Investigators said a BB gun was used in all five shootings, which occurred in a span of two hours.
Three people were injured -- two men and a woman in her 70s.
The assaults started in the heart of Kansas City and then spread to the northeast side.
The first shooting happened at about 6 a.m. at Swope Parkway and Prospect. Shots were fired just as an ATA bus was pulling up to the stop. Witnesses told police a man in a white car fired the gun and sped off.
A woman in her 70s who was waiting at a bus stop was shot in the neck. Her injuries were described as minor.
"Well, the only thing I can say is they're crazy," said Clarence Sears, who lives in the same retirement community as the injured woman.
Police said the next shooting happened five minutes later at 35th Street and Prospect Avenue, where a 50-year-old man was shot in the hand as he waited at a bus stop.
A third drive-by shooting was reported just after 7 a.m. at Independence and Woodland avenues.
Police said a 40-year-old man at a bus stop was shot. He ran up the street to a pay phone at Garfield Avenue to call for help. His injuries were also described as minor.
Two more shootings were reported at Eighth Street and Lydia Avenue, and 12th Street and The Paseo. No one was hurt in the last two shootings.
Police said they have only a very vague description of the shooters. They were described as three black men, possibly teenagers. Police believe they are in a white, four-door 2000 Chevrolet Malibu.
"The thing we want everybody to know right now is just for people to be aware of their surroundings, and if they see the vehicle to give us a call," Capt. Mark Terman said.
"I hope they catch them, that's all I can say. I hope they catch them before they hurt somebody else," Sears said.

