Apparently, the new idea is to change the acronym to stand for "Global Initiative Joint Operating Entity" and make it a co-ed, multi-national force. The cartoon featured lasers, no fatalities, and the enemy was very laughable and incapable. The comicbook featured a very detailed back story and elevation of conflict between the two forces. My concern is that the enemy of the "Joe's" will not be accurate to the level of violence present. If the enemy are push-overs, where is the struggle? Where is the tension and enjoyment of watching the program? An enemy that is equal to the hero will make for a more interesting, and entertaining, story. To overcome the bad guys, the good guys will have to sacrifice a lot, or risk everything, to win. My real big concern is how they will treat the deaths of service members by the enemy. If the enemy is appalling easy, why did the "good guys" die so easily? It is insulting to service members. Osama Bin Laden is effective, and alive, because he is a smart foe. Also, who will the enemy be? Muslims and Middle Eastern bad guys will upset a lot of audiences. And to be realistic, include swearing, alcohol consumption, sex, and suffering death and loss. Good examples this film could follow: "The Peacemaker" with George Clooney and Nicole Kidman. Or CBS's "The Unit." I do not care how the movie goes, which path it follows, but I think it should be taken seriously, not become another "Street Fighter" film, Jean Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia literally in costumes. If Cobra is still used as the enemy, you could remove Muslim terrorist from the lexicon of terminology and make it a bit more acceptable to a broad audience. You could still have elements of suicide bombers, oil, and internal violence. You could have Cobra be a gun supplier to a civil war ravaged country. (Although this can be used as an example of what is going on in Chechnya.) Lastly, do not make your heroes too powerful, or your guys die too easily, stupidly. I think another way they could do it is go back to the original concept, and make a World War II action flick. "Band of Brothers," "Saving Private Ryan," "Thin Red Line," "Flags of Our Fathers," "Letters from Iwo Jima," and other films show there is an audience. And the veterans are dying off, so any way the film is taken will not be met with too much controversy. (Less)
