2008-04-17 15:09:58 Description: Audrey Faith Perry McGraw, known professionally by her first married name Faith Hill (born September 21, 1967), is an American country singer, known for her commercial success as well as her marriage (More) Audrey Faith Perry McGraw, known professionally by her first married name Faith Hill (born September 21, 1967), is an American country singer, known for her commercial success as well as her marriage to fellow country singer Tim McGraw. Hill's "soulful and rasping voice"[1] and talent for picking songs[2] have helped her to sell over 30 million records and accumulate 11 number one singles on the Country charts. Hill has been honored by the Country Music Association, the Academy of Country Music, the Grammy Awards, the American Music Awards and the People's Choice Awards. Her Soul2Soul II Tour 2006 with husband McGraw became the highest-grossing country tour of all time.[3] In 2001 she was named one of the 30 most powerful women in America by Ladies Home Journal. Biography [edit] Early life Hill was born Audrey Faith Perry in Ridgeland, Mississippi near Jackson, Mississippi. She was adopted as an infant, and raised by a couple in the nearby town of Star. Her adoptive parents raised their two (biological) sons and Hill in a very Christian environment.[2] Hill's vocal talent was apparent early, and she had her first public performance, a 4-H luncheon, when she was seven.[4] By the time she was a teenager, Hill was a regular performer at area churches, even those not in her own Baptist denomination.[5] At seventeen, Hill formed a band that played in local rodeos. She briefly attended college, but at 19 quit school to move to Nashville and pursue her dream of being a country singer. In her early days in Nashville, Hill auditioned to be a backup singer for Reba McEntire, but failed to secure the job.[2] After a stint selling t-shirts, Hill became a secretary at a music publishing firm.[4] Apart from her quest for entry into the music industry, Hill also began working towards a more robust family life. In 1988 she married songwriter and music executive Dan Hill, who provided the surname she would use as she became famous. Two years later she began a search for her natural mother, whom she eventually met and with whom she still corresponds.[6] A co-worker heard Hill singing to herself one day, and soon the head of her music publishing company was encouraging her to become a demo singer for the firm.[4] She supplemented this work by singing backup vocals for songwriter Gary Burr, who often performed his new songs at Nashville's Bluebird Cafe. During one of those performances, an executive from Warner Bros. Records was in the audience, and, impressed with Hill's voice, began the process of signing her to a recording contract.[2] [edit] 1993 1997: Country success Hill's debut album was Take Me as I Am (1993); sales were strong, buoyed by the chart success of "Wild One". Hill became the first female country singer in 30 years to hold Billboard's #1 position for four consecutive weeks when "Wild One" managed the feat in 1994.[7] Her version of Erma Franklin's "Piece of My Heart", also went to the top of the country charts in 1994,[4] although rock fans drew unflattering comparisons to Janis Joplin's cover.[citation needed] The album sold a total of 3 million copies.[4] Shortly after the release of her album, Hill found her marriage falling apart. She and Dan Hill divorced in 1994.[6] The recording of Faith's second album was delayed by surgery to repair a ruptured blood vessel on her vocal cords. It Matters to Me finally appeared in 1995 and was another success, with the title track becoming her fourth #1 country single. Several other top 10 singles followed, and this album also sold over 3 million copies.[4] The fifth single from the album, "I Can't Do That Anymore," was written by country music artist Alan Jackson. In the spring of 1996 Hill began the Spontaneous Combustion Tour with country singer Tim McGraw. At that time Hill had recently become engaged to her former producer, Scott Hendricks, and McGraw had recently broken an engagement. McGraw and Hill were quickly attracted to each other and Hill broke her engagement so that she and McGraw could begin dating. The pair became engaged on the tour and married on October 6, 1996.[6] They have three daughters together: Gracie Katherine (b. 1997), Maggie Elizabeth (b. 1998) and Audrey Caroline (b. 2001). Since their marriage, Hill and McGraw have strived to never be apart for more than three consecutive days.