In this award winning adventure Micheal Wood embarks on a 2000 mile journey in the foot steps of Alexander's triumphal march from Greece to India. Travelling with Lebanese traders, Iranian pilgrims and Afghan guerillas, by jeep, train, boat, camel and on foot, he interweaves the momentous events of the past with present day reality and brings us new insights into a man whose myth and acheivements still resonate down the centuries
"We saw things I can scarcely believe. We took shelter for the night with an Afghan warlord who had delivered pizzas in the United States, and were hauled off to jail more than once. It was one of the great experiences of my life" - Michael Wood
On the afternoon of June 10--11, 323 B.C., Alexander died in the palace of Nebuchadrezzar II of Babylon. He was just one month short of attaining 33 years of age. Various theories have been proposed for the cause of his death which include poisoning by the sons of Antipater or others, sickness that followed a drinking party, or a relapse of the malaria he had contracted in 336 BC.
It is known that on May 29, Alexander participated in a banquet organized by his friend Medius of Larissa. After some heavy drinking, immediately before or after a bath, he was forced into bed due to severe illness. The rumors of his illness circulated with the troops causing them to be more and more anxious. On June 9, the generals decided to let the soldiers see their king alive one last time. They were admitted to his presence one at a time. Because the king was too ill to speak, he confined himself to moving his hand. The day after, Alexander was dead.
Cause
The poisoning theory derives from the story held in antiquity by Justin and Curtius. The original story stated that Cassander, son of Antipater, viceroy of Greece, brought the poison to Alexander in Babylon in a mule's hoof, and that Alexander's royal cupbearer, Iollas, brother of Cassander, administered it. Many had powerful motivations for seeing Alexander gone, and were none the worse for it after his death. Deadly agents that could have killed Alexander in one or more doses include hellebore and strychnine. In R. Lane Fox's opinion, the strongest argument against the poison theory is the fact that twelve days had passed between the start of his illness and his death and in the ancient world, such long-acting poisons were probably not available.
The warrior culture of Macedon favoured the sword over strychnine, and many ancient historians, like Plutarch and Arrian, maintained that Alexander was not poisoned, but died of natural causes. Instead, it is likely that Alexander died of malaria or typhoid fever, which were rampant in ancient Babylon. Other illnesses could have also been the culprit, including acute pancreatitis or the West Nile virus[20]. Recently, theories have been advanced stating that Alexander may have died from the treatment not the disease. Hellebore, believed to have been widely used as a medicine at the time but deadly in large doses, may have been overused by the impatient king to speed his recovery, with deadly results. Disease-related theories often cite the fact that Alexander's health had fallen to dangerously low levels after years of heavy drinking and suffering several appalling wounds (including one in India that nearly claimed his life), and that it was only a matter of time before one sickness or another finally killed him.
No story is conclusive. Alexander's death has been reinterpreted many times over the centuries, and each generation offers a new take on it. What is certain is that Alexander died of a high fever on June 10 or 11 of 323 BC.

