factional fighting over, people there can once again venture out. But few have any money to spend. More than 68,000 people have lost their jobs, and unemployment is reaching record levels. Eighty percent of Gaza's residents now receive emergency food aid from the United Nations.
Ahmed Yousef is a senior Hamas leader in Gaza. He warns there will only be more instability if Gaza's borders are not reopened. He says, for now, Hamas will not recognize Israel or renounce violence which the international community is demanding as a pre-condition for opening relations with the group.
The Palestinian business community is not alone in complaining about Gaza's borders being closed. A number of Israeli businesspeople who import large quantities of agricultural commodities from the Gaza Strip have called on their government to reopen the main cargo crossing point known as Karni. Non-governmental organizations like the Israeli human rights group, Gisha, have also called on Israel to reopen Karni. Sari Bashi, Gisha's executive director, says reopening Karni would be easy.
"Israel has legitimate security interests in protecting its personnel at Karni crossing, but those security interests are being used as a pretext to keep Karni closed. Karni can be opened; people in the private sector have offered to secure the crossings to coordinate re-opening the crossings but they need Israeli cooperation in order to do so," said Bashi. "Israel needs to make a declaration that it intends to open Karni and once it does that there will be plenty of people to cooperate."
But Israeli officials disagree. Mark Regev, spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry, says Israel is making sure that plenty of humanitarian assistance is reaching Gaza, but he says it is unrealistic to think that Israel will reopen the crossings to commercial activity at the present time.
"We would like to have all the crossings up and running. We've got no interest in seeing any economic hardship in Gaza. Unfortunately, one day we woke up in the morning and we didn't see Palestinian security on their side of the crossing," said Regev. "We saw armed Hamas gunmen, a lot of them in ski masks. And the idea that a terrorist group [Hamas] that holds an Israeli soldier hostage, a group that shoots rockets into Israel, that sends suicide bombers into Israel would be in charge of security is something that is totally unworkable. "
Regev says Israel is looking for solutions to the problem, such as getting a third party involved in managing some the crossings, including Karni. But he says that as long as Hamas remains in control of Gaza, Israel will not change its policy of keeping the crossings closed to all but humanitarian traffic. (Less) Channel: youtube

The search begins in the Mississippi River for the victims of a bridge collapse in Minneapolis. At least four people were killed when the Interstate 35 West bridge buckled and gave way last evening. Another 20 people are missing. The 40-year-old steel and concrete span sent dozens of vehicles plunging into the river. Inspection reports from the past two years say the bridge had no structural deficiencies.
Middle East peace talks are likely to take place in November. Aids to U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice made the announcement in Jerusalem today. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert reportedly told Rice in a meeting today that the Palestinian Hamas party must be kept out of the game.
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales says he may have created confusion in his previous testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Gonzales faces potential perjury accusations and sent a letter to Senate leaders yesterday acknowledging this. In the letter, he said he wasn't clear when he described highly classified National Security Agency surveillance activities. Gonzales offered to let the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Senator Patrick Leahy, have a private briefing with him. Leahy has declined, saying Gonzales has until the end of the week to correct and supplement his testimony.
Toy manufacturer Fisher-Price is recalling nearly a million U.S. toys that were made in China because they're reportedly covered in lead paint. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children. The affected toys are Sesame Street characters, Dora the Explorer and other products. Consumers are advised to immediately take the recalled products away from children and contact Fisher-Price.

We had some big and ominous news overnight Firstly in Europe, where the German government has been forced to stump up €1 billion to bailout out a bank hit hard by the US sub-prime crisis. This widens the scope of the global credit crisis and increasing chances of instability in continental Europe. Britain has already had to bail out the Northern Rock bank after its funding sources dried up, sparking a run on the bank. This is the third bailout for Germany's IKB bank, which specialises in lending to small businesses, and the first time the German Federal government has had to inject its own money. None of the big Australian banks that run New Zealand's banking system have had to declare any sub-prime losses and not expected to. The biggest direct exposure in New Zealand so far has been the collapse in the value of Macquarie Fortress Notes. But it could get worse. We had news overnight that the Port Authority of New York tried to sell bonds through Goldman Sachs but eventually had to accept an interest rate of 20%. That's up from 4.3% last week. Elsewhere, Michigan has suspended its student loan programme after turmoil in credit markets shut down its own borrowing programme. The Wall St Journal has reported that about US$10 billion worth of bonds issued by student loan authorities for Montana and Mississippi, Carnegie Hall and Deerfield Academy, an exclusive Massachusetts prep school, failed to find buyers at an auction on Tuesday. This looks very dangerous. When the credit markets shut down for reputable borrowers such as local governments and public universities, then America's economy has a problem. This is causing many to believe that the US Federal Reserve will cut official rates by a further 50 basis points to 2.5% either on or before it meets again on March 18. This is partly because the previous 125 basis points of cuts inside two weeks in late January appear not to be flowing through to consumers and businesses because of the credit market turmoil. Two further rate cuts are expected later in 2008. Ironically, this will make our currency more attractive in the long term, although another period of financial market turmoil is likely to scare off these yield hungry investors in the short term.