[2] [edit] 1998 2004: Pop crossover After the release of It Matters to Me, Hill took a three-year break from recording to give herself a rest from four years of touring and to begin a family with McGraw. During her break, she joined forces with her husband for their first duet, "It's Your Love". [1] The song stayed at Number 1 for six weeks[4] and won awards from both the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association. Hill has remarked that sometimes when they perform the song together, " it [doesn't] feel like anybody else was really watching."[1] She reentered the music business with 1998's Faith.[1] The album moved her closer towards a mainstream, pop-oriented sound, although it retained some country sound. "This Kiss" became a #1 country hit, and was the first of her singles to place on the pop charts, peaking at #7. The album sold over six million copies and delivered more hits including another duet with McGraw, "Just To Hear You Say That You Love Me", "Let Me Let Go" and "The Secret Of Life".[4] To follow up this new found success Hill immediately released Breathe, which debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard Country and all genre charts, ahead of albums by Mariah Carey and Savage Garden.[8] Although the album had few overt country sounds, it "complement[ed] her vocal strengths."[9] For the first time, the album consisted solely of songs about love and did not venture into the more somber territory that her previous albums had touched.[9] The title track, "Breathe", reached Number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.[8] "The Way You Love Me" hit the top ten as well (#6), and became one of the longest running singles in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 (57 weeks).[citation needed] The album won Hill three Grammy Awards including Best Country Album, Best Country Collaboration With Vocals for Let's Make Love featuring Tim McGraw and Best Country Female Vocal Performance for Breathe.[10].[10] It also marked a step away from her girl-next-door image, as the videos and promotional pictures all portrayed a much sexier image. Breathe has sold almost 10 million copies worldwide.[11] Hill used her 1999 tour to support a national children's book drive. Fans who donated books at one of her concerts were entered into a drawing to meet her personally after the show.[12] The effort resulted in the donation of 35,000 children's books, which were distributed to hospitals, schools, libraries, and daycare centers in 40 cities across the United States.[13] 2000 was an especially busy year for Hill. Besides a successful tour with her husband, Hill was featured in a CBS television special, VH1's Behind the Music, VH1 Divas 2000, and the Lifetime cable channel's Intimate Portraits series.[8] She signed an endorsement deal with CoverGirl makeup.[4], performed at the Academy Awards and the Grammy Awards, appeared on the cover of numerous magazine, and performed the national anthem at the Super Bowl.[8] Hill was also named to Mr. Blackwell's 10-best dressed women of 2000, the only singer listed among actresses and other celebrities. Hill and McGraw also embarked on their first Soul2Soul tour the "Soul2Soul Tour 2000".[14] Musically, in 2000 Hill recorded a song for the movie Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas The song also appeared on the pop and country charts. Hill's success on the pop charts disturbed some country music insiders, who questioned whether she was trying to dismiss her country roots and move into the pop genre. Despite the grumbling, Hill won the CMA Female Vocalist of The Year Award, and in her acceptance speech announced, "I love this business and I love this industry...and my heart is here."[8] In 2001, Hill recorded a song for the Pearl Harbor soundtrack. "There You'll Be" also appeared on the album There You'll Be: The Best Of Faith Hill, an international greatest hits album. The album featured some dance mixes of "Piece Of My Heart," "Let Me Let Go," "The Way You Love Me" and "Breathe." In 2002, Hill released her new album with a more pop-oriented sound, Cry. The album "spotlight[ed] her impressive set of pipes", but also marked the completion of her "transformation into a pop diva", containing few nods to her country roots. Though the album debuted at #1 on Billboard magazine's pop and country album charts,[4] and Hill made her debut as musical guest on Saturday Night Live, the album's singles (including the title track "Cry", written and originally performed by Angie Aparo) received much less radio airplay than her previous smashes.[15] The album however, did win a Grammy Award and has sold over 3 million copies worldwide.[10] Faith Hill's 2002 single "Baby You Belong" off her Cry album was used as the theme song for the movie Lilo & Stitch. The music video featured clips from the movie as well as performance clips, It was released and well received in Asia. Hill was also interested in branching out into acting. Although she was rumored to have won a part in Mel Gibson's We Were Soldiers, she did not actually appear in the movie.