Come from Edessa to Antioch,
in the new city unknown,
he continues his composition.
At last it is done.
Eighty-three minted poems in all!
Such labour! Such intensity!
The weary lyrist is wrung,
his talent worn,
his head too full of words.
And it all seems so worthless,
all that effort wasted.
Then a sudden thought lightens his mood.
He imagines them saying
'There goes the man, that's him, the poet.'
- Like words to those the scribbler Lucian heard
as he lay dreaming.
22. KING DEMETRIOS
Abandoned by the Macedonians
who favoured his rival Pyrros,
noble Demetrios
didn't react like a king.
He simply slid out of his golden robes,
kicked off the royal purple shoes.
Dressed as a commoner, he left at once
like an actor when the play is done
changing out of his costume,
slipping away down the street.
23. THE OLD TOWN
You said: 'I'll emigrate,
find somewhere better than this.
Whatever i do turns sour.
I feel as if entombed.
I'll not stay here and rot away.
Here, my life is ruined,
my years run uselessly into the sand.'
You will not find another country
nor sail an unknown sea.
This town will dog you everywhere;
to whichever place you journey
our faded streets will follow.
You will age in these same districts,
turn grey in similar houses.
In your wanderings you will always end up here.
You spoiled your life in this crumbling town:
so it will be wherever you go.
24. THE PROVINCE (SATRAPY)
How awful, that you,
so noble, so accomplished,
never get a chance to prove yourself
in a fulfilling manner.
Vulgar people stand in your way,
the mean and the indifferent.
It will be a sorry day
when you disregard your higher principles
and set out for Susa
and the court of Artaxerxes, the Great King.
Of course, he will take you in,
offer you the governance of some province -
all that sort of thing.
So demeaning! Not at all what you deserve.
Despairing, you will feel you have to accede.
Your intellect was formed for better things:
the acclamations of the people,
the praise of the philosophers,
the senate, the public stage,
crowned with crowns of laurel.
- You won't get these from Artaxerxes
or from governing some huge province.
Without them, how you will droop
in an unfit setting.
25. IDES OF MARCH
I mustn't get above myself.
If I cannot curb ambition
I'll be extra vigilant
the higher I ascend
the greasy pole.
And when I get to the top -
leader of the Roman state -
assuming that persona,
I shall be very careful
going out in public
surrounded by my retinue.
Should Artemidoros,
who cautioned Julius Caesar,
or somebody like him
thrust a letter into my hand, saying
(as he said to him)
'Read this at once and heed my warning'
- I will scrutinise his paper in minute detail
disregarding people pressing to see me,
disregarding even vital business.
I will ignore the sycophants;
the senate itself will have to wait
- all those noble and learned gentlemen -
While I carefully study Artemidoros's words.
26. THE GOD ABANDONS ANTONY
At the ghostly midnight hour
you sense an unseen procession,
a mystic train sweeping onwards
past you.
Accompanied by melodious voices
you hear a thrilling music:
the sound of waves on a deserted beach
drenched in bright white moonlight;
the whisper of star to star
along galactic highways.
At last your luck's run out.
All you made and did is turned to water
trickling away through illusory hands
held out in supplication. Do not despair.
You're ready. You have courage.
Whisper 'farewell' to Alexandria. She is passing.
Don't choose the prosaic option. Do not say
the music was a dream, that you imagined voices.
- That would just be silly.
You are ready. You have your courage.
You were worthy of this great city.
Step to the window. Go out upon the balcony.
Listen, with responding deep emotion
which sets aside all carping, any whining,
to that precious fading melody,
to the voices of the unseen company;
and say goodbye; farewell to Alexandria
who is leaving.
The photographs are of Cavafy's flat in Rue Lepsius, taken while the poet was alive and in residence. They come from the first edition of 'Cavafy a critical biography' published by Gerald Duckworth & Co Ltd in 1974. (It has recently been reprinted as a paperback but without the wonderfully evocative photographs.)
The music accompanying 'The God Abandons Antony' is from 'The Pines of Rome' by Respighi, the second movement 'Pines Near A Catacomb'. (Less)

Jack Russell Terrier
"The Jack Russell Terrier is a type (or landrace) of small, principally white-bodied, smooth or rough-coated terrier that has its origins in fox hunting. The name "Jack Russell" has been used to describe a wide array of small white terriers, but is now most commonly used to describe a working terrier. The Jack Russell Terrier is commonly confused with the Parson Russell Terrier or Russell Terrier, which are very similar to the Jack Russell.
History
----------
Small white fox-working terriers were bred by the Reverend John Russell, a parson and hunting enthusiast born in 1795. In his last year of university at Oxford, he bought a small white and tan terrier female called Trump from the milk man. Trump was purchased based upon appearance alone. (Burns, 2005) She was the basis for a breeding program to develop a terrier with high stamina for the hunt as well as the courage and formation to chase out foxes that had gone to ground, but without the aggressiveness that would result in physical harm to the fox, which would have ended the chase, and so was considered unsporting. The line of terriers, developed by John Russell, was well respected for these qualities and his dogs were often taken on by hunt enthusiasts. It is unlikely, however, that any dogs alive today are descended from Trump, as Russell was forced to sell all of his dogs on more than one occasion because of financial difficulty, and had only four aged (and nonbreeding) terriers left when he died in 1883. (Burns, 2005)
The only painting that exists of Trump was painted more than 40 years after the dog died, and it was painted by someone whom had never seen the original animal. Russell said the painting was "a good likeness" but in fact he may have been trying to be polite. The painting was commissioned by Edward VII (then Prince of Wales) who befriended Russell in his old age, and had the painting done as an homage to the old man. (Burns, 2005)
On the day that the impoverished Rev. John Russell died, his old sermons and other papers were found blowing around in the farm yard. Little or no written record of Rev. John Russell survives to the present day.
While it is often stated that Trump was "14 inches tall and weighed 14 pounds," there is no source for this statement, and it appears to have been penned by someone who had never met Russell and had only seen the painting of Trump (to which there is nothing to suggest scale). (Burns, 2005)
While Trump's appearance is murky, and her size a complete mystery, the fox dens of Devon, England, where John Russell once hunted, are well known. Terrierman Eddie Chapman, who has hunted those same Devon earths for more than 30 years, notes that "I can state categorically that if given the choice, ninety-nine percent of hunt terrier men would buy an under 12" worker, if it was available, over a 14" one." (Chapman, 1994). To this day most working terrier enthusiast seem to prefer a dog around 12 inches tall."

