The parallels between The Garbage Man and real life killer Wallace were both shocking and provocative. While Fisher wrote and filmed Tom and his cinematic crimes, Wallace acted out the fiction in the flesh. Much like the fictional character of Tom, women were taken with Wallace's smile, solicitious attitude and welcomed him into their homes.