A collage of different types of performances from different time periods by Danny, (note the wrist rap in some of the footage, as Danny currently deals with a wrist ailment which has cut down the frequency of his being able to set up and perform music, losing would-be outings. Includes excerpts of adaptations and impromptu renderings of Linus Lucy; Birthday Boogie; a fab 4 tune intro-right-to-spoof for then-partner B.B. (Bev); In Crowd; Little Help From Friends (with other trio members Bev & Gary);"Western Theme Rap; 3 Dog N.tune" and a News Clip from Doug Shimmel (working in Philedelphia last I knew), anchored by Phil Witt and Harris Faulkner (the attractive gal now on nationally syndicated Fox cable t.v. News)about one of the various: City and Fascist Merchant-imposed efforts, throughout the years, to hamper & shut down popular street entertaining; a less-loud-than-bars, cultural asset to the community. In most of the incidents of selective repression, bar owners have, not surprisingly, escaped most of the measures, which have been dressed up to the public as noise or crowd "control" measures. Incredibly the city and it's channel 5 media cohorts continued this attempt in spite of the known fact that crime, such as shootings, in these districts - invariably erupted from inside those same bars, of which owners kept public officials at their beck & call. Some of the main street entertainers, like Danny, also play other gigs, but shouldn't be stripped of rights to this venue. It is argued by many that Danny changed the face of street entertainment, adding class to it. After the onset of his tenure in the area, public image of streeet players has made a dramatic upturn. The trade benefitted from his influence. He gradually developed the act in to a more and more sophisticated viable part of the overall entertainment for the town, and thus, the performing income to be made, locally. It is a reflection on his character that he was able to do all of this with ammicability regarding the rest of the community, co-existing with it in a unique way, for years before unrelated factors and forces began to bring about the efforts of special interest-catering oppression. It is worthy of noting that during that so-called grace period - discussed in this channel 4 news story, for the then- impending Cleaver-endorsed, rules in the Westport part of town; the city police (some working for the bar owners) became more and more antsy and disrespectful. So, two weeks into that "grace," a dispute arose when a rogue security cop accusing Danny of parking in the wrong place. Doing so when Danny returned to the area to a patient audience of about 50 people who'd waited as he fetched gas for his generator. This rent-a-cop, whose only actual duties were to guard property in the district, bolted into the middle of Danny's set-up as Danny had just resumed playing to the crowd, and slapped a hand cuff on him. Knowing the security guard (one already notorious for repressive random acts to associates of Danny & bucking for political points with bar owners who were jealous of the popularity of Danny's street act) was attmepting to exceed his jurisdication, Danny wouldn't allow the guard to put the other cuff on, siting his lack of authority. When some K.C.P.D. officers-also working for bar owners, off duty,in uniform-arrived, the matter was discussed and was almost resolved, however, when Danny merely pointed out that since the security guard had tipped over Danny's guitar in the shuffle, that guard was responsible if the spill had damaged it - upon hearing this, the K.C.P.D. officer in charge suddenly flew into a rage and - before the entire crowd who'd viewed Danny's show, with assistance from the other officers and the guard, proceeded to handcuff Danny, so he couldn't break his fall, then drove him head-first into the sidewalk, before placing him in jail - injured head & all. In some cities, talent like Danny's would have been encouraged to where, by now, it would have most likely ballooned out to the point that Danny would most likely have been able to re-invest it in the community, in the form of coffee houses or folk music museums or music&entertainment instruction places or whatever. Do the words greedy,self-serving, crooked, non-representative-of- the-public-it-should-serve, proud-to-have- hick-mentality-while-trying-to-pass-themselves-off-as-keepers-of-reputed-long-gone-music-historicity; or Microcosm (town) overrun by unprogressive; dangerously brutal, veritably communistic regime; denying of free market-tested self-starters to ensure it keeps in place its acquired system of hooked-on-T.I.F.F. hand outs, and affirmative action-related initiatives-ONLY mentality - poor excuse for a community; come to mind? 2008-02-12 06:16:44 Description: A video in memory of the pets who lost their lives in the St. Bernard Pet Massacre during the Katrina disaster.
In the mist of the turmoil of catastrophic devastation and lost of life, Katrina (More) A video in memory of the pets who lost their lives in the St. Bernard Pet Massacre during the Katrina disaster.
In the mist of the turmoil of catastrophic devastation and lost of life, Katrina left survivors, both human and animal, who struggled to survive the winds, the flooding, and abandonment in southeast Louisiana. Long after the humans were rescued, thousands of animals roamed the streets in search of food and family, while thousands of others, secured in homes and other buildings, faced dehydration and starvation as their food sources were depleted. While every animal rescued was worth every effort, every cost, thousands of animals died as time ran out.
While the rescues took place, & while rescuers opened feeding stations for those they were unable to immediately rescue, there were others, the sick gun toting "officers of the law," who, during a time of complete chaos, joyfully took matters into their own hands, using pets as target practice, shooting pets as a game, torturing pets to fulfill sadistic pleasures -- remember these are the sick beings paid to protect society.
Their lame excuses: They claim they had to shoot the dogs on the street for their own safety--dogs greeted these deputies, ecstatic to see a human, tails wagging: "maybe my family," "maybe these humans brought food." They claim it was more humane to kill the dogs than let them starve. Animal rescuers were everywhere, while thousands of pounds of pet food poured into the area. A simple alert would have brought in truckloads of food for these animals. Understand too, that these dogs were far from starving to death. (Remember, the last live pet, who is still living, was rescued from a house, with NO FOOD AT ALL approx. 6 weeks after the storm.) These "mercy" killings were not instant death for the helpless pets, as video footage depicts the slow death of one dog, struggling to stand, while deputies watch. We'll never know all of the atrocities afflicted upon animals during this period.
But then, the most horrific animal torture of all, the St. Bernard school shootings, where 33 pets (dogs, cats and a parrot) were tortured beyond the comprehension of most people. The aftermath of the horrendous sight of animal sacrificing brought even the strongest person to his knees. The ability of humans to take pleasure in inflicting such pain, agony, & fear upon other living beings, upon completely innocent and defenseless animals, upon obvious loving pets--it is frightening. The suffering these helpless animals endured is unimaginable. In addition, these brutal acts are relative to the insanity demonstrated by serial killers before they begin taking human victims.
With evidence secure, with video footage, with photos and witnesses (including camera crews and military,) in addition to the intense brutality of the crime, I never would have dreamed that this case would be thrown out. Would the evidence have been considered "insufficient" had the victims been human? What good are animal protection laws with corrupt politics, personal opinions and legal issues influenced because the accused is "my brother-in-law's sister's cousin."
Therefore, once again, animal cruelty receives a slap on the wrist (or perhaps that was a "pat on the back") as animal torturers applaud the great judicial system that allows them to continue their sadistic pleasures. (Less)

