Devil May Cry, DMD 100% Challenge, Mission 23

The hardest part (More) S-Rank requirements: Time: 7:00 Red orbs: 600 And: it's done, motherfuckers! :p Needless to say, Mission 23 was much much much much much easier than Mission 22 :p ... The hardest part by far was the tunnel escape, but in the end, it only took me about 5 or 6 tries to get past it. There are two key points to getting past the tunnel without getting hit: a) Hold down the shoot button as soon as you gain control of Dante and *don't let go* b) Swerve in the right places You don't need to swerve until you reach the 2nd empty(ish) cave with the pillar in the middle, then you have to swerve to the right to evade it. After that, when you re-enter the twisty tunnel, you need to swerve left both times straight after the tunnel does a 360 degree spin twice in a row, then after the 2nd left, swerve right. You only need to swerve *slightly* - unless you want to go heading straight into the left or right hand bank :p For the rest of the mission, I thought I would bring out the Nightmare-Beta out to play :p ... Stylish combo ratings without any effort FTW! :p So, at the end of my DMD 100% challenge, this is what I have: - 6 Devil Stars - 7 Holy Waters - 5 Untouchables - 1 Bangle of Time - All Devil Arms and guns - 7 yellow orbs - All 44 blue orb fragments and 2 whole blue orbs collected, with the remainder being bought from divinity statues - All 7 purple orbs bought - All 12 Secret Missions completed - All 23 Missions with SBs completed, no damage taken, even though I could have accepted damage in most missions, due to this being a lenient ranking game, so ner :p - 1 King of Hell picture That's it. My 100% game complete, with *nothing* omitted. I hope you folks enjoyed watching! As for me, I finally did what I had wanted to do for such a long time: record a DMC1 DMD SB game of my own :p ... I have to be honest, and say this challenge not only gave me a run for my money, it positively made me do several marathons for it. I bought DMC1, by pure serendiptious chance, in Jan 2003. To cut a long story short, I was also buying a PS2, and one free Platinum (UK equivalent of Greatest Hits) game was on offer along with the PS2. After half an hour spent humming and awing, I finally settled, rather reluctantly, upon a game I had never heard of called Devil May Cry. The shopkeeper reassured me it was "good". I didn't really believe him :p Four years later, here I am - four years older and none the wiser for it. Four years older and *still* a moron :p ... But I did get good at DMC1 in that time. I haven't played very many video games compared to most games players, but it still stands as the single best action game I have ever played. Such a simple game on the surface; so much depth under the surface. And, leniency aside, the ranking system is gold. So, what next? Well, no more DMC1 for a while :p ... Well, that sort of *depends*. One idea I had in mind was to do a DMC1 combo video. It would give me a chance to learn video editing - something I've wanted to do for a while now - and such a project could be good fun overall. In fact, at the moment, that is a strong possibility, assuming I can think of enough decent ideas to sustain the duration of five or six minutes. I also want to finish my FF7 game. I'm interested in exploring an X-ATM092 exploit in FF8 - *not* my discovery, I hasten to add, but if it works, I might, with the requisite permission, write a guide to it, since this isn't something generally known about. I've also got the *great* DMC2 to finish :p ... It's a bad game with a great name. I've got some other games I want to catch up on too. But I guess the most important thing coming up next is: DMC3. We'll see where I can get with that in six months to a year. I'm *very* behind on it compared to other DMC3 players, and I've probably left it too late to ever become one of the great players at it - assuming I even could. DMD SS-Rank DMC3 game in a few months' time? We'll see... ;p (Less)

Yes, I bitched out and used a turbo controller against Mundus 1 =/ ... Originally, I was using the normal Sony controller, but eventually I just wanted to get *through* this mission and finish this game by any means possible. Just so you know, I've gotten through the Mundus 1 fight damageless with the Sony controller many many times by now. In fact, I got it so I could finish Mundus in two 'runs' (each new run begins at the point you start travelling towards Mundus 1 through the various crap he slings at you in outer space). However, it was exceedingly tough on me. I'm not at full health. I'm not as ill as I was last year, but I'm not as well as I was before I came ill. I lack stamina. Basically, I could have about 3 or 4 decent goes against Mundus 1 before weakening, and that wasn't enough - not for what I needed to deal with next. That's right, Mundus 2 :p God, what a CHEAP fucking bastard he was =/ ... You want to know how I finally got the SB? I just sat and played Mission 22 without a break for about an hour and a half. I did absolutely shit against Mundus 2, but I perservered. I then went through a shit patch against Mundus 1, but I perservered. I finally had ONE half-decent fight against Mundus 2, where I took off two-thirds of Mundus 2's life before getting hit. I took a short break, then went and got the SB on something like my third try. Simple, eh? No =/ ... I fucking *hated* this mission. Shortly after SBing Mission 21, I entered the worst period of insomnia of my life. I was the walking dead for at least 10 days. Bit by bit, I was able to bring it (mostly) under control. I started on M22. No luck. I began to hate and dread it. I decided to take a break and play other games for a while, in hopes I would start to eagerly antipicate fighting Mundus after a break. It never happened. At the back of my mind, I continued to dread the fucker. When I went back to fighting, I loathed the cheap bastard as much as ever. God, I loathed *him*. To cut a long story short, I did what I finally needed to do, and which I should have done much much sooner: just fucking sat down and tried for as long as it took. If you suck humungously, there's only one way you can go from there - that's right, even lower :p Anyway, my apologies for the turbo in the Mundus 1 fight. I could always upload a non-turbo version if anybody wanted to see it (not much would change, except I'd just be shooting slower - that's all). For the record, it didn't help me in the Mundus 2 fight. If anything, since I find the Sony controller more comfortable to hold, it was a *slight* hindrance to me in the Mundus 2 fight. I (More) S-Rank requirements: Time: 2:00 Red orbs: 100 This is Mission 5 of my DMD run :p It should be pretty self-explanatory. Equip shotgun. Blast away. Dodge. Have lots of Shadow-related fun. I was pretty pleased with the time for this one, considering for the first few tries I was struggling to equip the shotgun and collect all the bits and bobs, and still maintain a sub 2:00 time. On the top tier, when I did a slash, I had meant to do a Stinger, but I was still too close to the Shadow below, thus the auto-targeting (how I love it) chose to target the Shadow rather than let me do my Stinger. Also, when I missed the first jump for the blue orb, in my usual genius way I scratched my head, went 'dur', wondered what to do, did a straight jump up, unsurprisingly missed, looked puzzled, and then jumped back onto the left hand tower to try again - it was probably just as well I got it that time :p Finally, this mission is proof that I have a lenient ranking game - on previous tries, I got the SB both with a time over 2:00 but no hits taken, and with a time under 2:00 but with a hit taken. Without going into too much detail, there are some games which are 'lenient' in their ranking. Since the first three missions are always strict, ranking-wise, no matter what, you normally can't tell until Mission 4 or 5. It varies from game to game, but some missions will let you go a bit over time or take a hit, and *still* give you the SB :-/. However, if you get a strict ranking game, then you'll have to meet the requirements fully for every single mission. Mission 7 is the exception to the rule, and exists in a twilight zone of its own. It pisses me off, to be honest. To further muddy the waters, I'm not sure what effect Secret Missions have on the time limit. I suspect a certain amount of unspecified extra time is allocated for Secret Missions, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I will always go for meeting the S-Rank requirements. If you try to do an SB game, and you get an SB that isn't quite deserved, now you'll know why :p (Less)
