Description: Ο Ζυλ Ντασέν (1911-2008) γεννήθηκε στο (More) Ο Ζυλ Ντασέν (1911-2008) γεννήθηκε στο Μιντλτάουν του Κονέκτικατ, στις Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες, ως ένα από τα οκτώ παιδιά ενός ρωσοεβραίου κουρέα. Ξεκίνησε την κινηματογραφική του πορεία ως μαθητευόμενος του Άλφρεντ Χίτσκοκ στην Αμερική, ενώ την περίοδο των διώξεων του μακαρθισμού κατέφυγε στη Γαλλία, λόγω παρεμβάσεων που υπέστη στη δουλειά του (κλήθηκε για εξηγήσεις από το Κογκρέσο κατηγορούμενος για αντιαμερικανική δράση, την εποχή που γύριζε την ταινία "Night and the City"). Στη Γαλλία γύρισε το "Rififi", με το οποίο και κέρδισε το βραβείο σκηνοθεσίας στο Φεστιβάλ των Κανών το 1955. Στη Γαλλία, επίσης, παντρεύτηκε την Μπεατρίς Λονέρ με την οποία απέκτησε δύο παιδιά, τον διάσημο Γάλλο τραγουδιστή Τζο Ντασέν (ο οποίος πέθανε το 1980) και την ηθοποιό Ζυλί Ντασέν. Τη ζωή του, ωστόσο, σημάδεψε ανεξίτηλα ο έρωτάς του με τη Μελίνα Μερκούρη, την οποία γνώρισε στις Κάνες, δύο χρόνια μετά το "Rififi", παντρεύτηκε και ακολούθησε στην Ελλάδα, όπου και στέριωσε αναδεικνύοντάς την ως δεύτερη πατρίδα του. Από τη στιγμή εκείνη αρχίζει η δεύτερή του καριέρα, καθώς οι περισσότερες ταινίες που σκηνοθετεί, έχουν πρωταγωνίστρια τη Μελίνα. Μαζί με τη Μελίνα γύρισαν εννέα ταινίες, μεταξύ των οποίων το "Τοπκαπί", τη "Φαίδρα" και το "Ποτέ την Κυριακή", η οποία τιμήθηκε με το βραβείο καλύτερης ταινίας στο Φεστιβάλ Κανών, το 1960. Μετά το θάνατο της Μελίνας έγινε πρόεδρος του Ιδρύματος "Μελίνα Μερκούρη", το οποίο ιδρύθηκε για τη διατήρηση της μνήμης της, στο πλαίσιο του οποίου δραστηριοποιήθηκε για την επιστροφή των μαρμάρων του Παρθενώνα. Πέθανε στην Αθήνα στις 31 Μαρτίου του 2008, σε ηλικία 97 ετών.
