The film is set during WW2 and several characters, all social misfits, con-men, criminals and 2 female spies have their eyes on a train load of Japanese gold. This team of frauds have personal and also patriotic motives. The director was inspired by the search for lost gold in Kanchanaburi which is the location of Bridge over the River Kwai or "Death Railroad" built by the Imperial Army using allied POWS. Six suspected extremists were killed and 13 arrested Wednesday in gun battles with special police officers in and around the mountain village of Brodec near Macedonia's border with Kosovo, according to police. The volatile area was the center of an 2001 uprising by ethnic Albanian rebels. Police spokesman Ivo Kotevski said Friday the government would recommend that charges of terrorism and activities against the state be filed against the suspects — all men — and four accomplices who evaded arrest. Authorities said weapons, seized after the gun battle, were sufficient to equip a battalion of 650 soldiers. They included laser-guided anti-aircraft missiles, artillery pieces, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, sniper rifles, assault rifles, dynamite, hand grenades, mortars and thousands of bullets, police said. The weapons were found Wednesday and Thursday in houses in Brodec, and in buried caches outside the village. "This is the largest amount of weaponry ever seized (in Macedonia), with huge destructive power," Interior Minister Gordana Jankuloska said Friday. Macedonian police launched the operation to capture Lirim Jakupi, an ethnic Albanian former rebel who escaped from prison in Kosovo two months ago. But Jakupi evaded arrest. Police described the gunmen with him as members of a "criminal gang" but on Friday suggested their motives may have been political. Nevertheless, our film was shown in Nanking in December of 2007, the 70th anniversary of the Rape of Nanking. Unlike the Leonsis film which failed in Nanking, the showing of our film was a tremendous success and the theater was packed and people stood and lined the walls. A second showing in Wuhan China was even more successful. Whereas, in China, the Leonsis film was shown largely to empty seats, over 1,800 people showed up to watch our film in Wuhan and 300 had to be turned away.

Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson, who served as the chief American prosecutor of Nazi leaders at the Nuremburg war crimes trials, said, "when a [prosecutor] acts from malice or other base motives, he is one of the worst" forces in our society. A prosecutor's duty is that justice be done, not to win a "tough case" and merely convict.

I figured them (the starting) out while I was flipping my hair back glamorously. That's what I have to do when I forget to bring something to hold my bangs back... i.e. sunglasses on the old head. I am always trying to bring more "form" and "structure" to my improvisations in terms of repeated melodies, key areas, figurations and motives and after this experiment I think that video taping and watching the replay carefully is great practice. In this case the general form is A - B - C - A' - coda. C was basically a section that evolved out of B until it was something very different, so there is no clear transition (as opposed to the difference between "A" and "B", which is fairly well-defined) Although this was not my finest or favorite improvisation, I feel like I did a decent job of applying theoretical knowledge on the fly (such as a reference to the circle of 5ths midway through), and there are definitely some cool moments along the way. I'd say the part I'm least satisfied with is the moment I bring back the arpeggio figure ("Theme A") from the beginning. It was pretty much unplanned, unprepared, and less-than-beautiful. This is why the A' section is shorter than A; I was anxious to be done with a theme that I hadn't rescucitated very well, but having brought it back, I couldn't just drop it without developing it a little more. The coda(last 45 seconds or so) is my favorite part! Shoddy camera + shoddy compression = absolutely no match between sound and video! Enjoy! On reflection I know exactly what I should have done. The scale that the left hand has in octaves, near the beginning, I should have brought that back in A'. If I had started on the same note, but ended on a different chord (I remember ending on an Eb major the first time) then it would have been a more dramatic and unified piece... What motivated the 9/11 hijackers to attack the US?
US foreign policy bias for Israel in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and US government support for other oppressive regimes in the Middle East.
The 9-11 Commission held its twelfth and final public hearing June 16-17, 2004, in Washington, DC. On June 16 the Commission heard from several of the federal government's top law enforcement and intelligence experts on al Qaeda and the 9-11 plot. It was at this hearing that the question "What motivated them to do it?" was finally asked. Lee Hamilton, vice chair of the 9/11 Commission said, "I'm interested in the question of motivation of these hijackers, and my question is really directed to the agents. ... what have you found out about why these men did what they did? What motivated them to do it?" The agents looked at each other, apparently not eager to be the one to have to say it. FBI Special Agent Fitzgerald stepped up to the plate and laid out the facts, "I believe they feel a sense of outrage against the United States. They identify with the Palestinian problem, they identify with people who oppose repressive regimes and I believe they tend to focus their anger on the United States." But this testimony was kept out of the 9/11 Commission Report and no recommendation was given to address the main motive for the 9/11 attacks.
After the report was issued, the ten commissioners formed the "9-11 Public Discourse Project." At the August 2, 2005 session on foreign policy, Lee Hamilton quickly tries to silence someone who asks why US support for Israel isn't being addressed. The questioner started to ask, "Mr. Hamilton? I had a quick question for you sir. I had spoken with you on C-SPAN about a month ago ..." Immediately Hamilton interrupts him, "I think we'd uh ..." The questioner persisted, "why aren't we addressing the gorilla in the room? The gorilla in the room is US support for Israel." He corrects Hamilton's claim that the Israeli-Palestinian dispute wasn't addressed in the 9/11 Commission Report by referring to page 147 of the report which says, "By his own account, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed's animus toward the United States stemmed not from his experiences there as a student, but rather from his violent disagreement with U.S. foreign policy favoring Israel."
The questioner keeps getting interrupted by Hamilton as he pleads, "Why aren't we addressing that sir?" Hamilton didn't answer and dismisses the questioner, "Alright sir. Alright, this is a conversation you and I ought to have. Let's not take up the time of our resource people. May we go to the next question please?"
"This was sensitive ground," Hamilton and Kean say in their new book, "Without Precedent: The Inside Story of the 9/11 Commission," and some commissioners worried "listed U.S. support of Israel as a root cause of al Qaeda's opposition to the United States indicated that the United States should reassess that policy." There is a reason politicians don't want US support of Israel listed as a root cause of al Qaeda's terrorism. There is a reason politicians don't want the American people to "reassess that policy." If the public were to take a good look at the facts, if they researched what the policies actually do to people in the Middle East, they would be horrified. Politicians lie to us about "hatred of our freedoms" because they care more about serving special interests than about keeping us safe.The Commissioners were more interested in playing politics than in fulfilling the 9/11 Commission's mandate to "to provide recommendations designed to guard against future attacks." These politicians betrayed the American people. Dishonesty about the 9/11 motives robs us of the freedom to decide for ourselves if we want to put our lives at risk over specific foreign policies.
