The women are video-taped and left naked for up to six hours. Near the beginning of the video you can see the black male officer helping to strip Hope's panties off of her while another male officer holds her down. The woman's bra and panties are removed along with all her clothing, exposing her bare naked breasts, ass, and vagina in front of the male officers. She is eventually completely stripped and left naked and handcuffed on the floor. All this happened merely because 911 was called for help on Hope's behalf when she was hurt in a fight. Hope accidentally showed her dead sister's ID to police, she keeps it with her in remembrance of her sister. So far, five women have come forward with similar strip search experiences at this Ohio jail, see link near bottom. When the officer arrived, Ms. Steffey accidentally handed over her deceased sister´s license, which she kept for sentimental reasons. She immediately noticed the mistake and gave the officer her own identification and asked for her sister´s to be returned. The officer refused to return her sister´s license. The officer ran a check on Ms. Steffey´s license and found no infractions, but continued to treat her as though she were the perpetrator of the crime, instead of the victim. Ms. Steffey states she begged for the return of her sister´s license until Officer Gurlea lost his patience and shouted, "shut up about your dead sister." When Ms. Steffey pointed at the officer´s pocket, which held her sister´s id, and said, "she was here, she was someone", Officer Gurlea threw her face down on the hood of his patrol car, chipping one of her teeth. And according to documents filed by Hope and Greg Steffey with the United States District Court in Cleveland, Officer Gurlea then threw Steffey to the ground. Although Ms. Steffey´s cousin repeatedly reminded the officer that Steffey was the victim and had been knocked unconscious in the previous assault, Officer Gurlea handcuffed Steffey and put her into the back of his patrol car, refusing her medical care. Hope Steffey was then taken to the county jail and forcibly strip-searched by 6 to 7 male and female deputies, despite Stark County´s own policy which states that a strip search must be conducted by a same sex officer. She was left in a cell for 6 hours with no clothing or even a blanket and eventually wrapped herself in toilet tissue for warmth and modesty. She was not allowed a phone call or medical attention and when she was later taken to booking, she was given only a small weighted vest to cover her nudity. She was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Yep, the head cheerleader can be striped searched at school by the principal in some jurisdicitons, as long as it's not by a teacher. Corporal punishment is a whole other beast though. So, the administrators can tell them to take off their clothes, then have them put them back on for a good spanking...A strip search differs from a manual-cavity-search cuz only a medical professional at a correctional facility can do this, and they must have permission from a judge. But in some circumstances permission could be granted simply because you refused the visual search. BTW, a security guard at the local Walmart or Target cannot strip search you. If you empty your pockets, it's your choice. They can detain you until the police arrive, or, only if they are an actual police officer, they can perform a pat down. Speaking of pat downs, NO they cannot legally run their hands or fingers over your genitals, bottom, or breasts. No they cannot legally run their fingers in the inside lining of your undergaments, nor can they lift your bottom with thier finger legally. The cops who do this are perverts getting their grope on, and you should fall to the ground screaming and crying if they do this, and tell everyone why you are doing this. Strip searches are to be in a private room, affording the most privacy possible. But how often do you think that this is done, and how often do you think more than one guard is present? And how often do you think that this is used as punishment in the form of public humiliation, or daily harassment by guards and other officials? Really, the biggest question is, if I'm hiding a Vlastic pickle up there, how is any amount of bending and coughing, or showering in full view of a guard gonna cause that pickle to come whirling out unless I let it? Stop laughing, this is serious. The humiliation starts well before anyone is convicted of the crime btw, so if you are ever arrested for anything, prepare to get bukked naked, with your former high school bully now ordering you to take off your drawers while other guards and prisoners walk by. Juveniles are not spared the humiliation either. At a time when most are especially sensitive about their bodies, they are made to undress in front of strangers and shower in full view of their peers. Is there any question that this is one of the factors contributing to the fact thst most are more emotionally numb when they leave a correctional facility, even after just a 1 hour stay for a simple arrest for speeding? We go from controlling who sees us naked our entire lives to suddenly being told to bend over and spread em. The emotional trauma and scarring from this is inescapably devastating. The electronic technology that would make these so-called procedures unnecessary have existed forever, with backscatter x-rays already in use at some facilies. Why are we still making people take off their clothes? Certainly it's not because somebody gets off on forcing nervous teenagers and adults to undress 1 item at a time?
