Гоа тренс (Goa Trance) - настао почетком 1990-их у Гоа-и као мешавине тренса и класичне индијске музике. je podvrsta elektronske plesne glazbe nastao na prijelazu iz 1980ih u 1990ih.
Glazba je karakterizirana tempom od 130 bpm do 160 bpm, koristi ponavljajuće melodične sintisajzerske dionice, nagle promjene glasnoće ili prekide. Ponekad koriste i vokale ali tekstovi su u većini slučajeve jednostavni ili se sastoje od ponavljajuće fraze. Trance je nastao kao kombinacija techno i house glazbe. Kako se trance glazba često pušta u noćnim klubovima može se smatrati i kao forma klubske glazbe.
Trance je nastao u njemačkim klubovima ranih 90tih godina, a upravo jedan njemački grad - Frankfurt, se često naziva kao mjesto gdje je ta cijela priča i započela. Rani pioniri ovog žanra uključuju izvođače kao što su DJ Dag, Oliver Lieb i Sven Vath. Rani trance je dijelio mnoge sličnosti sa technom, u smislu tempa i ritmičke strukture. No, trance je sadržavao i melodičnu strukturu koja je izvorno pripadala tadašnjem house žanru. Ranu fazu trance-a možemo okarakteriziriati kao glazbu sa „hipnotizirajućim efektom", kvalitetnom melodijom te repetirajućom ritmičkom strukurom.
U isto vrijeme, dakle ranih 90tih godina, glazbena revolucija se odvijala u Goi (Indija) gdje će ubrzo nastati „Goa trance". Ubrzo nakon, uslijediti će i profilacija umjetnika kao što su Gil, Eat Static, Doof te Man With No Name.
Sredinom 90tih godina pojavljuje se progressive trance te postaje jedan od dominantnijih oblika plesne glazbe. Taj pravac se više oslanjao na bas te glavnu melodiju, odbacujući pritom ponavljajuću te hipnotizirajuću strukturu trance žanra. Trance je bio oštriji od housea, melodičniji od techna te umirujući od drum'n'bassa stoga ne čudi što je u trenu postao vrlo popularan. Neki od DJ-a koji su sudjelovali u stvaranju ovog žanra ga napuštaju sredinom i krajem 90tih godina te prelaze na progresivniji zvuk (Sasha, John Digweed).

La Trance est un genre de musique électronique dont l'origine remonte aux sources de la Techno et de la House. Elle se caractérise par une recherche systématique de lignes mélodiques répétitives et planantes.
L'esprit de cette musique vient du fait que la musique et la danse peuvent altérer la perception sensorielle de l'auditeur et le transporter dans un état d'extase hypnotique et méditative, la transe (sens premier de trance en anglais).
L'origine du mot trance reste ambiguë et des suggestions font état que le terme peut dériver de l'album Trancefer de Klaus Schulze ou encore du projet Dance 2 Trance.
Le titre The Age of Love, sorti en 1990, est généralement considéré comme le premier morceau de trance et a servi de base pour la scène trance allemande des années 1990. Francfort-sur-le-Main (Allemagne) est souvent cité comme le lieu de naissance de la trance. Comme témoins du Frankfurter Trance Sound, on trouve notamment Sven Väth ou encore DJ Dag qui collabore avec Jam El Mar sur Dance 2 Trance.
A Francfort, le Frankfurter Trance Sound se trouve au Dorian Gray, un club de renom. Avec le compositeur Torsten Stenzel, elle trouve une voie vers la commercialisation. Mais la trance n'est pas exclusive à une ville. À la même époque, un autre mouvement de trance se développe à Berlin autour d'artistes tels que Paul van Dyk.
Après quelques années de gestation en Allemagne, la trance évoluera en Grande-Bretagne, en Belgique, aux Pays-Bas et en Suisse avant de s'étendre à toute l'Europe. Parmi ses illustres DJ, on citera Paul Oakenfold, DJ Tiësto, DJ Sasha.
On peut également citer comme grands noms actuels de la scène trance mondiale (voir liste complète ci-dessous) : Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren, DJ Tiësto, Ferry Corsten, DJ Tatana, Johan Gielen, Judge Jules et Above & Beyond.

