*THE TIGER (Report) *Dedicated to those guards who put their life on the line for low pay to protect the tiger and its habitat.
Total captive tiger numbers= 10,000 +/- in various situations. (most are Amur/Bengal mixed)
Tiger numbers in the wild:
(based on the most recent and factual data I could find)
BENGAL TIGER= 1,300-1,500 (S.Asia: India) Low numbers due to loss of habitat with population boom, need for agriculture, illegal hunting, and poor protection.
AMUR/ SIBERIAN TIGER= 400-500 (E. Asia: Russia, N.E. China) Low numbers due to illegal hunting in vast unprotected habitat as well legal hunting killing off their natural prey. Logging companies (some mafia influenced, clearing forest)
INDOCHINESE TIGER= 700-1,200 (S.E. Asia: Vietnam, Cambodia) Low numbers due to fragmented habitat, devastation of forest for palm oil production, illegal hunting and poor protection.
SUMATRAN TIGER= 250-300 (W. Indonesia: Sumatra) Low numbers due to loss of habitat, illegal hunting and poor protection.
MALAYAN TIGER= 400-600 (S.E. Asia: Malaysia, Thailand) *decleared a separate subspecies from the Indochinese tiger in 2004. Low numbers due to loss of habitat from logging and agriculture.
SOUTH CHINA TIGER= 10? (S.China) declared extinct in 2003. (One photo recently taken is being called a hoax.) Low numbers due to China's waiting until 1977 to outlaw hunting. No protection from illegal hunting. Loss of habitat.
(a captive born male S. China tiger was born 11-23-07 in Africa)
WHAT I THINK WILL SAVE THE WILD TIGER:
Letting U.S. corporations know that we want to be aware where our resources like Palm Oil come from. Our government letting China know we are unhappy with their wildlife policies (namely tiger parts used in traditional medicine) and poor protection of their endangered animals.
Better protection for the tigers in their native habitats and their prey species by properly arming and funding the anti-poaching units, and better regulations allowing them to search for illegal trade. Less corrupt local governments to allow the people a chance at an economy that doesn't rely on illegal trade or over farming the land.
More funding being sent over, possibly a tiger tax on all that own/exhibit tigers to go towards their conservation.

If they are not legal wherever you are,
don't persist in getting one because.
1- Its illegal for a reason, to keep safe future species.
2- One caught from the wild is hardly happy captive,
And will probably die of sadness
3- One caught from the wild will be wild,
Not docile like mine (captive born by many generations.)
It's a barn owl, Called Precious.
It's around 4 months old,
and I got it when it was round 20/25 days old.
I call it:it, coz were not sure if it's male or female.
I'm feeding it chicken chicks,
and I will eventually feed it mice too.
(No I don't breed or catch the food
I simply buy them frozen)
In Malta (an island in Europe were I live at)
It is now legal to keep and/or breed barn owls.
So I got it buy buying it from a breeder.
It's totally legal because:
Unfortunately there are no Maltese barn owls
left in the wild, They want us to adopt owls
and increase there population at least in captivity
So as not to loose the Maltese blood line.
Eventually there should be a program for re-introducing
Owls back in Malta's wild life.
Using the chicks or gran-chicks :P
of captive born such as mine.
It is a great pet, but it seeks allot of attention.
So make sure you're willing to spend lots
of time with it, if you're thinking of getting one.
It's mostly active early morning and evenings,
but it sleeps at night and takes naps during the day.
Oh and there are no problems between it
and my other animals at all! Never bit anyone either.
We let it fly round the house most times.
It gets depressed if we put he in the change.
So we got her a stand.
TV or radio is on where not around.
You can't really potty train an owl.
But a wet cloth cleans it easy.
To me it worth all the trouble!! Love my Precious!