[16] Her movie debut came in the summer of 2004, when Hill co-starred with Nicole Kidman, Matthew Broderick and Glenn Close in director Frank Oz's remake of the 1975 thriller The Stepford Wives.[17] 2005 2006: Back to country roots In 2005, Faith Hill returned with her new country album, Fireflies. The CD debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard Country and all genre albums charts, placing her among only a handful of artists to have 3 consecutive albums debut at number 1 on both charts.[18] The debut single, "Mississippi Girl", became Hill's highest-debuting single. The song was written specifically for her by John Rich (of Big and Rich) and Adam Shoenfield of MuzikMafia, and tells the abbreviated story of her life. Hill recorded two other songs by Rich, "Sunshine and Summertime" and "Like We Never Loved at All", both of which became successful singles.[19] The album marked a return to Hill's country roots and succeeded in reestablishing her place on country radio.[20] Her focus changed to charitable endeavors in 2005. In the days immediately following Hurricane Katrina, Hill and her husband, who was raised in Louisiana, joined groups taking supplies to Gulfport, Mississippi. The two also hosted several charity concerts to benefit those who were displaced by the storm.[21] Later in the year the couple established the Neighbor's Keeper Foundation, which provides funding for community charities to assist with basic humanitarian services in the event of a natural disaster or for desperate personal circumstances. After a six-year break from touring following the birth of her youngest daughter,[2] in 2006 Hill and husband Tim McGraw embarked on their Soul2Soul II Tour 2006. The tour became the highest grossing country music tour ever with a gross of $90 million.[22][3] It was named "Major Tour of the Year" by the prestigous Pollstar Magazine, beating out such heavyweights as Madonna and the Rolling Stones. In a special gesture, the couple donated all of the profits from their performance in New Orleans to Hurricane Katrina relief.[23] 2006 CMA Awards controversy In November 2006, Hill made entertainment news headlines when she appeared to react angrily to losing the Female Vocalist of the Year award to Carrie Underwood at the CMA Awards. Hill, who was backstage at the time, could be seen pacing in anticipation and throwing both hands in the air as if she had won, and then mouthing "What!?" into the camera and then stepping away from the camera after Underwood's name was called.[24] Hill claimed that her reaction was a joke, saying in a statement, "The idea that I would act disrespectful towards a fellow musician is unimaginable to me. For this to become a focus of attention, given the talent gathered, is utterly ridiculous. Carrie is a talented and deserving female vocalist of the year."[25] She later called Underwood to congratulate her and to clear up any misconceptions between the two singers.[26] Underwood has stated in public that she believes Hill meant no ill-will, and that although she did not believe Hill needed to apologize, her immediate attempt to make amends elevated Underwood's respect for her. Some fans, especially those of Underwood, remain unconvinced and believe that Hill was in fact upset at Underwood's win.[27] Present Her latest album, a collection entitled The Hits In 2007, Hill started work on her first domestic greatest hits package, titled The Hits, which was released on October 2. The Hits features two new songs, "Lost" and "Red Umbrella" (the current single), plus a live version of the song "Stronger," taken from the Soul2Soul 2007 tour. The album also features hits covering her entire career from 1993-2005. Included with The Hits is a DVD of 11 of Hill's music videos. Hill will be heard on Aretha Franklin's upcoming album A Woman Falling Out of Love, planned to be released later this year. She also recorded a duet called "Sleeping with the Telephone" for Reba McEntire's Duets album, released on September 18 2007. Hill is also featured on husband Tim McGraw's new album Let It Go. She sings two duets with him, "I Need You" and "Shotgun Rider". Both songs were sung at the couple's critically acclaimed Soul2Soul II Tour 2006. She and Tim recently did an encore of their Soul2Soul II Tour; Soul2Soul 2007 began in June and ran through August. Hill was recently asked to sing the theme for Sunday Night Football that airs on the NBC network. The song is called "Waiting All Week For Sunday Night". (Less)