Elle se caractérise par une recherche systématique de lignes mélodiques répétitives et planantes. L'esprit de cette musique vient du fait que la musique et la danse peuvent altérer la perception sensorielle de l'auditeur et le transporter dans un état d'extase hypnotique et méditative, la transe (sens premier de trance en anglais). L'origine du mot trance reste ambiguë et des suggestions font état que le terme peut dériver de l'album Trancefer de Klaus Schulze ou encore du projet Dance 2 Trance. Le titre The Age of Love, sorti en 1990, est généralement considéré comme le premier morceau de trance et a servi de base pour la scène trance allemande des années 1990. Francfort-sur-le-Main (Allemagne) est souvent cité comme le lieu de naissance de la trance. Comme témoins du Frankfurter Trance Sound, on trouve notamment Sven Väth ou encore DJ Dag qui collabore avec Jam El Mar sur Dance 2 Trance. A Francfort, le Frankfurter Trance Sound se trouve au Dorian Gray, un club de renom. Avec le compositeur Torsten Stenzel, elle trouve une voie vers la commercialisation. Mais la trance n'est pas exclusive à une ville. À la même époque, un autre mouvement de trance se développe à Berlin autour d'artistes tels que Paul van Dyk. Après quelques années de gestation en Allemagne, la trance évoluera en Grande-Bretagne, en Belgique, aux Pays-Bas et en Suisse avant de s'étendre à toute l'Europe. Parmi ses illustres DJ, on citera Paul Oakenfold, DJ Tiësto, DJ Sasha. On peut également citer comme grands noms actuels de la scène trance mondiale (voir liste complète ci-dessous) : Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren, DJ Tiësto, Ferry Corsten, DJ Tatana, Johan Gielen, Judge Jules et Above & Beyond. Schon vor den 1990 Jahren wurde Trance in England von The KLF ins Leben gerufen, die ihre Stilrichtung im Original von "What Time is Love" von 1988 und "Last Train to Trancentral" von 1989 'Pure Trance' nannten, was zur damaligen Zeit eine völlig neue Musikrichtung war, welche Acid und House ergänzte. Trance hat sich danach als musikalische Stilrichtung zu Beginn der 90er-Jahren vor allem in Deutschland entwickelt und durchgesetzt, gegen Mitte bis Ende des Jahrzehnts auch wieder in England und den Niederlanden.
Entwickelt hat sich Trance aus der Musikrichtung Acid House und später auch Techno. Trance ist jedoch sehr viel melodischer und besticht durch vielfältige Effekte und Klänge aus den verschiedensten Musikrichtungen.
In der Anfangszeit waren an der Entwicklung die Produzenten des Frankfurter Eye Q-Labels rund um den Star-DJ Sven Väth maßgebend beteiligt: Ralf Hildenbeutel, Stevie B-Zet und Matthias Hoffmann (A.C. Boutsen). Ihre Projekte hatten unterschiedliche Namen, unter anderem Cygnus X, Odyssee of Noises oder Earth Nation. Die Veröffentlichungen erfreuen sich auch heute noch großer Beliebtheit. In Berlin gehörten Harald Blüchel (Cosmic Baby) und Paul van Dyk, in Frankfurt Technoclub-Gründer Talla 2XLC und DJ Dag zu den erfolgreichsten Vertretern.
Um 1993 und 1994 nahm der Anteil an einfachen Produktionen zu, alte volkstümliche Lieder wurden gecovert, und während die Trance-Szene einen großen Zuwachs hatte, geriet sie innerhalb der Techno-Bewegung zunehmend in Verruf.
Ab 1996/97 nahm das Interesse an Trance innerhalb des deutschsprachigen Raum stark ab und konzentrierte sich auf einige wenige Charterfolge, wie zum Beispiel „Children" (Robert Miles) oder „Seven Days And One Week" (BBE). Dagegen entwickelte sich Ende der 1990er-Jahre in den Niederlanden und in England eine eigene Trance-Kultur mit eigenen Persönlichkeiten wie Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Sasha, Above & Beyond und Paul Oakenfold. De muziekstroming trance ontwikkelde zich begin jaren 90 nadat dj's steeds vaker techno met house-, rock-, disco- en New Agemuziek waren gaan combineren. Hierdoor ontstonden verschillende muziekstromingen: hardtrance, Goa-trance, progressive trance, eurodance en happy hardcore. De trance zoals we die nu kennen was toen vooral een underground stroming die alleen door een klein groepje fanatici geliefd was. Bekende producers van die tijd waren DJ Dag, Jam El Mar, Mark Spoon en Cosmic Baby. Eén van de eerste trance-platen die bij het grote publiek doorbrak, was Power of American Natives van Dance 2 Trance, die in 1993 op nummer 2 stond in de Nederlandse top 40.
Na de Hardtrance/Happy Hardcore hype midden jaren 90 in Nederland, België en Duitsland trok ook de langzamere trance de belangstelling van het grote publiek door hits als Robert Miles - Children, BBE - Seven Days & One Week en Energy 52 - Café Del Mar. Maar trance werd pas echt razend populair toen het genre in 1999 een gezicht kreeg in de vorm van bekende DJ's als DJ Tiësto, Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren en Ferry Corsten. Ook werden er in die tijd veel festivals met tienduizenden bezoekers georganiseerd die trance op het programma hadden staan.
De huidige trance bevat nog wel de basiselementen die het had begin jaren 90, maar toch zijn de producties van deze tijd niet meer te vergelijken met die van vroeger.
Veel platen in de top 40 krijgen het predicaat trance, maar dat is meestal onterecht. Dit zijn meestal moderne eurodance platen die makkelijk in het gehoor liggen en daardoor toegankelijker zijn voor het grote publiek dan de underground trance. (Less) Channel: youtube

An alternative evolution would be to fuse trance with other genres such as drum'n'bass, various artists have attempted this but it has still to break into acceptance even in the underground. Frustrated, extreme versions of trance have mutated through gabba into violent fringe genres of "hard-trance" such as terrorcore and drillcore.
