For deep in the belly of this small state, Behind the Chestnut Hill Baptist Church in the town of Exeter, lies the grave of New Englandâs most famous vampire, Mercy Brown. No longer is this fear summoned by the belief in souls rising from the grave though. The telling Mercyâs story has become a long-lived RI tradition. A tradition that combines true local history told in the customary fireside style with a late October night visit to the site where this unusual story took place. Some who have braved these moonlit adventures have returned with tales of strange and frightening experiences. So stoke the fire, turn off the lights and curl up in the easy chair as we roll back the clock to the late 1800âs. George T. Brown was a well respected farmer in Exeter RI. In December 1883 he lost his wife Mary Eliza to consumption. He was given little time to recover from this horrible tragedy when the same disease took his 20-year-old daughter Mary Olive 6 months later. Several years passed and Georgeâs streak of misfortune had seemed to come to an end. His only son Edwin and several daughters all were healthy and strong. Edwin was living in Wickford RI and working as a store clerk when he suddenly became to show signs of consumption. Worried George immediately took Edwin to a doctor. If he too had contracted consumption it would sure lead to death. Edwin traveled to west to Colorado Springs hoping to find a cure in the mineral waters. While Edwin was away Georgeâs daughter Mercy Lena had also contracted the "galloping" variety of consumption. She quickly passed away in January of 1892. Her body was stored in the stone crypt awaiting burial after the spring thaw. Several months later Edwin returned to his family. He had been diagnosed with consumption and his health had made a turn for the worse. At this point, family and friends concluded that the deaths were the result of a vampire and this daemon was living in one of the Brown graves. George decided to turn to an old folk remedy. With the help of Harold Metcalf, a doctor from Wickford, they exhumed the bodies of Mary Eliza, Mary Olive and Mercy Lena to find if any of them were vampires. Mary Eliza and Mary Oliveâs bodies had already returned to the earth. Only the skeleton remained. However, Mercy Lena who had only been buried a few months earlier seemed in excellent condition. When they examined her heart, they found what they interrupted as fresh blood. Though Dr. Metcalf assured them that this unexceptional, they felt they had found the daemon. They proceeded to remove her heart and burn it to ashes on a rock nearby. The ashes were mixed in water and consumed by Edwinâs as a medicine for his illness. Unfortunately this didnât prevent Edwin from passing away 2 months later. To this day people have reported experiencing a variety of strange phenomena withinâ the walls of this cemetery. Many witnesses who were interview claimed to have seen the ghost of Mercy strolling through the graveyard on a moonlit night. Others report having heard the crying of a young woman or seeing a bright blue light near Mercy Brown's tombstone. Most people who have visited Mercyâs grave tell of sensing a presence nearby. Feeling as if they are being watched. Whether these experiences were due to heightened emotions or restless spirits, no one can be sure. One thing I can say is that no matter what your beliefs are, an evening visit to Mercyâs grave will send shivers up your spine and scare up some fond memories for you and your friends. Historic Cemetery #22 is off of Victory Highway (RT#102) in Exeter RI. The church and graveyard look like a scene out of the past. Walking down the dirt road into the cemetery, youâll see the tombstone of William C. Johnson to your right. Cut through the stone, just above what looks like a book, youâll see a square. From this square you can spy Mercyâs grave left of the road and to the right of a pine tree. Some locals have said that if you hide behind this grave on a moon lit night in October and watch her grave through this square; with silence and patient, you maybe lucky and witness Mercy taking a ghostly stroll through the graveyard. For the more adventurous, some version of the tale say that you have to knock 3 times on her grave and say âMercy L. Brown are you a vampire?â and Mercy will speak or appear to you. I havenât heard any stories from those who have tried this method yet. Iâm sure there are some interesting tales yet to be uncovered. The park is open to the public year round, dawn to dusk. If you do decide to visit Mercyâs grave, please keep these thing in mind. Donât go alone. Always have a good flashlight and a second set of batteries. Keep your car keys easily available. Most of all though, please respect the property and the dead so others can continue to enjoy this bizarre bit of Rhode Island History. ~Strange N.E. (Less) Channel: metacafe

However, there are lots of different opinions as to when that happened exactly, and the datings offered are scattered over the range of five hundred years. Some claim Rome to have been founded by Aeneas and Ulysses shortly after Troy had fallen; others are of the opinion that there was an entire dynasty that ruled for 400 years between the fall of Troy and the foundation of Rome. What do modern historians really say about the correct chronology of the Ancient Rome when they do not have to produce textbook-friendly output? The following: "Neither Diodorus nor Livy possess a correct chronology . . . we cannot trust the fasti, which tell us nothing about who was made consul in which year, or the cloth writings that led Licinius Marcus and Tubero to contradictory conclusions. The most trustworthy documentation is the kind that turns out to be much more recent forgeries after in-depth analysis".
