It turns out that it's addicted the crap out of me. This is a two-part video showing off the combat system and a typical dungeon crawl. Every dungeon's shape and the enemies inside are randomly generated based on your level and the item you drop on the Goddess Altar outside. Dropping the same item as someone else will enter you into their dungeon - this dungeon is actually the third I've entered, after dropping a cobweb and some branches, both dungeons having someone in them, I dropped a single gold coin on the altar and this dungeon was generated. I made a point to turn the music up for this video - I love the dungeon music in this game. Combat works like so - you mouse over or near an enemy and hold Control to lock onto them, then left click to attack with your weapon. While you're left clicking, you can reach up to the function keys (F2, F3, and F4 for me) to activate skills, which will go off as soon as you're done attacking. In the first battle against the mimics, you can see me zoom in on a single item after the first kill - it's a Formorian Scroll, basically an evil enchantment that's taken control of the creature and causes it to be much more aggressive and hostile. Ten of any single type in a stack are worth a good bit of change - anywhere from 560 gold for 10 white spider scrolls to 110,000 for 10 red bear scrolls. When I reach the Boss Room, the combat system really kicks into high gear. The blue skill I'm using is the Icebolt spell, which I can cast up to 5 times before combat, each one acting as a seperate attack. Red skills are combat based, the shield being Defend, which allows me limited movement and reduces combat damage to a minimum, Counterattack, which drains my stamina and locks me in place, but allows me to dodge any melee attack and deliver one of my own, where Defend can be overcome by the Smash skill. It turns out that it's addicted the crap out of me. This is a two-part video showing off the combat system and a typical dungeon crawl. (continued from Mabinogi Combat Part 1) The first encounter of the video, you can see that the Red Spider I'm fighting goes into Defend when I do. This is a perfect time to fire up Counterattack, since it takes longer for it to ready and isn't as reliable as Defend. ...And then there's the Giant Spider. After watching the video, I know what I did wrong. The Giant Spider has attack reach within a very long range, and I got inside it like a putz. After warping back to the Goddess Statue at the beginning of the dungeon, I walk back to outside of the Boss Room and set up a campfire. Now, in game, it takes a while for wounds to heal, but for the sake of the video I skipped over all that. Check out the ingame clock, though - 5 PM to 8:10 PM before I'm fully healed. When the Giant Spider hit me for that huge 50 points of damage on his second attack, I paniced a little. I knew if I didn't disrupt his attack pattern, I was gonna die again and I attacked. Fortunately, I got through and hit him first without trading blows and the rest of the fight went as smoothly as I could've hoped for. Well, almost as smooth - that hit for 16 at the end made me nervous. And if you're wondering why I didn't drink any healing potions, it's because you have to be out of combat for several seconds to drink a potion of any sort. You can do it if you're teaming with a friend, but not if you're by yourself, not unless you knock them back and then run like crazy, and then you won't get your Defend back active before you're hit again. The loot from the dungeon was rather decent - 165 gold, some Magic Powder, and an Enchant Scroll I can use on my equipment.
