Some of our mutual friends had just found it... the only problem was that you had to get into a construction site to skate it. If something is worth skating, you do what you gotta do. One word to all my fellow skaters when it comes to skating on construction sites: DON'T FUCK WITH THEIR EQUIPMENT. Seriously, the bulldozers and other big yellow monsters on wheels are really expensive, don't play on 'em. Treat temporary spots with respect, that's how you keep them. Also, like in this video, if a contractor (or business owner) busts you and is being chill, be chill back and act polite and nice. Just by doing that, you run the chance of having a better shot at skating that same spot in the future, because the property owners can see that you're good people.I always bring a broom, too... although it didn't work in this clip, I've had business owners allow me to stay because they were stoked on the fact that I was leaving the place cleaner than it was when I got there. No shit. Another thing that failed here was me trying to bribe the guy with a "...case of Coronas." I always offer a case of Coronas, not because Corona is an especially good beer, but because it's unexpected and kind of throws people off. Sometimes it works, too... if anyone's seen the video clip I have up of me riding my board up an escalator, that was all put together because of a case of Corona. Now, if a business person, contractor, or security guard comes at you hard and gets in your face, stand up for yourself, but leave. If they give you hell, give it back, but do so while evacuating. Most of the time though, if you come across as passive and nice, your skatespot busts will be drama free. Don't ever be a dick to the cops though... especially if the cop comes across as a skater-hater. Some of those dudes will arrest you for anything, just because they have a badge and no self esteem. No spot is worth getting arrested over, and you don't want to give a buzz-cut with an attitude a reason to bring you in. Some dudes in uniform get off on that, and we don't need to feed them that satisfaction. Just remember that skateboarding is all about the fun, nothing more... even getting busted from a spot can be fun. Getting kicked out of places is part of what makes skateboarding so great... I mean, who else gets kicked out of parking lots? Not your grandma, not the beggars, pretty much just the drunks and skaters (and I guess the occasional drunk skaters). Me: "Hey Bob, what'd you do this weekend, man?" Bob: "Oh you know, I washed the dog on Saturday and then Sunday I sat on my ass and watched the big game. What did you do?" Me: "Bob, your life sucks. Saturday I smashed my ribs into some coping on a six foot concrete transition, and then Sunday I was skating a slab in what looked like a nuclear wasteland, but then I got kicked off the property by a contractor, so I left, smoked a bunch of cigarettes, and did nose manuals in front of an empty ice cream shop, 'cause nobody wants ice cream in the middle of the winter right after a rain. I think I hate you, Bob. You're my age and you just totally gave up on living? GARGLE SOME HOT TAR, THERE BOBBY." (Less)
