This film begins with an overview of Japan and China at the beginning of the 20th Century, explains the mind-set of the Japanese and their God, Hirohito, and then continues with the invasion of China, the crimes committed by the Japanese (during the Fall) on the road to Nanjing, Nanjing Massacre, the rape of the Philipines, Unit 731, the Baatan death camps, Japanese denials, and the dropping of the A-bomb on Japan.
The purpose of this film is educational, and to explain the mind-set that led to a horrible crime: the torture and murder of 280,000 civilians by Japanese soldiers who took great pleasure in raping, bayonetting, beheading and burning people alive. We wish to emphasize: These crimes took place throughout Asia, and the Japanese planned the same for the White races as well, including America.
Those who do not learn from the past, are condemned to repeat it. The purpose of this film is, thus, educational. We have no hatred for the Japanese people.
This documentary is an independent production. We are not associated with and never received any financial help from the Chinese government or any group or organization. ABOUT TED LEONSIS: We sent a VHS copy of this film and a marketing plan to the top executives at many internet companies including AOL and Ted Leonsis in the summer of 2005. We believe that Leonsis stole our idea for this film and then stole our marketing plan. People we later learned were working for Leonsis falsely pretended to represent us and our film and then stole over $25,000 in donated production funds then harassed and threatened our co-producer Haiyan Wu. The Chinese communist government which had been friendly and supportive turned hostile and refused to allow our film to be shown in China so that Leonsis would not have any competition. Those organizing showings of our film in China were even threatened by Chinese authorities, even though our film was being praised by all the major newspapers and media in China, including the Communist mouth piece, The People's Daily. Who benefited by stopping our film? Ted Leonsis.
Nevertheless, our film was shown in Nanking in December of 2007, the 70th anniversary of the Rape of Nanking. Unlike the Leonsis film which failed in Nanking, the showing of our film was a tremendous success and the theater was packed and people stood and lined the walls. A second showing in Wuhan China was even more successful. Whereas, in China, the Leonsis film was shown largely to empty seats, over 1,800 people showed up to watch our film in Wuhan and 300 had to be turned away.
Don't be fooled by Leonsis.
China Central TV called our film "the best... most influential film ever made on this tragedy."
Indeed, our film has been viewed an estimated 10 million times world wide, 100s of copies of this film are hosted on Chinese websites, and it has been viewed over 4 million times in the US. (Less)

On May 11, 2004, the website of the militant group Muntada al-Ansar[6] posted a video with the opening title of "Abu Musa'b al-Zarqawi slaughters an American", which shows Berg being decapitated. Al-Zarqawi had an association with the terrorist group Al-Qaida, as does Muntada al-Ansar. The video is about five and a half minutes long. Berg is seen in the video wearing an orange jumpsuit. He identified himself: "My name is Nick Berg, my father's name is Michael, my mother's name is Susan. I have a brother and sister, David and Sarah. I live in West Chester, Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia." The video shows Berg surrounded by five men wearing ski masks and shemaghs. A lengthy statement is read aloud. The statement says that Berg's killing was in direct retaliation for the abuse of prisoners by U.S. troops at Abu Ghraib prison. The masked men then converge on Berg and decapitate him with a knife. A scream can be heard as men shout the Takbir: "Allah Akbar". On May 13, news outlets quoted a CIA source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, that a voice analysis of the tape has led the agency to conclude that the masked man who reads the statement and carries out the killing is "with high probability" Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. During the video, the man reading the statement threatens further deaths: "We tell you that the dignity of the Muslim men and women in Abu Ghraib and others is not redeemed except by blood and souls. You will not receive anything from us but coffins after coffins ... slaughtered in this way." The video further threatens U.S. President George W. Bush and Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf. The video bears some similarities to the videotape showing the killing and decapitation of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in Pakistan in 2002. Like Pearl, Berg was Jewish, although it is uncertain whether his captors were aware of that. There are many differences from other decapitation videos, including the decapitation video of Paul Johnson in Saudi Arabia and the video of Kim Sun-il in Iraq. After attending a forgiveness class at Immaculata University, Michael Berg developed forgiveness toward al-Zarqawi and those directly involved in the beheading.[7] (Less)

The Rape of Nanking: The Forgotten Holocaust of World War II is a bestselling 1997 non-fiction book written by Iris Chang about the 19371938 Nanking Massacre, the massacre and atrocities committed by the Imperial Japanese Army after it captured Nanjing, then capital of China, during the Second Sino-Japanese War. It documents the events, based on the author's research, leading up to the Nanking Massacre and the atrocities that were committed. The book also presents the view that the Japanese government has not done enough to redress the atrocities. It is one of the first major English-language books to introduce the Nanking Massacre to Western and Eastern readers alike, and has been translated into several languages.[1]
The book was a source of fame for Chang but was also controversial; it has been praised as a work which "shows more clearly than any previous account just what [the Japanese] did",[2] and at the same time was criticised as "seriously flawed" and "full of misinformation and harebrained explanations".[3] It was received with both acclaim and criticism by the public and by academics. Chang's research on the book was credited with the finding of the diaries of John Rabe and Minnie Vautrin, both of whom played important roles in the Nanking Safety Zone, a designated area in Nanjing which protected Chinese civilians during the Nanking Massacre.[4]
The book prompted AOL executive Ted Leonsis to fund and produce Nanking, a 2007 documentary film about the Nanking Massacre, after he read it.
The Nanking Massacre, commonly known as the Rape of Nanking, was a genocidal war crime committed by the Japanese military in Nanjing (Nanking), then the capital of the Republic of China, after it fell to the Imperial Japanese Army on December 13, 1937. The duration of the massacre is not clearly defined, although the violence lasted at least until early February 1938. Estimates of the death count vary, with most reliable sources holding that 200,000 to 300,000 Chinese civilians were massacred in this period.[1][2] Japanese officials lied about civilian death figures at the time, and some Japanese ultranationalists are still active in attempting to deny that the killings ever occurred.[2][3]
During the occupation of Nanking, the Japanese army committed numerous atrocities, such as rape, looting, arson and the execution of prisoners of war and civilians. The executions began under the pretext of eliminating Chinese soldiers disguised as civilians, and a large number of innocent men were intentionally misidentified as enemy combatants and executed as the massacre gathered momentum. A large number of women and children were also killed, as rape and murder became more widespread.[4]
While the Japanese government has acknowledged the massacre did occur,[5] some Japanese nationalists have argued that the death toll was military in nature and that no such civilian atrocities ever occurred. Denial of the massacre, and a divergent array of revisionist accounts of the killings, has become a staple of Japanese nationalist discourse.[6] In Japan, public opinion of the massacres varies, and only a minority deny the atrocity.[6] Nonetheless, revisionist accounts have often created controversy that has reverberated in the media, particularly in China.[3][6] The 1937 massacre and the extent of its coverage in Japanese school textbooks continues to trouble Sino-Japanese relations.