I probably do not fit into the preconceived notion of a "rebel". I have no visible tattoos and minimal piercings. I do not possess a leather jacket.
In fact, when most people look at me, their first thought usually is something along the lines of "oppressed female."
The brave individuals who have mustered the courage to ask me about the way I dress usually have questions like: "Do your parents make you wear that?" or "Don't you find that really unfair?"
A while back, a couple of girls in Montreal were kicked out of school for dressing like I do. It seems strange that a little piece of cloth would make for such controversy. Perhaps the fear is that I am harbouring an Uzi underneath it.
Of course, the issue at hand is more than a mere piece of cloth. I am a Muslim woman who, like millions of other Muslim women across the globe, chooses to wear the hijab. And the concept of the hijab, contrary to popular opinion, is actually one of the most fundamental aspects of female empowerment.
When I cover myself, I make it virtually impossible for people to judge me according to the way I look. I cannot be categorized because of my attractiveness or lack thereof. Compare this to life in today's society: We are constantly sizing one another up on the basis of our clothing, jewelry, hair and makeup. What kind of depth can there be in a world like this? Yes, I have a body, a physical manifestation upon this Earth. But it is the vessel of an intelligent mind and a strong spirit.
It is not for the beholder to leer at or to use in advertisements to sell everything from beer to cars. Because of the superficiality of the world in which we live, external appearances are so stressed that the value of the individual counts for almost nothing.
It is a myth that women in today's society are liberated. What kind of freedom can there be when a woman cannot walk down the street without every aspect of her physical self being "checked out"? When I wear the hijab I feel safe from all of this. I can rest assured that no one is looking at me and making assumptions about my character from the length of my skirt. There is a barrier between me and those who would exploit me. I am first and foremost a human being, equal to any man, and not vulnerable because of my sexuality.
One of the saddest truths of our time is the question of the beauty myth and female self-image. Reading popular teenage magazines, you can instantly find out what kind of body image is "in" or "out." and if you have the "wrong" body type, well, then, you're just going to have to change it, aren't you? After all, there is no way that you can be overweight and still be beautiful. Look at any advertisement. Is a woman being used to sell the product? How old is she? How attractive is she? What is she wearing? More often than not, that woman will be no older than her early 20s, taller, slimmer and more attractive than average, dressed in skimpy clothing.
Why do we allow ourselves to be manipulated like this?
Whether the '90s woman wishes to believe it or not, she is being forced into a mold. She is being coerced into selling herself, into compromising herself. This is why we have 13-year-old girls sticking their fingers down their throats and overweight adolescents hanging themselves. When people ask me if I feel oppressed, I can honestly say no. I made this decision out of my own free will. I like the fact that I am taking control of the way other people perceive me. I enjoy the fact that I don't give anyone anything to look at and that I have released myself from the bondage of the swinging pendulum of the fashion industry and other institutions that exploit females.
My body is my own business. Nobody can tell me how I should look or whether or not I am beautiful. I know that there is more to me than that. I am also able to say "no" comfortably then people ask me if I feel as though my sexuality is being repressed.
I have taken control of my sexuality. I am thankful I will never have to suffer the fate of trying to lose/gain weight or trying to find the exact lipstick shade that will go with my skin colour. I have made choices about what my priorities are and these are not among them. So next time you see me, don't look at me sympathetically. I am not under duress or a male-worshipping female captive from Arabic deserts. I've been liberated.

He may be a giant chimpanzee. His appearance (More) Comparison of Giant Chimpanzee and common chimpanzee. The first ape in view is Daryl, a common chimpanzee. Kermit is in view during the rest of the video. He may be a giant chimpanzee. His appearance differs from most other chimpanzees. Not only is he larger, but his face is somewhat darker. He has a greyish beard.
Kermit is very intelligent. Perhaps when he places the yellow chair in front of him and applauds, he is communicating the idea that he understands the situation that he is in.
Kermit is a gentle giant. Although Kermit is much larger, Daryl is said to be more dominant. This might suggest that the Giant Chimpanzee has a more docile disposition than the common chimpanzee, which is quite aggressive. Perhaps the Giant Chimpanzee has a personality more closely resembling that of the bonobo.
Primatologists have documented a mysterious, new human-like ape. It lives in the northern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (in central Africa). It is highly elusive and lives in difficult to reach areas, thus, little is known about it. It has been reported that these apes, which sometimes walk upright, can stand up to 6-feet tall and to have 14-inch feet. They have the large body of the gorilla, but their face is flatter and more that of the chimpanzee. They seem to be a chimpanzee having the size and behavior of a gorilla. They sleep on the ground like gorillas, but eat a diet mainly consisting of fruit, as does the chimpanzee.
When the moon rises and sets, these large animals hoot at it. This behavior has not been seen in other primates. The apes are gorilla-like animals having chimpanzee behavior.
It is unknown whether this is a new species of ape, or a new species of chimpanzee. Some have speculated that it might be a cross between the chimpanzee and gorilla, although it is unknown whether the chimpanzee and gorilla can breed. Thus, it might be an undiscovered genetic relative of humans.
Some reports have called the animal a biped and say it often carries things in its hands.
The animals have been described in the International Journal of Primatology and the UK magazine, New Scientist.
It is unknown wither Kermit might be a member of this species. If so, he may be the only captive member in existence. Genetic DNA studies are planned. He is highly intelligent and observant. His interest in the man's electronic instrument at the beginning of the video is evident. He motions visitors up so he can check their clothes and is especially interested in foot ware. He puts on a good display for his audience. Note his very expressive face and interest in his surroundings. He weighed 300 lbs. and was very muscular, as can be seen.
Unfortunately to the dismay of the researchers (who chained themselves to the compound fence) and everyone else, Kermit and the other chimpanzees were moved to another facility. Kermit died there soon after the move. This is a great loss, not only to science, but to the researchers, and his many human and animal friends.
The video was filmed at Dr. Sally T. Boysen's Ohio State University Chimpanzee Center.
Please visit kermitscommunity to learn more about the chimps in this video.

