Though he is known worldwide, he did not receive a lot attention in the graffiti world until the 1990s. He has been painting since 1981, and has gained international credit for his work. He and his crew "Kings Destroy" (formerly "Kids Destroy," or simply KD) are the main focus of the influential graffiti movie "Kings Destroy". Cope2 has been one of the main targets of the New York City Vandal Squad and has been arrested for vandalism, theft and drug charges. The arrest followed his recent success in releasing a 272 page book of his work titled "Cope 2: True Legend" Cope2 started writing graffiti around 1980, his cousin Chico 80 introduced Cope into writing and it ran in the family. He made his own crew called Kids Destroy and eventually it changed to Kings Destroy after he was the king of the 4 line. Some of Cope2's initial commercial artwork has been sold on the Christie's auction block for $1,000(USD) per painting. Early work includes cover art for a Boogie Down Productions album titled "Sex and Violence." More recently Cope2 has appeared in Marc Ecko's 2006 video game, Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure. As one of the "graffiti legends", your character takes a photograph of Cope2's work, shortly before Cope2 himself arrives and teaches your character how to write throwups on trains. Before the release of the game, Cope2 called a local Councilman, Peter Vallone Jr., to complain about the shutting down of a publicity event for the title. The event, coordinated by Mark Ecko, called for the spray painting of vintage train cars during a block party celebrating Graffiti and Hiphop culture. Vallone is noted as saying he was responsible for having the permit pulled for the event. Vallone is quoted as calling Cope2 a "punk." It is said this confrontation sparked the interest of Time Magazine in the artist. The event permit was later reissued as judge Jed S. Rakoff of the Federal District Court in Manhattan over turned the previous ruling on grounds of freedom of speech. Time Magazine commissioned Cope2, for $20,000(USD), to paint a billboard ad in the SoHo district of Manhattan, New York on Houston and Wooster. The ad depicts the magazines cover with graffiti tags scrawled over it, the text reads "Post-Modernism? Neo-Expressionism? Just Vandalism? Time. Know why" Cope2 has designed a pair of sneakers for Converse under the "Chuck Taylor All-Stars" line his throw up recently appeared on a wall in the movie "Shrek The Third". Cope2 is one of the most known users of WILDSTYLE and is also known for his bubble letters. During this time graffiti underwent a change in styles and popularity. The city produced one of the first graffiti artists to gain media attention in New York, TAKI 183. TAKI 183 was a youth from Washington Heights, Manhattan who worked as a foot messenger. His tag is a mixture of his name Demetrius (Demetraki), TAKI, and his street number, 183rd. Being a foot messenger, he was constantly on the subway and began to put up his tags along his travels. This spawned a 1971 article in the New York Times titled "'Taki 183' Spawns Pen Pals". Julio 204 is also credited as the first writer, but didn't get the fame that Taki received. TAKI 183 was the first artist to be recognised outside of the graffiti subculture, but wasn't the first artist. Other notable names from that time are: Stay High 149, Hondo 1, Phase 2, Stitch 1, SEEN,Bosik 1, Bolst 1, Kinks 2, Septik 1, Joe 182, Junior 161 and Cay 161. Barbara 62 and Eva 62 were also important early graffiti artists in New York, and are the first known females to write graffiti. Also taking place during this era was the movement from outside on the city streets to the subways. Graffiti also saw its first seeds of competition around this time. The goal of most artists at this point was called "getting up" and involved having as many tags and bombs in as many places as possible. Artists began to break into subway yards in order to hit as many trains as they could with a lower risk, often creating larger elaborate pieces of art along the subway car sides. But how can I play a DVD, Voice synthesize a page, read email, run a web server with database server, do web programming, and watch youtube all at the same time on this "dweeby" machine,and I can't play a DVD on my Toshiba Satelite A135-S2276 with Vista on it in 512 Megs, with major resource killed, with the Toshiba tools killed, with graphics extras turned off (I tried, believe me I tried).. How is it possible Vista could be such a resource hog if Windows 2000 (an obsolete OS as far as Microsoft is concerned) can do all the same things with less.. This is blatant proof of how Microsoft intentionally makes Windows resource intensive to encourage people to buy more hardware.. Now you know why Intel and all the vendors are in bed with Microsoft and not with Linux.. Linux is efficient, Windows is not.. See my demos of Half Life 2 running on a OS that takes no more than 127 megs for itself, and still can