In addition to Jeff Christie (born Jeffrey Christie, 12 July 1946, Leeds, Yorkshire, England) - vocalist, bassist and songwriter; they initially included guitarist Vic Elmes and drummer Mike Blakely (born Michael Blakely, 12 January 1947, Bromley, Kent, England) who is the younger brother of The Tremeloes' Alan Blakely. Jeff Christie had initially worked with several bands including The Outer Limits, who released "Just One More Chance"/"Help Me Please" (1967) and "Great Train Robbery"/"Sweet Freedom" (1968), and Acid Gallery, whose single "Dance Around The Maypole" (1969) was written by Roy Wood. That year Jeff Christie offered his composition "Yellow River" to The Tremeloes. They recorded it to release as a single, but when they changed their minds they allowed Christie to use the backing track themselves. The result was a UK number one hit in May 1970, and subsequently #23 in the U.S., also accumulating more weeks (23) on the Hot 100 than any other entry on that chart completely inside 1970. The follow-up single from October 1970, "San Bernadino" (misspelled if referring to, for example, San Bernardino, California), reached UK Number 7 and Number 1 in Germany, but only U.S. #100. Both tracks became flash songs on their eponymous debut album of that year, and it stayed on U.S. Billboard chart for ten weeks. But the trio failed to sustain a lasting career, and Blakley was replaced by Paul Fenton just before the release of the band's second album, For All Mankind (1971). Lem Lubin (ex-Unit Four Plus Two) was added to the line-up for Iron Horse (1972), but the title track proved to be the band's final hit single. The departure of Fenton and Lubin hastened the demise of the original line-up, but Jeff Christie returned with new members Terry Fogg (drums), Roger Flavell (bass), and Danny Krieger (guitar). A 1974 single "Alabama"/"I'm Alive" failed to resurrect the band's fortunes, and new members Tony Ferguson (guitar) and Roger Willis (drums) were brought in to join Christie and Flavell. Jeff Christie disbanded the group in 1976. He released two solo singles for the RK label in 1980, and since then has written advertising jingles and appear on classic hits shows singing his greatest hits. "Jo Jo's Band", written by Elmes, was a chart-topper in Argentina and Brazil, while the last Christie hit, "Navajo", was Number 1 in Mexico. Jeff Christie reformed the band in 1990 with members of UK band Tubeless Hearts, Kev Moore, Simon Kay and Adrian 'Fos' Foster. They tried to represent United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest 1991, but were unsuccessful. They continued to tour for a further twelve years all over Europe, Russia and Israel, recording intermittently. (Less)

(Less)

Illegal Immigration & Amnesty Supporters Endorse McCain for President!
February 4, 2008
CONTACT: ALIPAC, press@alipac.us, (866) 329-3999
In defiance of the polling data on illegal immigration and GOP voters, the nation is led to believe that John McCain is poised to win a close race against Mitt Romney in tomorrow's primary voting on "Super Tuesday", in what will be heralded as a public mandate for amnesty, if McCain wins.
Geraldo Rivera and Juan Hernandez, two of the most flagrant supporters of illegal immigration and amnesty in the media, have both announced their support for McCain. The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) also known as the Council of the (Hispanic) Race has announced their positive feelings for McCain, while labeling any group or personality in the media opposed to amnesty as an ally of the KKK.
Even Ruben Navarrette, a CNN columnist, who constantly rants in support of illegal immigration, while slinging mud at anyone who stands up for immigration enforcement, loves John McCain.
"Supposedly, three US Senate incumbents who are DC insiders are the favorite pick of voters at a time when the American public is outraged at the DC status quo," says William Gheen of ALIPAC. "The McClintObama 'front runners' in the primary would suggest that Americans are happy with the Congress, supportive of Amnesty, and feel that the Washington insiders have led the nation in the right direction on issues such as the War, the economy, and illegal immigration."
Recent polls have shown historic readings showing more Americans feel the nation is on the wrong track than ever before, while showing approval levels for Congress at historic lows.
While the anti-illegal immigration GOP voters are split between Romney, Huckabee, and Paul, many are starting to coalesce around the Romney campaign, in a last ditch effort to stop John McCain. The fact that Huckabee is attacking Romney leads many to believe he has cut a deal with McCain to stay in the race and play the role of political spoiler.
"Every major illegal immigration supporter is signaling they want McCain to win the GOP primary," says William Gheen. "If that happens tomorrow, it will be final proof that America's political system has become a multi-million dollar charade. It is hard to picture the political anarchy that will follow, if the 80% of Americans who oppose illegal immigration and amnesty find themselves trapped in a choice between a Democrat like Clinton and Obama, or a Republican like McCain which all stand for the same thing, especially on the immigration issue. The McClintObama scenario is a national train wreck in motion!"
ALIPAC released an article over the weekend titled "McClintObama Amnesty Plan: 20 million illegal alien voters by 2010", which now appears on over 1,000 websites. A copy can be viewed at http://www.alipac.us/article-2920-thread-1-0.html

