He says, "If you're lost -- if you know not Christ ... What should you do? Throw yourself upon Christ. Throw yourself upon Christ. Throw yourself upon Christ. Call on the name of the Lord and you will not be disappointed. Cry out, "Save me, O God. Save me." "When and where shall I do this, preacher?" Do it now. Do it where you're seated because you might not even live past another step or a breath. Do it now. Do it now." (Sermon, "True Gospel Part 2 -- What is the Gospel", June-28-2007. Quote begins at 1hr 24min 50sec) "Do, do, do" are clearly Washer's favorite words. Mixing grace and works are his expertise. Perhaps Washer should become a Roman Catholic priest (I hear there's a shortage in America of them at the moment). Certainly, he can't be a preacher of the Apostolic Gospel. Here's the Gospel that the apostles preached... 1 Corinthians 1 18 For the WORD OF THE CROSS is foolishness to those being lost, but to us being saved, IT IS THE POWER OF GOD. 24 but to the called out ones, both to Jews and to Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God; (Taken from JP Green's Literal Translation.) The Apostle Paul says that men are brought to life through the gospel -- not through their own striving, straining or doing. Now, why does Paul Washer demean and trash the truth as a useless thing? Why must we do something ON TOP of the truth to know we are justified? Is the truth of the gospel some common, useless thing that anyone can possess? Washer says so. He says... "If you're lost -- if you know not Christ -- you've heard a madman, you think. Then listen to the words of the madman. You know what I've said about you is true. We don't even have to argue that point. You know. Now, you might hate it -- that I don't know about your heart. But you know it's true. As a matter of fact, you know enough about its truth to know you hate it. You're not blind, except that you close your own eyes. What should you do?" (Sermon, "True Gospel Part 2 -- What is the Gospel", June-28-2007. Quote begins at 1hr 24min 50sec) Wow. So, apparently unbelievers already believe the gospel! They already "know it's true". And therefore the truth must be a common, redundant thing, according to Washer (people can go to the hell, with it in them!). Washer needs something ON TOP of the truth to give him confidence, peace and assurance with God. And to help his fellow "seekers" out, Washer raises the following question "What should YOU DO [to be saved]?". In other words, Washer's forced to imply, (to paraphrase him) "Well, since you unbelievers already possess the truth, What should you do, on top of the truth to gain confidence, peace and assurance before God?" Washer tells an unbeliever, "Dear woman, you have two choices. You can stop seeking him and go to hell. Or you can keep seeking him, until he finds thee." In other words, the woman must first seek -- she must strive for salvation by praying and humbling herself -- before God will save her. The woman must first BECOME GODLY BEFORE JUSTIFICATION. This is justification by our own godliness (which is actually wicked self-righteousness), and not the Righteousness of God -- the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ. Contrast Paul Washer with the Apostle Paul. Washer implies that, "to the one working, praying, seeking -- God will save them" The Apostle says, "Now to one working, the reward is not counted according to grace, but according to debt." (Rom 4:4) I.e. Romans 4:4 says that IF our own striving qualifies for salvation, THEN SALVATION IS NOT BY GRACE. If the woman's prayers in any way make her a better candidate for salvation, then GOD IS INDEBTED TO HER, AND OWES HER SALVATION. And in that case, salvation would not be a gift. Again... Washer implies that, "God justifies those who first become godly". The Apostle says, "But to the one NOT working, but believing on Him justifying the UNGODLY." (Rom 4:5) Clearly, man is completely passive in salvation -- he is ungodly when God justifies him. So it must be the IMPUTED RIGHTEOUSNESS of Christ that distinguishes one man from another in God's eyes. ___________________ Response to Fil (user "fvelilla") In his video he says that unbelievers must seek BEFORE faith in order to be saved. Here's my response... Hi Fil. Thanks for taking to the time to respond to my video. I appreciate it. I agree that all unbelievers are commanded to believe the gospel (Mk 1:15). You're right about that. However, the Bible NOWHERE tells unbelievers "how to get faith" or "how to prepare for salvation." Scripture doesn't teach works before faith -- works come AFTER it. This is why Washer is unbiblical. He -- on the other hand -- tells the young lady to DO THE WORK OF PRAYER in order to gain faith (see the quote in my video). The lady is told that she must "DO, DO, DO" (works) before God can give her faith. This makes the death of Christ void. (Gal 2:21). If the young lady must first do the work of seeking BEFORE Christ's Imputed Righteousness is given to her -- then all her comfort and joy will be based on her own seeking and NOT on Christ's Work. Think about it. It would be her work of seeking that would make the difference in the matter of salvation. She goes to heaven because she prayed and sought (according to Washer). Other people go to hell because they didn't seek and pray enough. This is Washer's gospel -- and it's a gospel where man gets the glory -- and God is only a PARTIAL Savior. Oh, and by the way -- regarding seeking in the Bible. Yes, there are many times the Bible says, "seek the Lord" etc. However, who are these exhortations given to? To believers! Here's one instance -- in the Sermon on the Mount... Notice that Christ is talking to his DISCIPLES (i.e. believers) when he says "seek first the kingdom of God"... Matt 5:1 [Jesus] went up into the mountain, and seating Himself, His disciples came near to Him. And opening His mouth, He taught them, saying ... Matt 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. (Less)

Washer says, "If you're sitting here and you're wondering whether you're not saved, or whether you are. Just envision for a moment. Stand beside a student you know to be an unbeliever. Are you like them? Do you have the same desires and concerns that they have? Do you dress the same way? Talk the same way? Is your morality the same? Is there no concern for God in your life just like there's no concern for God in theirs? Is the Word of God not have a place in your life at all? You ought to be very afraid. But if you're a struggling Christian and you put yourself beside that unbeliever and yes, you do see a difference, then rejoice." (Sermon, "How can you have Assurance", from 39:05). This flatly contradicts the Scripture. God says believers have "boldness and access in confidence through His faith" (Eph 3:12). True Assurance is based on the Truth/Promise/Testimony/Gospel of God which is believed in the mind. This infallible evidence is sufficient to give the believer assurance. After all, natural man is deprived of truth (1 Tim 6:5). So to possess the truth is a unique thing which for the elect alone. Hope you're well. Hope this verse helps... "How can they call on Him in whom they have not believed?" (Rom 10). That's logical. A sick person can't call the town doctor if they don't believe he exists! But unbelievers say in their heart, "there is no God", so they cannot call on God. And James says, "Ask IN FAITH". The lady did not have faith. So all her "asking" of God are mere echoes of what Washer tells her to say. She is a dumb parrot, not knowing the God she tries to honor with her lips. She is a blind woman talking about colors! Moreover, "He that comes to God MUST BELIEVE THAT HE IS and a Rewarder of them that diligently seek Him." (Heb 11:6) So, clearly the woman needed TO BELIEVE before she could pray! And this makes sense. If it's through faith that we understand who God is and what he's done -- then how can an unbeliever (without faith), know anything about God?! And can you call on someone you are ignorant of?! "They know not God", "are ignorant", "know nothing", are "brute beasts", "fools", "without knowledge". As Hosea said, "My people perish for lack of knowledge". Oh, and by the way, regarding Isaiah 55... It is easily explained by Acts 8:22... Unbelievers are to "REPENT and pray". So the change of mind (repentance) precedes the prayer. (Less)