manage multiple processors as well as offer the Compiz eye-candy that compares to Windows Vista Aero.. You really have to contemplate this as it's an important thing to ponder.. Furthermore, your Playstation 3 runs on a 800Mhz (I've heard) PowerPC chip.. The XBOX runs on 3 1GHz processors.. And still we shell out for hardware on each new release of Windows, for what? I have no idea.. And they won't tell you either.. For all we know, a lot of it could be deliberate inefficiencies.. Note, the only perceivable difference between NT4 and Windows 2000 is the support for USB ports, something Windows 98 had.. Windows XP added some bells and whistles to Windows 2000.. SP2 just covers some security problems with the base install of XP which had security holes like MS Messenger running on it (if you leave an unpatched copy of XP, pre-SP1 on the Internet, it will get hacked and turned into a botnet in no time at all, because hackers perform port scans on every billion or so possible addresses given by the 4 byte combinations of IP addresses. A computer that port scans 4 billion computers with a likelihood of hitting a insecure Windows machine, for which the architecture is well understood and turning it into a bot-net, is fairly great.. I'm sure some of the people encouraging the jump to Vista are possibly hackers that know how to hack Vista already.. And want more resources to throw at their clientelle. Okay that is FUD, but relevant.. What is to be gained by using a linux system, particularly if its very hard to hack without insecure ports as come with Windows? Anyhow, Windows 2000 is what I will continue to use on this machine until this laptop kicks the bucket, but I'm using Ubuntu too, so eventually I won't be using any Windows OS's... Open-source and, thanks to "Gears" integration, primed to work with Google's cloud-computing suite, Chrome has the Web buzzing. Yes, a browser, which many people—incorrectly by the way—consider a substitute operating system is definitely a better move than the once-rumored "Google OS." However, it's not worth getting crazy about. Already pundits are predicting the downfall of IE and even Firefox. Yes, I too like the sound of this browser. The detachable tabs sound sweet. The walled garden (or "sandbox") processes that shut down discretely and that prevent accidentally sharing damaging code sounds smart. Yet, for today at least, this is still vaporware with zero users. Also, there seems to be the assumption that just because Google steps into the space it can own it. Must I remind you all of Google Talk? Does anyone use that AOL Instant Messenger competitor? Google obviously imagines that a popular browser product will float its chat, mail, cloud computing, and other offerings. Call me a skeptic. Overall, Chrome doesn't sound like it'll break any new ground. The anti-phishing technology is important, but our testing shows that Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox are already pretty good front-line defenders for phishing attacks. The customizability of tabs, allowing site and app developers to hide and show certain features sounds like a good idea, too, until you consider how average users will respond to the inconsistencies. Remember how users squawked when Microsoft moved the Home, Refresh, and Stop buttons on IE 7? Innovation (or the lack thereof) aside, this is clearly a smart move for Google. The synergy among all its services is obvious. But please, folks, let's not throw a parade because Google is promising an open-source approach. We do, in Firefox, have a very, very good open-source browser today. Here's how I see this all playing out. Google releases Google Chrome beta tomorrow in 100 countries, and people like it, but they like Firefox 3, which they've been using most of the year, more. The initial rush to get the browser should make it incredibly difficult for many people to actually try out Chrome, but even after the hoopla has had time to settle down, it'll be Firefox's market share that grows, not Chrome's. Google Chrome does gain instant popularity and notoriety among the Web cognoscenti, but average users are still with the IE 7 that came with their Vista desktops or the Firefox browser their somewhat techier friends downloaded for them. Firefox's market share reaches 30 percent by May 2009. Meanwhile IE 8 Beta 2 (in my experience, a buggier beta than the developer edition) goes full release later this year, but does not inspire. The Firefox "Awesome bar" still beats IE's updated address bar, and Google's Omnibox address bar's promise of more fluid response is no head-turner. By May 2009 Google Chrome has a whopping 1 percent of the market. By mid 2010 Firefox has 50 percent of the market, IE 45 percent, and Google Chrome and Opera are fighting over the scraps. Is Google Chrome big news? Sure. Any time the world's leading search engine company exhales or develops a hangnail, it's news. A full-blown-product in a key, albeit free, category is important.
