I came up with an idea for a license, negotiable.. But it's likely SideFX will remove the message, give me a email saying that this was against their forum policy, and that possibly warn me that my account will be removed from their site, of course I could always just take another name, to get help, not a really big burden.. As with XSI I've sawed off my relationship with them, but I was more of an jerk toward them because I was a paying customer.. Anyhow.. I am SO GLAD ALIAS IS a part of autodesk, that's got to really hurt some of those that worked for Alias.. God they deserved it.. Anyhow, Houdini are good guys.. Even when I ran Wavefront, we dreamt of having houdini.. This is a good deal fro 99 dollars, but given the state of the industry, I think they should try something a bit more competitive with Autodesk.. I think at this stage they are trying to keep investors and desperate for major income.. Solution, make "incentive" for people to purchase the package.. Idea? Um... Dating game meets let's make a deal.. Purchasers of more costly "basic" Houdini copy (apprentice, love plus one), just essentials, ability to transfer ownership, non license server enforced, useable on any machine, no DRM, strict legal license outlining penatlies and fees and potential lawsuit if not abided, but mainly no license server (thus I can install this and keep and installing it into the future, regardless of whether I use Windows, Linux, etc..). However license can be verified by online server, that verifies use (so that if two are being used, one gets disabled possibly, but would work offline, just would require someone to be "wary cahful".. Or they could pirate, and that would happen anyhow if someone really wanted to.. Not saying I would, I only learn stuff I intend to buy.. I don't learn stuff that I can't.. It's like driving a car and refusing to pay for the driver's license.. There are penalties for that.. Same here.. Anyhow, cut to the chase: People pay 500 up front for a license.. with "NC" removed, like it is with HD Apprentice.. But Deal 1. person can only make up to the cost of the license for Houdini Escape, so if they make 600 dollars they could stop and sell the program, but if in the future (with some limitation) if they should use houdini again it would hold true again, unless they happen to work for someone with houdini to purchase it.. Note, this would have to be bound to the USA, as in India, 2000 dollars is really a lot of money.. But all the usual and possible protection taken, it would keep these users from competing with the big boys.. Deal 2. Safer, instead, say people pay 200 dollars, but instead they can only be paid in credit, possibly to be used on only SideFX products, while SideFX gets paid by owners of commercial SideFX (Escape +) licenses to get deliverables made.. So on one side you have someone who needs something, SideFX in the middle, and on the other side you have a pool of apprentices competiting to win, SideFX makes money, High end users get a deliverable, low-end users get credit useable toward commercial package.. However, SideFX would not be able to buffer the difference between what the high-end client offered for the deliverable, and who won the contest.. Of course if the high end client pulls out they lose the fee of entry, say 100 dollars. Which mayb 50 of that the winner gets.. So there would need to be something there to buffer that (insurance?) Okay I said I would put the whole document here, but I'm just going to upload a video of what I did, I'm keeping copies for myself in case, somehow they have everything people type on their site under some sort of copyright.. It's not copyright infringement if I video tape and image that was on my monitor, also it isn't if I paraphrased here.. The video is a means to show what was there.. So that people know I put something up.. If it's gone from the site, you can draw your own conclusion.. (Less)