Rihanna went to Charles F. Broome Memorial School, a primary school in Barbados, and then on to one of Barbados' Grammar (older secondary) schools, the Combermere School, where she formed a musical trio with two of her classmates. In 2004, she won the Miss Combermere Beauty Pageant and performed in the Colours of Combermere School Show, singing Mariah Carey's "Hero". At the age of 15, Rihanna received her big break when one of her friends introduced her to music producer Evan Rogers, who was vacationing in Barbados with his wife. Rogers, along with his partner, Carl Sturken, helped Rihanna record material in the U.S. which was sent to various recording companies. One copy of Rihanna's work was sent to Jay-Z, who eventually signed her to Def Jam Records. Rihanna cites Alicia Keys, Beyonc Knowles and her Caribbean background as major musical influences.[10] Rihanna also stated in an interview that her friend and former Island Def Jam record label artist Fefe Dobson was someone that she admired and looked up to, having a fellow artist writing, singing, and performing the music she truly loves-------------------------------------Music career Music of the Sun Main article: Music of the Sun Rihanna's debut album, Music of the Sun, was released 30 August, 2005 from which, further singles were released, the first being "Pon de Replay" which was released on October 11, 2005 and reached position #2 in both the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, the UK Singles Chart due to considerable airplay and gained several #1 positions in various niche charts [14] [15] The single itself was written by Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers alongside Rihanna herself and described by Rolling Stone magazine as a "poppy piece of dancehall reggae with slapping, syncopated beats recalling big-band jazz."[16] However, despite Pon de Replay's commercial chart success, the album itself was rated 2 out of 5 stars by Rolling Stone Magazine and described as lacking the replay value, ingenuity and rhythm of the single with "generic vocal hiccups and frills" of US R&B inflecting upon her "caribbean charm".[17] Since its release, the album reached the top 10 in both US and Canadian charts, gaining gold certification from the RIAA from selling 500,000 units and subsequent platinum certifications for selling 2 million units in various other countries. To further promote the album, Rihanna toured as an opening act for American pop singer Gwen Stefani. The second single, "If It's Lovin' That You Want", was considerably less successful than its predecessor, peaking at position #36 on the U.S Billboard Hot 100 and position #11 in the UK. A third single, "Let Me", was only released in Japan, where it was a big hit, reaching #8 on the charts. When asked about the nature of the album by AskMen Magazine about the album itself, Rihanna noted that it was released quickly after she was discovered in her home as a means of portraying her image as a girl from a small area who had moved to a large country in line with her debut, and that her second album was released somewhat shortly thereafter to illustrate that in her time in the country she had grown up quickly enough to release another album.-------------------------------------A Girl Like Me Main article: A Girl like Me In 2006, Rihanna participated in several endorsement deals, including for Nike and J.C. Penney. She released her second album, A Girl Like Me, in April 2006; less than eight months after the release of her first album. The album debuted at number five in the U.S. and number four in the UK. The lead single, "SOS", was used in her endorsement deal with Nike. The song became Rihanna's first number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart; it also debuted at number one on the Hot Digital Songs chart. "SOS" peaked at number one in Australia and number two in the UK. The second single, entitled "Unfaithful", was written by R&B singer Ne-Yo, and addresses the feelings of guilt that the protagonist of the song faces as she cheats on her boyfriend. The song became her third top ten hit in the U.S. and in the UK. The third single, "We Ride", wasn't as successful as her previous releases, failing to chart on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, however, it became her fifth UK top 20 single, where it peaked at number 17 on that chart and peaked number one on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart. Rihanna's fourth single from the album, "Break It Off" featuring Sean Paul, had already climbed to number 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 based solely on airplay. It was released as a digital download on February 19, 2007, which made the song jump from number fifty-two to number ten and then eventually peak at number nine. In total Rihanna has had 11 different number-ones on the Billboard charts and has had major success on the Hot Dance Club Play chart with four number-ones ("Pon De Replay", "SOS", "Unfaithful", and "We Ride"). When Rihanna received an endorsement deal from Clinique, she recorded a song written by Ne-Yo entitled "Just Be Happy" as part of the deal to promote their Happy fragrance. The song can be heard on her Myspace page. Rihanna also recently recorded a song called "Winning Women" with Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger for P&Gs female deodorant Secret. Rihanna made her acting debut in a cameo role in Bring It On: All or Nothing, which was released on August 8, 2006; she also appeared on an episode of American soap opera All My Children and drama Las Vegas.