Description: KVIE Channel 6 pledge break #2 of 2, part #2 of 2 from Saturday, March 14, 1987 episode of Doctor Who: The Deadly Assassin.
In the late 1980s, PBS stations across America were showing Doctor Who. (More) KVIE Channel 6 pledge break #2 of 2, part #2 of 2 from Saturday, March 14, 1987 episode of Doctor Who: The Deadly Assassin.
In the late 1980s, PBS stations across America were showing Doctor Who. As with any other popular show, it had to be interrupted a few weeks out of every year with "pledge breaks", which are usually very dull affairs. At KVIE 6 in Sacramento, California, the local fan club (of which I was a part) had members on staff, and began the tradition of turning pledge breaks into on-air parties.
I am Emmett (formerly David Pickerel at the time of these videos). To the fellow members of the Sacramento Doctor Who Fan Club: I apologise that I can't remember most of your names. Also, I'm using first names only *except* where your full name was displayed or spoken on air.
This was definitely aired on either March 7th or March 14th, 1987. The following logic applies:
* Patrick Troughton Appreciation Society (PTAS) mentioned (Patrick died March 28, 1987, so would have been before that)
* Allen Chamberlin wearing a St Patrick's Day hat, which would have been 3 days away on the 14th.
* I was wearing my Sylvester McCoy outfit from his first Dr Who press photo. He was announced as #7 in early March 1987, which nails down the year. Also, it's most likely the 14th because I needed time to assemble the costume.
Location is the old pre-1990 KVIE building (originally housing KCCC in the 1950s), the Garden Highway address of which I am unable to find.
Break 1 (of 2):
Speaking: Allen as #5, Annette as Number Two (from The Prisoner), Gene as #4.
On the floor: Allan as The Master (Ainsley), Christy as Number Six (The Prisoner), Patti, Skye as Audrey (Little Shop of Horrors)
On the phones: Helmuth, Caroline, Stephen
Gene: [faces back wall] "Doctor who's back!" [turns] "Doctor who's front!"
Topics:
* It was announced that KVIE 6 would be showing The Prisoner soon.
* A reminder that Monty Python would be starting on the station the following month.
* KVIE 6's video tape librarian Cindy was the first to discover that there was a glitch in Masque of Mandragora (8 seconds), which eventually led to Lionheart (BBC's American distribution branch) to discover that their *master* tape was faulty.