"The proliferation of gangs in the United States has reached epidemic proportions," says Sergeant Harold M. Rochon, 20-year veteran of the Detroit Police Department and author of Terrorists and Designer Jeans." In this 2-hour training telecast, Rochon describes the history of gangs, tells how to identify and classify members of gangs, explains gang ideology and recruiting, discusses the drug nexus within gangs, and much more. The term street gang is the term preferred by key local law enforcement agencies because it includes juveniles and adults, and designates the location of gangs and most of its criminal behavior. A street gang is group of people that form an allegiance based on various social needs and engage in acts injurious to public health and safety. Members of street gangs engage in (or have engaged in) gang-focused criminal activity either individually or collectively, they create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation within the community. Street gangs have been documented in cities in the United States throughout most of the country's history, but crime surveys and statistics suggest that gangs are posing a more serious crime problem than in the past. In some cities, such as Chicago, Illinois, and Los Angeles, California, gangs are credited with an alarming share of violent crime, especially homicides. And while reports conflict about the extent to which gangs play an organized role in drug trafficking, the vast majority of gang cases investigated by the FBI revealed that drug trafficking was the primary criminal enterprise that supported the gang, however was not necessarily the sole purpose for the gang's existence. Gangs have been involved with the lower levels of the drug trade for many years, but their participation skyrocketed with the arrival of "crack" cocaine. Almost overnight, a major industry was born, with outlets in every neighborhood, tens of thousands of potential new customers and thousands of sales jobs available. In slightly over a decade, street gangs have become highly involved in drug trafficking at all levels. Intelligence developed through investigations has revealed extensive interaction among individuals belonging to gangs across the Nation. This interaction does not take the conceptual form of traditional organized crime. It is more a loose network of contacts and associations that come together as needed to support individual business ventures. There are however, some street gangs that possess structured organization in their drug operations. In cities such as Chicago and New Haven, the Black Gangster Disciple Nation, Vice Lords, and Latin Kings have a more recognized organizational structure, funneling profits upward through the organization. Street gang-related violence and drug activity, however, are not necessarily synonymous. While street gangs may specialize in entrepreneurial activities like drug dealing, their gang-related lethal violence is more likely to grow out of turf conflicts than from the entrepreneurial activity. Drug markets indirectly influence violence by bringing rival gangs members into proximity with one another, as most street gang violence involves intergang conflicts. By far the most visible and frightening of gang crimes is murder. Contrary to popular belief, most murders committed by gang members are not random shootings nor are they direct disputes over drugs or some other crime. While those types of gang homicides do occur, most are the product of old-fashioned fights over turf, status and revenge. Drive-by shootings and other confrontations of this kind typically involve small sets of gang members acting more or less on their own, not large groups representing an entire gang. But each attack creates a chain reaction of complicity, vengeance and commitment. Sponsored by FLETC/MCTFT. Public domain video. (Less)

(Less)

Charges Dropped in Katrina Dog Killings
In the days following Hurricane Katrina, former Sheriff's Deputy Michael Minton and Sergeant Clifford (Chip) Englande were video taped by David Leeson, a Pulitzer Prize winning photographer for The Dallas Morning News. Patrolling the hurricane devastated region of St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, one sequence in the video shows dogs being shot, another shows the men driving away, leaving a mortally wounded black Labrador retriever on the street.

In a subsequent interview recorded by Leeson, Minton acknowledged shooting the dogs, citing safety and humanitarian concerns.
Indictments were obtained by Charles Foti in November 2006 and both men were indicted on charges of Aggravated Animal Cruelty. A State Grand Jury concluded that they fatally shot numerous dogs that had been separated from their owners and were roaming the streets after Katrina swamped the Parish.
State Drops Dog Death Case
Citing insufficient evidence, the new Attorney General James Caldwell, Foti's replacement, has dropped the animal cruelty charges against Minton and Englande.
Filed Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008 in 34th Judicial District Court in Chalmette, Louisiana
Despite the existence of probable cause for the arrest and sufficient evidence for a grand jury indictment, considering all the facts and circumstances in this matter there is insufficient evidence to prove the guilt of the defendants beyond a reasonable doubt.
Here was the loophole the AG found:
The video never showed the shooters and the dogs in the same shot.
Shortly after the street shootings had taken place more than 33 dogs were found massacred in three separate schools within the same Parish. Their owners had sought shelter in these buildings during the days following Katrina. Upon rescue they were forced to leave their pets behind. They were told that their pets would soon be rescued and taken to safety. That would not be the case.
The owners of some of the dogs you are about to view have filed a separate suit in federal court in New Orleans against the St. Bernard Parish Government, former Parish President Henry "Junior" Rodriguez, the Parish Council, Sheriff Jack Stephens and numerous deputies. This lawsuit is still pending.
Upon learning of the dismissed Animal Cruelty charges against Minton and Englande, a Memorial Service took place on Wednesday, January 30th, 2008 at PGT Beauregard Middle School to honor and remember those lives lost.