-------------------------------------Good Girl Gone Bad Main article: Good Girl Gone Bad Rihanna went into the studio in early 2007 with Ne-Yo, Stargate, and Timbaland among others to record her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad. The album was released on June 5, 2007. It features Jay-Z and Ne-Yo as featured artists. The first single, "Umbrella", featuring Jay-Z, was released on March 29, 2007, reaching number one in various countries, including the U.S. "Umbrella" was the #1 single in the UK for 10 consecutive weeks. It was the longest running #1 single since "Wet Wet Wet's" single "Love Is All Around", back in 1994, and the longest running #1 by a female artist since Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You", which also topped the chart for 10 weeks in 1992. It was produced by Christopher "Tricky" Stewart and Terius "The-Dream" Nash. Then her second single, "Shut Up and Drive", was sent to radio stations on June 5, has so far peaked at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her club airplay third single, "Don't Stop The Music" was premiered on BET's 106 & Park on July 20, 2007 and was only released in Canada. The song is also going to be released in the UK. The fourth single, "Hate That I Love You" featuring Ne-Yo, was released on August 21, and so far has peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Rihanna her sixth top ten hit. Rihanna worked with Timbaland on three songs in the album. Justin Timberlake co-wrote and provides background vocals on "Rehab".[19] In interviews, many have questioned the meaning and reasoning of the album title. The album title reflects the difference between the old and new Rihanna. "Bad means cool, bad means funky, bad means having an attitude, bad means being edgy. This album is definitely a great representation of who I am now, and where I am in my career," she says. Seven weeks after the album was released, it had gone gold in the United States and Platinum on the United World Albums Chart. Starting September 12, 2007, Rihanna will tour Canada in support of the album with several shows then crossing off to UK, it is called the Good Girl Gone Bad Tour..-------------------------------------Accomplishments On July 7, 2007, Rihanna performed at the Japanese leg of Live Earth in Tokyo. Rihanna was named 2007 Venus Breeze 'Celebrity Legs of a Goddess' by Gillette and insured her legs for $1,000,000. Unfortunately, she injured her feet sometime after she insured her legs.[20] On September 1 issue of The Times of India newspaper, Rihanna was listed as one of the four richest teens in Hollywood.[21] On September 9, 2007, Rihanna won the Monster Single of the Year at the MTV Music Video Awards for "Umbrella". She also won the Video of the Year for "Umbrella". These two awards made her the big winner of the show alongside Justin Timberlake. She was ranked #9 on Maxim's Hot 100 list of 2007. (Less)

The current line-up is: Tony Crane (founder member 1961) lead vocals and lead guitar, Billy Kinsley (founder member 1961) lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Bob Packham (joined 1974) backing vocals and bass guitar, Adrian Crane (Tony Crane's son, joined 2000) keyboards and lead guitar, Lou Rosenthal (also joined 2000) drums. The Merseybeats Originally called The Mavericks, Tony Crane (born Anthony Crane, 17 April 1945, in Anfield, Liverpool) and Billy Kinsley (born William Ellis Kinsley, 28 November 1946, at The Mill Road Hospital, Mill Road, Anfield, Liverpool) formed their first band in late 1960 and became The Pacifics in September 1961. They were re-named The Mersey Beats in February 1962 by Bob Wooler, MC of the famous Cavern Club. Later in April 1962 they became The Merseybeats. By now Crane and Kinsley had joined up with guitarist Aaron Williams (born 23 June 1942, in Liverpool) and drummer John Banks (born 23 September 1943, in Liverpool died 20 April 1988). They were originally signed to the Brian Epstein organisation, but when Epstein failed to supply The Merseybeats with the same classy suits that he had given The Beatles, they parted company with him, much to their later regret. They then signed a record deal with Fontana and had their first hit single in 1963 with "Its Love That Really Counts", followed