Ungefähr dies: Sich in die günstige Lage zu versetzen, gewisse Eindrücke zu empfangen, mit der Absicht etwa sie zu beschreiben.” (Ludwig Wittgenstein) Wechselnde Aspekte in einem imaginären Tagesablauf. Die Stadt setzt sich aus dem Blick auf die verschiedenen Teile zusammen. Zeit- und Aspektwechsel als Annäherung an topographische Ausschnitte der Stadt Berlin. Eine Spirale von der Peripherie zum Zentrum und vom Zentrum zur Peripherie. Die Ränder bewegen sich ins Zentrum, das Zentrum driftet zum Rand. Das Zentrum wird durch die Peripherie, die Peripherie durch das Zentrum definiert. So durchdringen sich letztendlich beide und Klänge des Zentrums stehen zu Bildern der Peripherie in Verbindung, Musik der Peripherie erhallt in den Bildern des Zentrums. Über den Stadtplan wird ein Raster gelegt, welches 24 Segmente definiert. Aus jedem Segment werden einzelne Orte ausgewählt, die mit Video und Ton dargestellt werden. Jedem Ort wird die selbe Zeitlänge (2,5 min.) sowohl für die Videosequenzen a ls auch für die musikalische Kompositionen zugeordnet. Kein Ort und keine Zeit werden so bevorzugt, nur weil sie spektakulärer oder interessanter erscheinen könnten als andere. Das Projekt will keine vollständige Darstellung,, sondern eher Konturen aufzeigen; Einblicke, Beobachtungen, Hinhören und Interventionen sollen Stimmungen und Vielfältigkeit der ausgewählten Orte als ein fragmentarisches Nebeneinander übermitteln. Die Musik und der Ton sind in ähnlicher Weise behandelt worden, auch hier werden Motive an wechselnden Orten wieder aufgenommen. Ergebnis sind eigenständige Kompositionen und Videotapes, die die ausgewählten Orte als visuell-akustische Collage porträtieren. In der Installation, die auf dem beschriebenen Stadt-Raster-Plan basiert, sind alle Orte/Zeiten, alle Bilder/Kompositionen an den markierten Stellen des Rasterplans gleichzeitig gegenwärtig. Multiple Affinitäten können durch den Benutzer über ein Interface erfahrbar gemacht werden, über eine computergeführte Steuerung an, die das aleatorische Prinzip des Würfelns aufnimmt, da so eine nicht vorherbestimmbare Auswahl in der Rekombination von Bild und Ton gewährleistet ist und sich so neue Sinn/Erlebnisbezüge ergeben können. So ist die Erfahrung, das Gehen von Bild und Ton der Stadt für den Benutzer Herausforderung und Kreation zugleich. “Es geht nicht von A nach B, sondern dreht sich in Schleifen, in Spiralen. Es kommt eigentlich darauf an, Bild-Ton- oder Ton-Ton- oder Bild-Bild-Beziehungen herzustellen, die assoziativ und in der Aussagenlogik nicht vorher formulierbar sind” (Harun Farocki). Es wird so eine Montage möglich, die vom Auge zum Ohr und wieder zurück verläuft. Ton- und Bildfolgen kollidieren, harmonieren. “1+1=3” (Eisenstein). An den Nahtstellen ensteht durch Zufall oder bewußten Eingriff des Rezipienten etwas Drittes, etwas Neues. VORTEX 24 HOURS BERLIN an aleatoric-interactive video-music-project Berlin, Haus des Rundfunks, Klangkunst-Galerie A spiralling corridor was drawn over a map of Berlin, deliniatng the course of an imaginary 24 hour day. Devided in 24 hourly segments, the path leads from the eastern periphery of the city, tapering towards the center (12 noon), outwards, to halt at its western fringes at midnight. Hourrly segments were allocated (drawn by lot), to a composer and video artist who set out on the 21st of June '96 to record visual and audio material from their respective segment - 4 alloted to each artist - as the basis for the composition. No place and no time have preference because they might be more spectacular or appear more interesting than others. The project aims not for a complete portrayal but rather observances, passing glances, insights, listening, and spontaneous interventions, evoking mood and variety of places as a fragmentary juxtaposition. Previewing of shooting locations was not planed, thus corresponding to the overall chance element; the challenge being to work solely with gathered material to be condensed into a seperate two and a half minute music and a video composition for each section. In this installation, based on the city segments described, all times and places, all the images and the compositions exist simultaneously. Through an interface, a virtual 24 sided dice all 24 times 24 possible combinations of music and video compositions are available at random access. Sound and image are recombined yielding an other, a new reference of meaning. Navigation through the `stock' of visual-acoustic material allows for other routes to be searched and alternative destinations to arrive upon. Image and sound order collide, then again may harmonise unexpectedly. By chance or conscious rearrangement something new will result. (Less)
