Starting January 27th 2003, Newton County will be hosting one of the most publicized and highly profiled cases in Georgia's history. The case of Rev. Malachi York and Kathy Johnson and the 208 alleged child molestation charges launched against them by a disgruntled son, several vindictive women and a power hungry Sheriff. Both of the defendants have maintained their innocence and the evidence supports their innocence, even to the point where all 5 of the children taken by the Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS) to be investigated for molestation and abuse were returned to their families with no signs that they had been sexually molested in any way by Rev. York or any of the other defendants. The most disturbing aspect of the prosecution's whole case is how the steps taken by the District Attorney Fred Bright and the other prosecutors are IDENTICAL to that of a case that took place in 1983 in Manhattan Beach, California called the "McMartin Trials". This was a trial about a family that owned and operated a preschool in Manhattan Beach and was alleged to have sexually molested over 200 children from ages 2 to 14 years of age. They ended up with exactly 208 counts against them but after 6years of trial and 16 million dollars paid by the state they all were vindicated of all charges in the end. In 1995 there was an HBO movie entitled "Indictment" ISBN 0-78310-853-2 that was a reenactment of this actual trial. Citizens of Newton County need to be made aware that this Copy-Cat Prosecution has similarities that are so close and so identical to the McMartin Trials that it is terrifying knowing that human lives are at stake. However we encourage you to see it for yourself!
This is obviously a means of targeting and profiling to have these excessive charges (that didn't even have specific dates that the alleged molestation occurred) from non-credible witnesses launched against this honorable man, his wife and three ladies. There were no parents present during the questioning of the children and pertinent files that weren't passed over to the defense in regards to some of the charges and information on the so-called witnesses. Make note that the defense is being systematically blocked from seeing the actual files that the charges were grafted from. When you see the movie "Indictment" (ISBN 0783 10-853-2), you will see that these are some of the same mistakes that the prosecutors made in the McMartin case and thus the results should be the same; all defendants should be exonerated from all charges!!!! Many of the witnesses for the state have backed down once they saw these charges were nothing to play with and that an innocent man's life is at stake. They also know if anything ever happened to Rev. York as a result of the stress and anguish from these false charges that it will be something they would have to deal with for the rest of their lives! It is amazing to think that the prosecution feels that they are going to get away with this Copy-Cat Prosecution, which is all insult to the judicial system and insult to the citizens of Georgia. The defendants' lives will never be the same; they have already been defamed, humiliated and made a pariah all for fame and publicity You truly have to see it to believe it but the fact is they were ALL FOUND INNOCENT! Unsubstantiated reports of cannibalism disproportionately relate cases of cannibalism among cultures that are already otherwise despised, feared, or are little known. In antiquity, Greek reports of anthropophagy were related to distant, non-Hellenic barbarians, or else relegated in myth to the 'primitive' chthonic world that preceded the coming of the Olympian gods: see the explicit rejection of human sacrifice in the cannibal feast prepared for the Olympians by Tantalus of his son Pelops. In 1994, printed booklets reported that in a Yugoslavian concentration camp of Manjaca the Bosnian refugees were forced to eat each other's bodies.
William Arens, author of The Man-Eating Myth: Anthropology and Anthropophagy (New York : Oxford University Press, 1979; ISBN 0-19-502793-0), questions the credibility of reports of cannibalism and argues that the description by one group of people of another people as cannibals is a consistent and demonstrable ideological and rhetorical device to establish perceived cultural superiority. Arens bases his thesis on a detailed analysis of numerous "classic" cases of cultural cannibalism cited by explorers, missionaries, and anthropologists. His findings were that many were steeped in racism, unsubstantiated, or based on second-hand or hearsay evidence. In combing the literature he could not find a single credible eye-witness account. And, as he points out, the hallmark of ethnography is the observation of a practice prior to description. In the end he concluded that cannibalism was not the widespread prehistoric practice it was claimed to be; that anthropologists were too quick to pin the cannibal label on a group based not on responsible research but on our own culturally-determined pre-conceived notions, often motivated by a need to exoticize. He wrote:
"Anthropologists have made no serious attempt to disabuse the public of the widespread notion of the ubiquity of anthropophagists. ... in the deft hands and fertile imaginations of anthropologists, former or contemporary anthropophagists have multiplied with the advance of civilization and fieldwork in formerly unstudied culture areas. ...The existence of man-eating peoples just beyond the pale of civilization is a common ethnographic suggestion."
Aren's findings are controversial, and his argument is often mischaracterized as "cannibals do not and never did exist," when in the end the book is actually a call for a more responsible and reflexive approach to anthropological research. At any rate, the book ushered in an era of rigorous combing of the cannibalism literature. By Aren's later admission, some cannibalism claims came up short, others were reinforced.
Conversely, Michel de Montaigne's essay "Of cannibals" introduced a new multicultural note in European civilization. Montaigne wrote that "one calls 'barbarism' whatever he is not accustomed to." By using a title like that and describing a fair indigean society, Montaigne may have wished to provoke a surprise in the reader of his Essays.