Due to the controversy and the dubiety of all these mediaeval computations, the "Genesis dating", for instance, varies greatly from document to document. This temporal reference point, considered fundamental for the ancient chronology, fluctuates within the span of 2,100 years. It is expedient to know that there are about two hundred various versions of the "Genesis date" in existence.alaska greenland Scotland berlin paris milan florence marco polo film 1100's 1200's 1300's 1400's 1500's 1600's 1700's 1800's 1900's mission documentary video norway sweden oslo stockholm amsterdam glasgo noble nobility viking history chronicle science research museum historical evolution archaeology story of the year taboo stories journey to the past past lives today in history easter the history channel creation vs evolution of man ancient chinese italian american greek roman criminal lutheran baptist crucifixion spain italy britain prussia denmark math maths geometry ethics logic day in history world town natural city witchcraft cyprus iran zodiac stars punishment military capital politics immigrant money women men man woman inventions architecture islam orthodox herodotus shakespeare magazine tablet commandments fashion protection life ancient history rome greece egypt jesus caesar bible gospel judas dan brown da vinci channel today pyramid cleopatra nefertiti pharaoh moses story gnostic conspiracy masonic historical cabal war campaign biblical medieval china india burma jerusalem illuminati timeline conspiracy english french roman battle fight priam hector troy bow sword sea arrow ship weapon helene horse race king tartars logic fact victory russia germany scribe america france england romanov plantagenet tudors windsor da vinci historical biblical edifice evolution german etruscan russian astronomy mongols baron crusade empire gothic culture gun sword map star victory virgin oil bread grain agriculture cows heathen vagrant barbarian torture habit cloth cloak dagger painting paint castle palace river babylon human geography clock time measure astrology gods english apocalypse apostle greek roman egyptian manuscript book monument art writing house building forum latin sham catholic protestant service book religion pope cult genghis khan alexander napoleon hitler caesar horde army hannibal elephant church inquisition bacchic jesuit fake hoax king prince duke emperor kingdom dark age orthodox sun moon planet venus earth mars jupiter saturn mercury voyage sail lance sabre stirrup saddle discovery papiri library tsar president prince lady beauty queen goddess archaeology geology medecine chemistry plague mathematics statistics alphabet science research sacred rites melody bronze tin iron copper steel marble concrete stone wood pine oak vessel amphora oxen white black red yellow blue green pasture hunt hunter fire lion dog tiger hawk knife fork hygiene soap linen fabric colour politics modern view review miracle show secret history alabama arizona arkansas california colorado connecticut delaware florida georgia hawaii idaho illinois indiana iowa ansas kentucky louisiana maine maryland massachusets michigan minnesota misisippi missouri montana nebraska nevada new hamshire jersey mexico york nothr carolina dakota ohio oklahoma oregon pensilvania rhodeisland south tenessee texas utah vermont virginia west wisconsin wyoming hampton pittsburgh harrisburg acapulco hartford plymouth havana akron portland albany albuquerque portsmouth hollywood honolulu

However, there (More) Traditional history vs modern astronomy: who shall win? The Russian mathematician Anatoly Fomenko was the first to have questioned the validity of global chronology in its entirety. However, there were criticisms of the chronological tradition that became consensual nowadays ever since the days of its creation in the 16th 17th century, and the list of the critics includes such names as Jean Hardouin, Edwin Johnson, Sir Isaac Newton. Apparently, all of the "ancient" eclipses allegedly belonging to the period between 1000 BC and five hundred AD that have with detailed descriptions allowing for astronomical datings get verifiable valid dates from a much later epoch, namely, the interval between 500 and 1700 AD. The old concepts of time were substantially different from modern ones.
"Before the 13-14th century the devices for time measurement were a rarity and a luxury. Even the scientists didn't always possess them. The Englishman Valcherius... was lamenting the lack of a clock that
afflicted the precision of his observations of a lunar eclipse in 1091.
"The clocks common for mediaeval Europe were sundials, hourglasses, and water clocks, or clepsydrae.
However, sundials only were of use when the weather was good, and the clepsydrae remained a scarcity"
In the end of the 9th century a.d., candles were widely used for timekeeping. "The monks kept count of time by the amount of holy book pages or psalms they could read in between two observations of the sky...