in 1964 by their million-selling recording "I Think of You" which gained them their first gold disc. They had two more major hits, "Dont Turn Around" and "Wishin' & Hopin'". Other successful recordings included "Last Night", "Dont Let it Happen to Us", "I Love You Yes I Do", "I Stand Accused", "Mister Moonlight", "Really Mystified", "The Fortune Teller", and "Lovely Loretta". The Merseybeats became well known for their distinctive style of fashion. They were credited as the 'Best Looking Group', dressed in tight-fitting suits with bolero jackets and frilly shirts. Their outfits, complete with high-heeled zip boots, provoked hysteria from their female fans. They appeared regularly at Liverpools world famous Cavern Club and they claim to have appeared there with The Beatles on more occasions than any other band from that era. They were also successful abroad, touring in Germany and the U.S. in 1964, and having their own Merseybeats Show on Italian television. [edit] The Merseys After their initial success had waned, the band folded and in 1966 Tony Crane and Billy Kinsley formed a vocal duo called The Merseys. They had a major hit with their first single "Sorrow", which became a Sixties classic and has since been covered by many other artists (although it was itself a cover, having previously been a B-side by The McCoys). A line from this song is included in The Beatles' "It's All Too Much", released in 1969 as part of the Yellow Submarine soundtrack album. David Bowie recorded a single version in 1973 which reached #3 in the UK Singles Chart. The duo split in 1968, with Crane and Kinsley both going on to front a number of other bands (see below). [edit] Tony Crane and The Merseybeats During the 1970s Crane continued to tour and perform live as Tony Crane and the Merseybeats, with various different line-ups. [edit] Liverpool Express Under the banner "Liverpool Express", Kinsley returned to the UK Singles Chart in the summer of 1976, with the Top 20 single, "You Are My Love". This group enjoyed moderate chart success for the next couple of years. The family moved from Dublin to Blackpool in 1962 and three years later their youngest daughter was born. "The Singing Nolans" toured the Northern club circuit for several years as a full family unit, before the five eldest girls broke away to form The Nolan Sisters in the early 1970s. The original line up of The Nolan Sisters consisted of: Anne (born 12 November 1950) Denise (born 9 April 1952) Maureen (born 14 June 1954) Linda (born 23 February 1959) Bernie (born Bernadette Therese 17 October 1960) The sisters became popular on variety programs on British television during the 1970s and released several records featuring their versions of various popular songs. In 1978 they released an LP on Target Records containing their own versions of twenty well-known songs entitled 20 Giant Hits, which reached the Top 3 on the U.K. album chart. They also supported Engelbert Humperdinck on a successful tour around the United States, and came fourth in the "A Song For Europe" competition with the Hawaiian-flavoured "Harry my Honolulu Lover." The group was subsequently signed to Epic Records (a division of CBS). It was around this time that Denise left the group to pursue a solo career. She was replaced with the youngest member of the family, Coleen (born 12 March 1965).The "Epic" years The period during which the group were signed to Epic (1979-1984) was their most commercially successful. Their first Top 40 single ("Spirit, Body and Soul") was issued in 1979 and was taken from their self-titled album (called in Japan「恋のハッピーデート(koino-happy-date)」). These would mark their last releases under the name "The Nolan Sisters." At the end of 1979, the group released the disco-flavoured single "I'm In The Mood For Dancing;(called in Japan「ダンシング・シスター(dancing-sister)」" which became their signature tune, as well as a huge hit for the quintet. It shot to the U.K. Top 3 and became a success all over the world, particularly in Japan (where the group would remain popular for many years). The single was taken from their Nolan Sisters album (although "I'm In The Mood For Dancing" marked their first release under which they were simply billed "The Nolans"). Shortly after this time Anne Nolan left the group to have a baby, making The Nolans a four-piece. Success continued into 1980 with the singles "Don't Make Waves" (#12) and "Gotta Pull Myself Together" (#9). These tracks were later found on the album Making Waves, released towards the end of the year. This album spent more weeks on the U.K. chart (33 in total) than any other Nolans release. The album also spawned two more Top 20 singles - "Who's Gonna Rock You" (#12, 1980), and "Attention To Me" (#9, 1981). The former was co-written by Billy Ocean. 