From the Anuna web site: Michael McGlynn founded An Uaithne in 1987. "My original idea was to create something that would make people aware of the beauty of choral music by introducing it to them in a way that they could understand. I started singing in choirs at the age of 19, and I couldn't believe that something so beautiful existed that I had never heard of before. I think that I got the sound of Anúna into my head right back on the first day I started singing with other voices for the first time. I had just begun composing at that time and I found that An Uaithne offered me a chance to have my own original music performed. I knew then that this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life." The development of An Uaithne into Anúna was slow but sure. By 1991 the choir had gone from singing standard choral music, with an emphasis on contemporary and ancient music, to performing Michael's arrangements of medieval and traditional Irish works combined with his original choral pieces almost exclusively. "John McGlynn joined Anúna in 1991, and at that stage the group began to transform from a rather stiff and formal group to a much more relaxed ethos that remains with us today. Performances were experimental and sometimes a bit outrageous. We tried acting on stage, combined with music and various stage effects to see how far the form could be pushed. We started moving, and we still move today in performance. However the one important factor about this movement was that it must have a reason for being. I really didn't want singers wandering aimlessly around as if they were looking for an exit. The most experimental thing I did was to give choral singing back to the singers by eliminating the use of sheet music and the conductor. Singers were now responsible for their performances, and as a result John and I started looking at various ways we could present the choir to make choral music more accessible to our audience." Before starting, i would like to apologize for the delay, it has been 2 weeks now since the last review i posted, but i had been very busy, a lot of problems attacked me simultaneously, my family had excesive work, i had to get money due to the fact of that my family has 3 birthdays on december, not to mention a few discussions i had with Gabrielle, all this stuff and finding myself very unveiled, happened exactly at exam days. Fortunately, i could solve all the problems, and now i can keep making reviews, i'm sorry for the earlier videos (showing my miserable half-time hack, i had them on my PC for days, and i had to upload them to avoid for you guys to think that i was dead), so now i will be as fast as possible to keep uploading reviews, sincerely, sorry, and please, don't think i forgot about you guys, i DO care about you. Haaaaaach] Author's Youtube Channel: http://www.Youtube.com/Haaaaaach ----------- Carlos Alvarez (Solracxealz) Review: GOOD HACK Score: 89 / 100 Gameplay: 9 Graphics: 10 Music: N/A Sound: N/A Difficulty: 9 Sprites: 9 Tilt: 8 Storyboard: 8 Style: 9 Originality: 10 ------------ The hack gives you a warm welcome from the beginning, there is a great common sense on the author, as you find a great variety of elements and enemies on the levels, you don't feel as if you were running in a typical level, it's all correctly organized and calculated (coldly and scary, but calculated). But, we still find the same problem: Difficulty. The enemies are correctly placed, but if you start to run very fastly, you'll definetly find yourself on a TRICKY situation; as the enemies keep luring, the ROM starts to get slow, causing speed differences, or simply, killing you. The problem is that the scenarios are exactly calculated so when you want to keep advancing fastly, the enemies don't leave the screen, so you have enemies behind you, in front of you, over you, and (just in case you are in a pipe) below you! And an INCREDIBLY annoying part of the game is that there is only 1 or 2 mushrooms per overworld, so being little Mario anytime isn't so comfortable, also considering the fact that there are no 1-UPS on any level, but i will not take a point of the gameplay space, not now. Fortunately, it's nothing an skilled player can't get through, so it isn't annoyingly hard. About the story, it's typical: Ugly green dinosaur calls ugly red plumber to help, when ugly red plumber arrives, he finds out that ugly green dinosaur is gone. Basically it's an excuse to take Yoshi out of the game, wich discards the little point I didn't wanted to take on the gameplay space. About the sprites, they are used wonderfully, there are no bugs, but i guess i already mentioned the little problem with the ubications. The worlds are good ideas, and they are correctly designed, but some of them are very long and there are no save minibars, combining this with the little Mario dillemma we have a pretty much average hack. The hack is good though, it's enjoyable, so i hope this proyect is successful when it's done. That's all for today's review, i hope you enjoyed it. And as always... Have a great day.
