Het tweetal uit Liverpool speelde al jaren samen in talloze obscure bandjes (met illustere namen als VCL XI, Hitlerz Underpantz en The Id) en allebei waren ze gefascineerd door de elektronische muziek van onder andere Kraftwerk en Tangerine Dream. Het duo tekende in 1978 een contract met het eigenzinnige Engelse Factory-label en bracht midden 1978 hun eerste single "Electricity" uit. De single werd een culthit en de twee lijfden Malcolm Holmes (die de drummachine moest vervangen) en keyboardspeler Dave Hughes in. In 1980 verscheen hun naar zichzelf vernoemde debuutalbum, enkele maanden later alweer gevolgd door het tweede album "Organisation". OMD scoorde een Engelse top 10-hit met het vrolijke "Enola Gay". De single "Souvenir" werd ook in Nederland een hitje. De grote doorbraak kwam met hun derde album "Architecture and Morality" (1981), alhoewel de eerste single van de plaat flopte. De tweede single "Maid of Orleans (The Waltz Joan of Arc)" was daarentegen een schot in de roos. De daaropvolgende albums "Dazzle Ships" (1983), "Junk Culture" (1984), "Crush" (1985) en "Pacific Age" (1986) belandden stuk voor stuk hoog in de albumlijsten en gingen gepaard met een aantal persoonswisselingen, met Andy en Paul als enige constante factoren. OMD scoorde een groot aantal hits, waaronder "Locomotion", "Talking Loud & Clear", "La Femme Accident" en "(Forever) Live and Die". Na 1986 werd het stil rond de groep. De bandleden hielden het voor gezien. De succestijden van weleer waren voorbij, iets dat overigens gold voor een heleboel groepen die begin jaren tachtig erg populair waren (Spandau Ballet, Ultravox, Duran Duran, om er een paar te noemen), en alleen McCluskey bleef over. In 1991 bracht hij als OMD het album "Sugar Tax" uit, gevolgd door "Liberator" (1993) en "Universal" (1996). In 1998 kwam Paul Humphreys nog n keer terug voor de definitieve afscheidstournee van Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. McCluskey opereert tegenwoordig vooral op de achtergrond en is onder meer verantwoordelijk voor enkele hits van het Engelse damestrio Atomic Kitten. In 2006 werd aangekondigd dat de band in de originele bezetting werd heropgericht en een nieuw album zou gaan opnemen. Bovendien startte in 2007 de tournee Architecture & Morality, die genoemd werd naar hun derde en meest succesvolle album. After returning him, he was adopted the very next day =^-^= ★ Also ★ there seems to be some confusion about why Blip Blip was returned to the Humane Society. I am a foster parent who takes in kittens who are too young to adopt out and provides a safe & loving environment until they reach an adoptable age. Blip Blip was never in any danger of being destroyed. Once a foster kitten is returned, the Humane Society makes potential adopters fill out a questionnaire to ensure that they are sincere and capable. Also, the adopter must pay an adoption fee of $100+ to the Humane Society. Fostering is charitable and I receive no pay. If I chose to keep my fosters I would have too many cats and since most of these foster kittens go to homes where they are the only cat, they can receive the attention they deserve. I already have three cats and he would have to share the love. Blip Blip deserves to be #1. Hope this helps people better understand the foster program. __________________________________ I was practicing a song when my foster kitty, Blip Blip, made himself at home. So, out came the camera, song ready or not (not, I know there are some picking and timing glitches but hey, opportunity came a knockin'. I wasn't even planning on releasing this song. I was just practicing when this little guy made me rush for the camera). This is not so much a music video but an ode to Blip Blip and a perfect way to put together all his film clips. I raised him from just 3 weeks old to about 4 months old. He's a dear and it was very hard to return him to the Humane Society(I'm part of their foster program). But, I knew he'd make a great companion for some lucky person and I already have plenty of cats. I enjoy Family Guy, love Robot Chicken, Inuyasha, Naruto (most anime), American Idol and Planet Earth (in HD). The Office is a great comedy but very embarrassing (secret crush on Dwight). A lot of people ask if I'm either Chinese, Taiwanese, Filipino, Korean, Japanese, Malaysian, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Laotian, Thai, Cambodian, even Irish!? Well, these are all fine people but I'm proud to be one-hundred percent Burmese by ethnicity and American by culture. And now a little rant... I've noticed something about females in my generation. I live by a skate-park and everytime I pass-by "busty teen babes" just sit idly on their hands, acting sexy, as guys perform skateboard tricks and stunts (not idle). The girls' dress code is the "all empowering" "look at my breasts" camisoles or the popular "I just got boobs" tank top, paired with hot ultra low rider "look at my pubic bone" jeans, thong or g-string.
