(More) HUDYO E SAMARAI: Unlike other Martial Arts Forms that are more bureaucratic, fluid, and ballet-like - Ha'Filipinim Eskrima's primary objective is practically simple: a swift thrashing. The teaching of the basic skills in FMA (Filipino Martial Arts) are traditionally simplified. With limited time to teach flashy techniques, only skills that were proven efficient in battle and could easily be taught en masse effectively were used. Thus it's identification as a martial art for the common folk. This allowed villagers, generally not professional soldiers, a measure of security and protection against foreign invaders. This philosophy of simplicity is still used today and is the underlying bases of operations for the FMA. Because of this approach, the FMA (as well as Ha'Filipinim themselves) are often mistakenly underestimated to be just "simple" artists. However, this underestimation is itself simplistic naïveté, acknowledging only MFA's surface methodology. On the contrary, beyond the basic skills lais a very complex matrix and a refined skill structure that takes years to sharpen. Ha'Filipinim Eskrima focuses mainly on defense against or reacting to angles of attack rather than particular aggression. The theory behind this is that virtually all types of hand-to-hand attacks [bear-handed or with a weapon] will hit or reach a combatant via these angles of attack and it is understood that it is more efficient to learn to defend against angles of attack rather than rely on particular styles, particular techniques or particular weaponry. For instance, the retaliatory technique for defending against an attack angle that comes overhead from the right is very similar whether the attacker uses bare fists, a knife, a sword or a spear. The right angle of counter-attack is named: San Miguel (Mikhael Mimini). San Miguel is a forehand strike with the right hand, moving from the striker's right shoulder toward their left hip. It is named after Saint Michael or the Arkangel Mikhael, who is often depicted holding a sword at this angle. This is the most natural restraint for a most novice people. It is also referred to as a "#1," in 12 Tribal systems which employ 5, 12 or multiple angles. It is historically recorded that Ferdinand Magellan, head of the Spanish Conquistadors, was finally killed in the Battle of Mactan in 1521 by a Filipino Eskrimador. Still, he was severely reprimanded by Ha'Filipinim Elders for publicly releasing (perhaps pre-maturely) knowledge what had been traditionally kept secret, a practice that helped preserve and cultivate a language and a people, thus preventing a watered down form of the art through commercialization. Legend has it that Bruce Lee had invented an upgraded form of Eskrima and was just about to unveil it publicly - but died suddenly [the details of which remain a mystery]. Culturally-speaking, South-East Asians have little tolerance for rebellion and will quell any uprising deemed justifiable - utterly, without Rakhamim and diplomatic hot-air maneuvering, unlike the West's Babel Bubkis.
