I would be glad if Muslims managed to abandon the death penalty for apostasy by interpreting the Koran in a more humane way. My claims are these: 1. There exists a legal opinion in Islam that postulates capital punishment for leaving that religion. (According to the Encyclopaedia of the Quran it is the dominant legal opinion - see below.) 2. According to Hadith Apostasy was punished with death already by Mohamed's companions and apparently they followed his command. Thus, Muslims on YouTube may prefer the positions of scholars like Ahmad Kutty or Ali Gomaa and I certainly will not try to convince them otherwise. But if they claim that a capital punishment for Apostasy does not exist in Islam they are absolutely wrong. The death penalty for apostasy IS part of Islamic reality and was from the first days. To claim otherwise and to call people liars who point this out, is deceiving and most certainly a propagandistic move.