She was born in 1956 and is the second oldest known gorilla in the world. (The oldest is Jenny, in the Dallas Zoo). Colo is noted for the heart-shaped brow ridge above her eyes (She is not the gorilla shown in the still picture for this video). (Mumba, a wild born silverback male 1865, is the one with his lower lip hung open.)
Colo has left many descendants including grandchildren Mac, Jumoke, Nik, & Cassie, and great grandmother of Jontu and Muchana.
Colo was born on December 22, 1956 at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium. She is a Western lowland gorilla, who was born to Millie (also known as Christina) and Baron Macombo (Mac for short) who were captured by "Gorilla Bill" Said, of Bexley, Ohio, in the area of Africa then known as French Cameroon. Millie and Mac arrived in New York on December 22, 1950, during a snowstorm and had no planned destination!! Mr. Said, called a friend, Columbus Zoo Superintendent Earl Davis, who agreed to take the gorillas in the emergency.
Colo weighed just 3.75 lbs. and measured only 15 inches long, but she had a profound affect on world. Her birth allowed the Columbus Zoo to demonstrate that gorillas could have babies in captivity and also to contribute the information that Millie's gestation period was about 250 days-an important fact at a time when little was known about gorillas.
Colo is an amazing world record holder for many additional reasons. Colo gave birth to Emmy, the first second-generation gorilla born in captivity and became a grandmother when Cora, the first third-generation gorilla, was captive born. In addition, for ten years, Colo's grandsons, Mosuba and Macombo II, were the only gorilla twins born in the western hemisphere! Colo is also the great grandmother of Timu, the first surviving gorilla conceived by artificial insemination.
Because of Colo, the Columbus Zoo is recognized worldwide as a leader in gorilla breeding, care, habitat, and conservation. It also is one of the zoos that led the way in creating enclosures that simulate a gorilla's natural environment, allowing them to live more fulfilling lives and enlarging human understanding of their intelligence and gentle dispositions. At a time when gorilla populations in the wild are severely threatened, around 30 gorillas have been born at the Columbus Zoo.
Colo will probably have no more offspring, because she is on birth control. Some national study results have confirmed that some older gorilla females have gone through menopause, much as people do. These studies also suggest that gorillas experience perimenopause, a stage in human females during which reproductive cycles become more erratic as menopause approaches. However, to be on the safe side, she is on birth control.
Another Columbus Zoo gorilla discussed in this video is Sunshine, a huge male who once resided here and also left offspring. Sunshine, who weighs around 600 lbs. and stands at 6 feet 3 inches tall, is a giant.
**The gorilla (gorilla gorilla) is the largest of all living primates. These African apes are divided into two species and 4 or 5 subspecies. Their DNA is 97-98% identical to that of humans and they are considered the next closest relative after the chimpanzee. Gorillas can be over 6 feet tall and weight over 500 lbs. They are highly intelligent. Some such as Koko have been taught a subset of sign language. They use tools for a number of purposes.

Videos like yours can help spread awareness - the key to putting governments under pressure and changing policies." Ritu Khanna WILDLIFE PROTECTION SOCIETY OF INDIA. ------------------------------------------ *THE TIGER (Report) *Dedicated to those guards who put their life on the line for low pay to protect the tiger and its habitat. Total captive tiger numbers= 10,000 +/- in various situations. (most are Amur/Bengal mixed) Tiger numbers in the wild: (based on the most recent and factual data I could find) BENGAL TIGER= 1,300-1,500 (S.Asia: India) Low numbers due to loss of habitat with population boom, need for agriculture, illegal hunting, and poor protection. AMUR/ SIBERIAN TIGER= 400-500 (E. Asia: Russia, N.E. China) Low numbers due to illegal hunting in vast unprotected habitat as well legal hunting killing off their natural prey. Logging companies (some mafia influenced, clearing forest) INDOCHINESE TIGER= 700-1,200 (S.E. China tiger was born 11-23-07 in Africa) WHAT I THINK WILL SAVE THE WILD TIGER: Letting U.S. corporations know that we want to be aware where our resources like Palm Oil come from.