The barn and family farm have always been a symbol of the American heartland. Ohio is a true symbol of the American heartland because it was the first state formed from the Northwest territory and it was established at about the same time as the Lewis and Clark Expedition began.
This farm may have been in the same family since Ohio began. Its original settlers, Lee Hurlburt and his father, Jacob, arrived in Ohio in about 1803 They moved into an abandoned log cabin in a cleared area on a squatter's abandoned site. The area was a wilderness having panther, wolves, bear, and buffalo.
Hurlburt was poor and illiterate and, thus, no writing in his own hand exists to tell of his time in the 1810-1820 period. The history books tell that Lee and his father, Jacob, had settled on his homestead beside Alum Creek before 1812. He then left for the War of 1812 in which he fought for around six months and returned to his homestead.
Around 1818, Hurlburt helped Bishop Philander Chase to clear land for what became Kenyon College (although it was built elsewhere).

A Photographic Essay of the Stilt-Walkers (Moko Jumbies) of Trinidad and Tobago
Seventeen years ago, Glen "Dragon" de Souza founded the Keylemanjahro School of Arts and Culture on the island of Trinidad in the Caribbean. The school's mission was to revive the almost forgotten West African tradition of the Moko Jumbie or "stilt-walker," and adopt it into the annual Carnival celebration. Not only would it restore a centuries-old tribal custom that had been squashed by colonialism and slavery, but also de Souza dreamed it would keep underprivileged children from street-life and drugs.
Today, more than one hundred Moko Jumbies‹boys and girls starting from the age of four years old‹practice at the Keylemanjahro School. Internationally recognized photographer Stefan Falke spent six years documenting these "dancing spirits" of Trinidad. With rare power, he captures the vivid costumes and haunting beauty of the Moko Jumbie dances in over 200 dazzling color photographs.
Moko Jumbies: The Dancing Spirits of Trinidad celebrates the success of this spectacular movement that has not only enriched the lives of its participants and all the people who live and visit Trinidad, but also the enduring culture of the island itself.
Stefan Falke was born in Germany in 1956. He abandoned his studies in civil engineering to follow a passion for documentary photography. His photographs and movie stills have been published in major international magazines and his work from the book has been shown at the international photojournalism festival 'Visa Pour L'Image' in Perpignan/France. He began talking pictures of the Moko Jumbies in 1997, a year after he had seen them for the first time in Trinidad. In 1999, he became a member of laif (www.laif.de ), one of the leading agencies for photojournalism, magazine and travel photography in Germany. He lives in New York City. This is his first book.

Già da bambino iniziò a mostrare un multiforme talento musicale; oltre ad essere un eccellente baritono, suonava il pianoforte, il violino, la viola, il contrabbasso, il clarinetto e la tuba.
Egli studiò musica alla Drake University e alla Northwest University nell'intento di dedicarsi all'insegnamento, ma appena laureato iniziò a studiare canto con la celebre soprano Rosa Ponselle. Nel 1960 esordì al Teatro Goldovsky nel ruolo di Masetto nel Don Giovanni di Mozart e nel 1961 al Teatro Ponselle di Baltimora nel ruolo di Gerard nell'Andrea Chenier di Giordano.
Nel 1964 fece un grosso salto di qualità approdando al New York City Opera dove interpretò il ruolo di Valentino nel Faust di Gounod. Un anno dopo, nel 1965, faceva il suo debutto al Teatro Metropolitan di New York nello stesso ruolo di Valentino.
Il 1964 era l'anno del suo debutto in Europa, dove, a Milano al Teatro Nuovo, debuttava nel ruolo di Figaro nel Barbiere di Siviglia di Rossini. Fu comunque l'interpretazione di Miller nella Luisa Miller di Verdi che lo rese celebre in tutto il mondo.
Nei primi anni del 1980 ebbe dei problemi con la voce che si risolsero comunque bene senza lasciare alcuno strascico.
Nel 1998 scrisse le sue memorie: American Aria (ISBN 0-02-864739-4) e dal 2001 si è dedicato alla scoperta di nuovi talenti.
Assieme alla moglie ha costituito nel 2001 la V.O.I.C. Experience. I loro corsi, ai quali sono invitati cantanti di successo, consentono ai giovani cantanti d'opera di perfezionarsi nell'interpretazione e nel canto. Questo consente loro di condividere le loro esperienze e di cantare con gli insegnanti.