For the majority, the main timekeeping medium was the tolling of the church bells". One is to bear in mind that astronomical observations require a chronometer that possesses a second hand, while we learn that "even after the discovery and the propagation of mechanical chronometers in Europe, they had been lacking the minute hand till 1550".alaska greenland Scotland berlin paris milan florence marco polo film 1100's 1200's 1300's 1400's 1500's 1600's 1700's 1800's 1900's mission documentary video norway sweden oslo stockholm amsterdam glasgo noble nobility viking history chronicle science research museum historical evolution archaeology story of the year taboo stories journey to the past past lives today in history easter the history channel creation vs evolution of man ancient chinese italian american greek roman criminal lutheran baptist crucifixion spain italy britain prussia denmark math maths geometry ethics logic day in history world town natural city witchcraft cyprus iran zodiac stars punishment military capital politics immigrant money women men man woman inventions architecture islam orthodox herodotus shakespeare magazine tablet commandments fashion protection life ancient history rome greece egypt jesus caesar bible gospel judas dan brown da vinci channel today pyramid cleopatra nefertiti pharaoh moses story gnostic conspiracy masonic historical cabal war campaign biblical medieval china india burma jerusalem illuminati timeline conspiracy english french roman battle fight priam hector troy bow sword sea arrow ship weapon helene horse race king tartars logic fact victory russia germany scribe america france england romanov plantagenet tudors windsor da vinci historical biblical edifice evolution german etruscan russian astronomy mongols baron crusade empire gothic culture gun sword map star victory virgin oil bread grain agriculture cows heathen vagrant barbarian torture habit cloth cloak dagger painting paint castle palace river babylon human geography clock time measure astrology gods english apocalypse apostle greek roman egyptian manuscript book monument art writing house building forum latin sham catholic protestant service book religion pope cult genghis khan alexander napoleon hitler caesar horde army hannibal elephant church inquisition bacchic jesuit fake hoax king prince duke emperor kingdom dark age orthodox sun moon planet venus earth mars jupiter saturn mercury voyage sail lance sabre stirrup saddle discovery papiri library tsar president prince lady beauty queen goddess archaeology geology medecine chemistry plague mathematics statistics alphabet science research sacred rites melody bronze tin iron copper steel marble concrete stone wood pine oak vessel amphora oxen white black red yellow blue green pasture hunt hunter fire lion dog tiger hawk knife fork hygiene soap linen fabric colour politics modern view review miracle show secret history alabama arizona arkansas california colorado connecticut delaware florida georgia hawaii idaho illinois indiana iowa ansas kentucky louisiana maine maryland massachusets michigan minnesota misisippi missouri montana nebraska nevada new hamshire jersey mexico york nothr carolina dakota ohio oklahoma oregon pensilvania rhodeisland south tenessee texas utah vermont virginia west wisconsin wyoming (Less) Channel: youtube

richard gere live in the making of a movie called Hachiko
American actor Richard Gere will star in and produce "Hachiko: A Dog's Story," a drama based on the true story of the beloved Japanese akita Hachiko.
In "Hachiko: A Dog's Story", Gere will play a college professor who takes in a dog he finds abandoned. Both man and dog find their lives changed forever as they form an unbreakable bond. The project is based on a true story of the dog immortalized in the statue outside of Shibuya station in Tokyo, and inspired by the 1987 Japanese film "Hachiko monogatari."
The movie will be produced in association with Japanese movie studio Shochiku and is scheduled for release in America in 2008.
Each year on April 8th at a solemn ceremony in Tokyo's Shibuya railroad station, hundreds of dog lovers do homage to the loyalty and devotion of an Akita dog, Hachiko, faithful pet of Dr. Eisaburo Ueno, a professor at Tokyo University.
Hachiko was born in Odate, Japan in November 1923, a white male Akita dog. At the age of two months, he was sent to the home of Professor Ueno of the Agricultural Department of the Tokyo University. The professor's home was in the Shibuya district of Tokyo. The professor commuted to the agricultural department in Komaba and the agricultural experimental station in Nishihara.
Tragedy struck on May 21, 1925, when Dr. Ueno did not return because he had suffered a stroke and died at the university. Hachiko was eighteen months old. The next day and for the next nine years, Hachiko returned to the station and waited for his beloved master before walking home, alone. Nothing and no one could discourage Hachiko from maintaining his nightly vigil. It was not until he followed his master in death, in March l934, that Hachiko failed to appear in his place at the railroad station.
Hachiko was sent to homes of relatives or friends, but he always continued to await his master, who was never to return, at the train station.
The fidelity of Hachiko was known throughout Japan, owing to an article, "Faithful Old Dog Awaits Return of Master Dead for Seven Years" in the October 4, 1933 issue of Aashi Shinbun (Asahi News). Upon his death, newspaper stories led to the suggestion that a statue be erected in the station. Contributions the from the United States and other countries were received. Today, the statue of the Akita, Hachiko, pays silent tribute to the breed's faithfulness and loyalty. A bronze statue of Hachiko was put up at his waiting spot outside the Shibuya railroad station, which is now probably the most popular rendezvous point in Shibuya. Hachiko was mounted and stuffed and is on now on display at the Tokyo Museum of Art. (Less) Channel: youtube
