I backed up and took a deep breath. "Jeeze Charly! Give me a heartattack why don't you?" I said sarcastically, catching my breath and leaning against a wall. Charly rolled her aqua blue eyes that didn't look as worn out as the first time I remembered seeing them a year ago. "Uh-uh, well I wasn't the one who looks like she just ran a 50 mile marathon.." I grabbed her hand and dragged her down the stairs, not bothering to explain. I knew Desi was spending the wekend at Sophie's, so I was stealing Charly. "Where in the world are we going?" We made it to my car by the time she asked this. I shoved her in the passenger's seat and drove away. It took all of one minute. I was in a rush. "Uh, somewhere. I kind of have a surprise for you." I said, pretending to focus on the driving. Charly didn't say anything else, but turned on the radio. It usually wasn't off, but I was talking to Ryan when I had gotten into the car last. We drove for 20 minutes through the New York traffic, and I found myself racing the time. It was getting too close to midnight for me... I sighed as I came to a sreeching halt infront of a nice row house near the edge of Manhatten. It was at least a hundred years old, with amazing re-finished brick and a small front garden. Charly gasped, getting out. The house had a sold sign infront of it. I got out and stood beside Charly. Then she looked at me and laughed. "I was wondering what was taking you so long!" I laughed too. She thought I was an endless supply of money. Believe it or not, I had to save for a while to get this house. Okay, a month, but still... "Yeah, Yeah, go check it out. The real estate guy should still be in there. I only had till midnight." She smiled at me and ran into the house like a little girl. Charly LOVED the house. It was like a birthday present for her; she turned 22 a few weeks ago. And she thought I forgot. Ha.. okay, maybe I did. For a while! But I remembered in the end. It was a huge house actually. I took over the attic. The whole fourth floor had slanted ceilings and a huge window and window seat. It covered the whole top floor and had a bathroom, so I was set. I would live here. Before, I lived with Sophie part time, but that was difficult because she had moved into Wyckoff and she spent every day at the Jonas's. Sure it was great when Kevin and Joe were there, but I NEVER went when Nick was there. We went back to Charly's old apartment to start sorting through the massive stacks of things she has. She's such a pack-rat. "So, when are we moving in..?" She asked, anxious. I threw a photo album by her feet. "Go through that... next week I think he said. I want to get int here a.s.a.p. No offence. This place is crap." She laughed and picked up the photoalbum, opening it to the first page. She stopped and looked up at me. "Maybe you don't want to go through this." I shoved some things out of the way and sat beside her. "What are you talking about, of course I-..." I stopped, peering down at all of the pictures of ..him.. on the first page alone. All of the sudden, every single barrier I had put up and renforced over the last year fell down, at the sight of those eyes. I don't know why that didn't happen when I saw him, at the party, but maybe it was just seeing him so much in one day. But at the sight of this picture, our first day of school, it made me want to be there again. With him. I picked up the photo album and threw it across the room. Nick, I seemed to scream in my head, I need you. With me. Charly held my hand, trying to pull me back down on the couch. But tears were already falling. "Nicole! Where are you going?" She yelled after me, as I ran out of the apartment. Truth is, I had no idea where I was going. But the memories flooded back into my head, from the concert when I saw him for first time after two years, all up until when I had been attacked; succumbed to the darkness. I got into my car and took a deep breath. I drove anywhere. I had no idea where I was headed, but I ended up on the way to New Jersey. I drove for half an hour and ended up at the peir. I stared out at the most amazing veiw. I loved this place. I always came here to think. I leaned over the railing, looking at the city that never sleeps. From no where, I heard footsteps behind me. I groaned. I knew Charly would come looking for me. "Go away Charl.." I muttered. But the footsteps moved closer, and it didn't sound like Charly. They were heavier; Charly was only 100 pounds. She was tiny and that definetly was not her. All of the sudden, I was terrified again. It reminded me of something that happened a year ago. (Less)