Trance more loyal to its roots has begun to rear its head on the internet more recently however, with the abundance of legal music download sites - including the likes of Audiojelly, Trackitdown and Beatport - enabling enthusiasts to avoid having to track down hard to find vinyl by downloading mp3s, updated on a weekly basis. As a result, both commercial and progressive trance now have a much more global, if not chart-bound, presence, with big-draw artists such as Tiësto, ATB, Armin van Buuren, BT, Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond, Paul Oakenfold, Gizzo, Johan Gielen, Solarstone and the US's George Acosta able to maintain their esteemed positions while upcoming producers and DJs can also breakthrough into the public domain.
Trance employs a 4/4 time signature, a tempo of 130 to 165 BPM, and 32 beat phrases, somewhat faster than house music but usually not as fast as Psychedelic. Early tracks were sometimes slower. A kick drum is placed on every downbeat and a regular open hi-hat is often placed on the off-beat. Some simple extra percussive elements are usually added, and major transitions, builds or climaxes are often foreshadowed by lengthy 'snare rolls' - a quick succession of equally spaced snare drum hits that builds in volume towards the end of a measure or phrase.
Synthesizers form the central elements of most trance tracks, with simple sawtooth-based sounds used both for short pizzicato elements and for long, sweeping string sounds. Rapid arpeggios and minor scales are common features. Trance tracks often use one central "hook" melody which runs through almost the entire song, repeating at intervals anywhere between 2 beats and several bars. While many trance tracks contain no vocals at all, other tracks rely heavily on vocals, and thus a sub-genre has developed. The sound and quality of the production relies to a large degree upon the technology available. Vintage analog equipment still holds a place in the hearts of many producers and enthusiasts, with names such as Moog, Roland and Oberheim staples in the trance sound palette. However, the mainstream availability of digital technology has allowed a whole new group of producers to emerge due to the fact that while top shelf digital (or analog modeling) synthesizers cost thousands of US dollars, high demand and a small supply of clean vintage analog synthesizers causes them to be extremely expensive.
Trance records are often heavily loaded with reverb and delay effects on the synthesizer sounds, vocals and often parts of the percussion section. This provides the tracks with the sense of vast space that trance producers tend to look for in order to achieve the genre's epic quality. Flangers, phasers and other effects are also commonly used at extreme settings - in trance there is no need for sounds to resemble any real-world instrument, and so producers have free reign.
As is the case with many dance music tracks, trance tracks are usually built with sparser intros and outros in order to enable DJs to blend them together more readily. As trance is more melodic and harmonic than much dance music, the construction of trance tracks in such a way is particularly important in order to avoid dissonant (or "key clashing", ie out of tune with one another) mixes by DJs who do not mix harmonically. Glazba je karakterizirana tempom od 130 bpm do 160 bpm, koristi ponavljajuće melodične sintisajzerske dionice, nagle promjene glasnoće ili prekide. Ponekad koriste i vokale ali tekstovi su u većini slučajeve jednostavni ili se sastoje od ponavljajuće fraze. Trance je nastao kao kombinacija techno i house glazbe. Kako se trance glazba često pušta u noćnim klubovima može se smatrati i kao forma klubske glazbe. Trance je nastao u njemačkim klubovima ranih 90tih godina, a upravo jedan njemački grad - Frankfurt, se često naziva kao mjesto gdje je ta cijela priča i započela. Rani pioniri ovog žanra uključuju izvođače kao što su DJ Dag, Oliver Lieb i Sven Vath. Rani trance je dijelio mnoge sličnosti sa technom, u smislu tempa i ritmičke strukture. No, trance je sadržavao i melodičnu strukturu koja je izvorno pripadala tadašnjem house žanru. Ranu fazu trance-a možemo okarakteriziriati kao glazbu sa „hipnotizirajućim efektom", kvalitetnom melodijom te repetirajućom ritmičkom strukurom. U isto vrijeme, dakle ranih 90tih godina, glazbena revolucija se odvijala u Goi (Indija) gdje će ubrzo nastati „Goa trance". Ubrzo nakon, uslijediti će i profilacija umjetnika kao što su Gil, Eat Static, Doof te Man With No Name. Sredinom 90tih godina pojavljuje se progressive trance te postaje jedan od dominantnijih oblika plesne glazbe. Taj pravac se više oslanjao na bas te glavnu melodiju, odbacujući pritom ponavljajuću te hipnotizirajuću strukturu trance žanra. Trance je bio oštriji od housea, melodičniji od techna te umirujući od drum'n'bassa stoga ne čudi što je u trenu postao vrlo popularan. Neki od DJ-a koji su sudjelovali u stvaranju ovog žanra ga napuštaju sredinom i krajem 90tih godina te prelaze na progresivniji zvuk (Sasha, John Digweed).