SHIKI and I grinned and that was our que!
Shikis:Happy Birthday Akiha!!!
Akiha was smiling from ear to ear.
Akiha:Oh you two Remembered!!!
She gave each of us a hug headed down the hall. Akiha seemed to have a slight bounce in her step as she entered the elevator..
SHIKI: Why are you so worried? Are you afraid something is going to happen to Akiha?
Shiki:No that's not really it.. Its ju-
A click was heard...
????:KYAAAA!!! a cockroach!
Wait I recognize that monotone scream..
SHIKI:THAT WAS AKIHA!!
Oh god her we go again...
Shiki: We have been over this before!!!
THAT IS A RECORDING!!!!MY GOD ARE YOU REALLY THAT DENSE?!
Damn it hasn't been that long since the mini story has it?! (Forth wall broken)
SHIKI:One of us needs to protect Akiha you coldhea-
Shiki: Agh forget it I'm leaving...
This guy hasn't changed a bit since last year! I planted one foot on the window sill not to far of a jump if I land on the awning...
Shiki: See you later SHIKI
SHIKI: You too I'M COMING AKIHA!!!
As I jumped down from the second floor of the hotel the hollow sound of a frying pan smashing onto a hard object and Kohaku's joyous laughter filled the air...So lets see what I can do...Akiha would be at the Asagami Private Girls Academy for the majority of the day... and SHIKI probably forgot to get Akiha a present...might as well cover his ass...this is going to be so boring....
+++++++++++++++++++++++++
Arihiko:Geeze it's been a year how have you been?
Me and Arihiko had met by the bench in the local playground where I always used to sit
Shiki:Pretty well how about you?
Arihiko: Not particularly well Satsuki has gone missing all of a sudden...
Ahh thats right Arihiko was trying to go out with Satsuki and well apparently she had fallen for him...
Shiki: I think she is visiting relatives....
Well actually Satsuki had just finished treatment at the organization's medical center and was and we should see her in about a day if I remember what the doctor said correctly...we pasted time just chatting catching what I missed...
Arihiko looked at his watch
Arihiko: Agh great I've got to go Nice seeing you again!
Shiki:Yeah you too Arihiko!
I then stay at the piers to watch the boats when I heard someone approaching...
????:Shiki Tohno?
I turned around...Crap!I responded so saying I'm some one else won't work and SHIKI is unavailable to play scapegoat ...Ah to hell with it!
Shiki:...Yes....and you are....?
????: You'll find out sooner or later..
Her hair and her clothing were of the same dark shade an unnatural looking black. Is that some sort of fashion statement nowadays? Wait are those-
A sharp pain in my chest interrupted my train of thought...they were. Claws...the pain was unbearable I looked up at the woman she had an unbearably smug look on her face...
????:Well I hope you'll provide a better challenge than the last aberration* I faced...
Could she have forced the switch?! No time to think about it...I drew my knife...I had some time to kill...
*Aberration in this context refers any non-human and although Shiki is human Nanaya's movement patterns would suggest otherwise to most people possibly even other demon hunters!

Match 1-
Yup another Satsujinki vs Arcueid Video only this time I plan on keeping the actual character (WHO IS NOT ARCUEID) alive for more than one video :P
Arcueid by Kuro
My god she has to be the most broken character I have faced in a while! She made my Mugen crash 2 out of every 3 times I tried to record! Does she deserve fair treatment? HELL NO!!!
LvL5 AI's ARE CRAP
- Broken super combos which take off half of your health
- Uber Broken Shielding
- Crazy damage
- Chain grapples you
-If you win with over half heath she stays permanently red
-RED MODE IS BROKEN AS A MOTHER...cow..
- Infinite Super while red
- ANNOYING DEFENSE WHILE RED!!!
- Almost all attacks are classified as projectiles so Parries are made 100% harder if not impossible
- Combo rapes you to no end
-Spams arc drives during arc drives
-Pulls off insta-killer last arcs
-Can go red at random
- Block whore
- Impossible to naturally counter because several of her attacks are not connected to her allowing her to continue the attack even if she is knocked down
Weaknesses
-Because she blocks in mid air multi hit attacks and air grapple are your friends
-High damage attacks work wonders
-Won't stay Red if you win with below half health
-OHKO in the second round will save you a lot of trouble....
Match two:
About time I got to doing this huh? After admiring her AI and other people play with her I finally decided to add her to the team...sadly the physics in mugen screwed me up badly (Less)
