Okay now back to the video description: This is one of the nice features of Linux that mere windows mortals know nothing of.. That Linux users can export their display from one account to another.. This is where the idea of VNC, the remote desktop server/client concept got its start, X Windows had this capability first.. But I doubt that the X functionality in Linux would permit you to play a Guild Wars game over a network.. VNC may not allow you to do this either, but it works between two accounts on the same machine.. Let me set of the scenerio.. I have Guild Wars in my account with the login name "kiernan", but when I do tutorials, I use another account named "tutorials".. I'd love to play guild wars while my tutorial videos upload to youtube, but I need to be in my Kiernan account.. I got switch accounts and play from the "kiernan" account, and play the game, but I don't want to interrupt the web browser and cause the upload to fail.. It may fail anyhow.. But in any case.. I'd like to use the program from the other account.. What do I do? Simple.. Open a terminal in my tutorials account.. Type "xhost +" (man the xhost page to get a full description of how to use it, and when using "xhost +" I'm permitting anyone, anywhere on the Internet to stick windows on my X windows display (which is what permits the graphical user interface to operate on Linux).. Thus there is more secure ways of doing this, but I'm throwing that to the wall because I'm intent on playing some GW. I login to the account with guild wars on it.. This is the case, as Wine doesn't install windows programs on the computer for all users, but in a directory of the users account.. So if you sister is on her account on your machine, but you don't want her to get access to your environment, you could permit her to do that, this way.. Again we typed: xhost + on the remote account, I type: export DISPLAY=:0.0 This tells the environment on the other account to use the active display to display X windows interfaces on.. So in this case we want to display Guild Wars on the active display, which is in my "tutorials" account.. I go looking around for the executable in "~/.wine" and then I type, in the appropriate directory "wine GW.exe", that executes guild wars, and sends the interface to my desktop display on my tutorials account. Now I can play guild wars, without switching to the other account, I can use only the piece I want.. Now this is quite risky, so if you are working in a secure environment, like at work, and you want to play guildwars there, you probably should read up on securing the x windows environment before doing this, but Whoop there it is..