1981 also saw the release of a new single - "Chemistry" (#15), which would later appear on the 1982 album Portrait. This album would become their second Top 10 and also provided their final Top 20 single "Don't Love Me Too Hard" (#14). It's follow-up, "Crashing Down" rather ironically, failed to chart, as did the remainder of their singles on the Epic label. Towards the end of the year, a compilation album entitled Altogether was released, containing all of their hit singles on the Epic label. It sold in moderation. The Nolans achieved success in Europe, Australia and New Zealand but their biggest success was in Japan, where several of their songs reached number one. They are famous for outselling The Beatles in Japan. By the time Altogether was released, Anne Nolan had re-joined the group and they begun to tour as a five-piece again for a while before Linda left in 1984 to marry the group's ex tour manager Brian Hudson, and to pursue a cabaret-based solo career. She was nicknamed the "Naughty Nolan" after launching her career with a near-naked publicity shot.+++++++++++++++Post success era Since breaking away from Epic, The Nolans have been signed to several record labels (mostly minor ones). The remainder of their work in the 1980s mostly consisted of cover versions of popular songs (their Epic label albums had generally consisted of some covers plus some original songs). An album of covers entitled "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" was released on Towerbell Records in 1984 and became their final U.K. Top 40 album. Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s the foursome continued to perform together as well as concentrating on their own solo projects. They remained popular in the far east and in 1992 became the first British group to be awarded the Tokubstsu Kikaku Sho (Japanese Grammy) for best foreign recording artist. They also did a four week tour of the country (during which time they found themselves appearing on a nude television show!) and signed a six-album deal there. Major changes came to the group in 1994 when Coleen left the group to have a baby, and Bernie (who had been the lead singer of the group since she was 13) left to pursue an acting career. At this point The Nolans simply consisted of Anne and Maureen.++++++++++++++Current line-up As of 2004, the line-up consists of Maureen and Anne, together with Anne's daughter Amy and her cousin Julia. Their act is largely cabaret, and they perform throughout Europe in clubs and also, particularly, in Japan. The group disbanded in 2005 when Maureen moved into Musical Theatre. The other sisters have continued to work in showbusiness. Bernadette is an actress who has played a continuing role in the police drama The Bill, and also had long term part in Brookside. Bernie tours in Mums The Word in early 2007 and returns to Blackpool North Pier in Soap quenns in the summer months. Coleen is a television presenter, and Denise and Linda have toured with a production of Blood Brothers after completing a successful West End run in London. Linda toured with Prisoner Cell Block H - The Musical. Maureen has also appeared as Mrs Johnstone in the West End version of Blood Brothers, the 4th Nolan to do so earning recognition from Guinness World Records. Maureen has a full diary for 2007. Linda continues to tour in Blood Brothers - her 7th year in the role. After completing two successful tours of "The Magic Of Judy Garland" Denise Nolan joins the tour of "The Rat Pack Is Back" reprising her Judy Garland tribute as the show's special guest. The original line up on The Nolans (minus Denise) recently reunited to sing on the TV show Loose Women. They sung "I'm In The Mood For Dancing" on August 9th 2007's Episode and, although they do not plan to get back together any time soon, they revealed that they would "never say never". (Less)

Lyrics for Kelly Clarkson's (More) Self-Harm, Eating Disorders, Alcoholism, Drug Addiction... you name it... I've been there... Self destruction is thy name... & thy name, is me.
Lyrics for Kelly Clarkson's "Addicted":
It's like you're a drug.
It's like you're a demon I can't face down.
It's like I'm stuck.
It's like I'm running from you all the time.
And I know I let you have all the power.
It's like the only company I seek is misery all around.
It's like you're a leech,
Sucking the life from me.
It's like I can't breathe,
Without you inside of me.
And I know I let you have all the power.
And I realize I'm never gonna quit you over time.
It's like I can't breathe.
(It's like I can't breathe)
It's like I can't see anything.
Nothing but you.
(It's like I can't breathe)
I'm addicted to you.
It's like I can't think,
(It's like I'm not me)
Without you interrupting me.
In my thoughts,
(In my thoughts)
In my dreams,
(In my dreams)
You've taken over me.
It's like I'm not me,
It's like I'm not me.
It's like I'm lost.
It's like I'm giving up slowly.
It's like you're a ghost that's haunting me.
Leave me alone.
And I know these voices in my head are mine alone.
And I know I'll never change my ways if I don't give you up now.
It's like I can't breathe.
(It's like I can't breathe.)
It's like I can't see anything.
Nothing but you.
(It's like I can't breathe.)
I'm addicted to you.
It's like I can't think.

In my thoughts,
(In my thoughts)
In my dreams,
(In my dreams)
You've taken over me.
It's like I'm not me.
It's like I'm not me.
I'm hooked on you,
I need a fix,
I can take it.
Just one more hit,
I promise I can deal with it.
I'll handle it, quit it,
Just one more time,
Then that's it.
Just a little bit more to get me through this.
I'm hooked on you,
I need a fix,
I can take it,
Just one more hit,
I promise I can deal with it.
I'll handle it, quit it,
Just one more time,

Just a little bit more to get me through this.

VAN DAMME'S FIGHT RECORD:
17 Knock Outs 1 Loss
* 1976 at age 16 Van Damme (Van Varenberg) won by knockout over T. Van Oostrum in 46 seconds in a full-contact debut sanction by the European Karate Union in Brussels. Van Damme then threw himself with earnest into his karate training.
* 1977 Van Damme competed in the Netherlands Kickboxing Federation which allowed round kicks to inside and outside of the thigh as well as knee strikes to the body. (Ouch). Matches were five three-minute rounds. Van Damme won TKO over Maurice Devos in first round.
* 1978 The 18-year old Jean-Claude was now a truly skilled fighter scoring an 18-second KO over E. Strauss, a 39-second stoppage when M. Juvillier quit the fight and a 12-second stoppage of O. Lang all at the EKU tournament in Antwerp, Belgium the Beginner Division.
In follow-up tournament in Iseghem, Belgium under World-All Styles Karate Organization (WAKO) he won his second Beginner's Championship with a first round stoppage over E. Leibman and Cyrrille Nollet. Van Damme also scored victories over Andre Robaeys, Jacques Pinarski, and Rolf Risberg. Rules permitting judo throws, footsweep but not thigh kicks.
* 1979 Jean-Claude Van Varenberg (Van Damme) went to Orlando, Florida USA with his 10-knockout wins and no loss to compete in the WAKO World Full-Contact Championships. In his middleweight division he met the unbeaten American fighter Sherman Bergman from Miami, Florida USA in a scheduled two 2-minute rounds. Bergman knocked Van Damme down in opening seconds -- but Van Damme pulled himself up and knocked out Bergman with a beautiful axe-kick ( ). Next Van Damme stopped Portugal's Gilberto Diaz in opening 30-seconds. Elated, the 19 year old skipped training seriously for the semi-finals losing a 2-round decision to Patrick Teugels also from his home country, Belgium; Teugels became the Worlds Vice Champion.
Returning to Europe with a fierce determination known to highly competitive young males, Van Damme knocked out Algeria's Mustapha A. Benamon and Bekim M. Muhammad in independent events by European Professional Karate Association.
* 1980 Van Damme's hometown, Brussels, Belgium hosted the renowned
Professional Karate Association (PKA) event where Van Damme as a young 19 year old teenager knocked out France's highly respected Georges Verlugels in 2 rounds winning the "Professional" European Middleweight Kickboxing Championship.
Weeks later Van Damme in an event sponsored by the European Professional Karate Association, retain his Professional Kickboxing Championship with a stoppage over Hungarian, Andras Kovac.
Van Damme enjoyed run-away popularity at his achievement when defeating older, more experience fighters at just 19.
But before retiring Van Damme requested a rematch with Patrick Teugels who was rated second in the world middleweight division and the only one to have defeated Van Damme. The rematch held in Brussels was scheduled for five 2-minute rounds. Van Damme stormed Teugels with an avalanche of aggressive fury completely overwhelming his opponent; the match was halted in under the two minute mark. Van Damme in a frenzy avenged his only loss and holds a 17 to 1 victory record!
