Shot on the frontlines of struggles spanning five continents, The Fourth World War is the untold human story of men and women (More) The Fourth World War takes viewers where the mainstream media cannot go. Shot on the frontlines of struggles spanning five continents, The Fourth World War is the untold human story of men and women who resist being annihilated in the current global conflict. While American airwaves are crowded with talk of a new world war, narrated by generals and filmed from the noses of bombs, the human face of war is rarely seen. The Fourth World War weaves together the images and voices of the war on the ground, from the front lines of struggles in Mexico, Argentina, South Africa, Palestine, Korea, 'the North' from Seattle to Genoa, and the 'War on Terror' in New York and Iraq.
The product of over two years of filming, The Fourth World War is a new kind of film for a new world. The intensity and immediacy of its images are beyond anything the mainstream media can shoot and the intimacy and passion of its stories are beyond anything it can feel. Directed and produced by the award winning New York-based Big Noise Films, and narrated by Tony Award winner Suheir Hammad and Singer Michael Franti of Spearhead, it is a radical story of hope and human connection in the face of a war that shatters and divides.
The immediacy and intensity of this footage does not come without its risks, however. Over the course of production Rowley and Soohen were clubbed and pepper-sprayed and their cameras were smashed in Genoa, Washington D.C., Geneva, and Quebec. They have been arrested in Italy, Baghdad, Israel, Geneva, and South Africa (where Soohen was quickly un-arrested by activists). Perhaps the most dramatic story from the film's production came in May 2002, when Jacqueline Soohen was one of a group of ten activists who broke the 180-day Israeli siege on the Church of the
Nativity in Bethlehem, racing past the tanks and sniper towers with food and a video camera. She was the only camera inside the church and filmed dozens of hours of video while snipers pinned them down, using .50 caliber rounds and infrared scopes to shoot through doors. After two weeks inside the church, living off of lemon leaves and lamp oil, she was arrested by Israeli soldiers and imprisoned on a hunger strike for 14 more days. Her footage was seized by the Israeli Army who sold parts of it to an Israeli producer working for the BBC.
Directors Rick Rowley and Jacquie Soohen are available to speak with the film.
The Fourth World War - Big Noise Films is available for theatrical runs, individual screenings, and institutional sale through Evil Twin Booking.

Inga is drawn to a house that reminds her of her childhood home, and here she realizes that many things in her life are coming full circle.
She wants to buy and restore an old house but her distant husband Hermann (Michael Gaston) sees little value in old houses or many of the things Inga loves and writes about. Inga's crumbling marriage is in stark contrast to her closeness with her 8-year-old daughter with whom she shares her hopes, fears and inner- most thoughts. By day their relationship seems magical, full of cloud watching, kite flying and lazy summer drives. But at night Inga is troubled by her marriage, it's lack of intimacy and her fears of her own mortality.
Now facing recent breast cancer Inga is using alcohol in much the same way as her mother's use of morphine to control her pain. Like many artists Inga's struggle is reflected in her poems, which she writes on scraps of paper and then discards. But it is in her own poems that she hears the echo of what her mother must have gone through and it is this revelation that allows Inga to transform.

Let's talk about pigs. They could be either 'Babe', the Mad Max of green prairies, or the allegorical boars in "Porcile", or, even of the same kind, the pigs that lead "The Revolution of Pigs", the magnificent debut film by Jaak Kilmi and Rene Reinumagi.
To try to imagine what an Estonian film would be like is the same as trying to imagine a film from Cyprus or a Somali one: there are few previous comparisons, so it is a useless effort. That is the reason why we give a complicit smile from the first shot of a film about summer camps, that reminds us of the initiation rites of puberty in films such as "Meatballs". It also gives us that sense of warm immediacy that "Fucking Amal" or "Together" provided - two features by the Swede Lukas Moodyson, with which it shares the same cheerful and unconcerned spirit, the same aims in discovery with some of the characters having the same desire to lose their virginity.
It is not strange then, at the Moscow International Film Festival, where it received a surprising Jury Special Prize, that both the critics and the audience reacted negatively, maybe because, over Duran Duran's greatest hits, behind the intimacy that tents provide shining as glow-worms in the night, a time for first loves and first drunkenness, "The Revolution of Pigs" throws several tons of rotten tomatoes in the face of the old Soviet communism, which oppressed the Baltic States. Pigs mean chaos, devouring the traces of a regime that applauded with so much enthusiasm the war of Afghanistan as much as the USA is now doing with the war in Iraq. Pigs are sniffing among the garbage. Pigs are the children of the revolution and, in this fortunate Estonian film, revolution must be by the young or not at all. Story

Set in the summer of 1986, hundreds of teenagers have gathered in the woods for Estonian student summer camp-three days full of adventures, falling in love and partying. But, when the teens are forced to comply with rules of proper behavior, camp in a totalitarian system isn't all it's cracked up to be. The political metaphor of the counselors' control leads to an uprising of the students. The main character is 16-year-old Tanel, who initially is as focused on losing his virginity and getting drunk as overthrowing the system. But taking part in the revolt, he discovers himself. More»n the summer of 1986, hundreds of teenagers have gathered in the woods for Estonian student summer camp-three days full of adventures, falling in love and partying. One of the few competition titles to generate international buzz at the Moscow film fest (where it won the Silver St. George special jury prize)... Sergi Sánchez - FIPRESCI Pig's Story By Sergi Sánchez Let's talk about pigs. They could be either 'Babe', the Mad Max of green prairies, or the allegorical boars in "Porcile", or, even of the same kind, the pigs that lead "The Revolution of Pigs", the magnificent debut film by Jaak Kilmi and Rene Reinumagi... ...over Duran Duran's greatest hits, behind the intimacy that tents provide shining as glow-worms in the night, a time for first loves and first drunkenness, "The Revolution of Pigs" throws several tons of rotten tomatoes in the face of the old Soviet communism, which oppressed the Baltic States. Pigs mean chaos, devouring the traces of a regime that applauded with so much enthusiasm the war of Afghanistan as much as the USA is now doing with the war in Iraq. Pigs are sniffing among the garbage. Pigs are the children of the revolution and, in this fortunate Estonian film, revolution must be by the young or not at all.... LASplash.com: Film Revolution of Pigs - Review By Paul J. Kowalski This feature debut from Rene Reinumagi and co-director Jaak Kilmi blends satire and comedy with a rare historical and political perspective. "Revolution of Pigs" appeals to a range of people and ages - despite its unique and captivating Estonian roots, the film's heart remains the age-old, universal struggle of youth versus adulthood, and ultimately the will for human freedom under the stranglehold of oppression..."Revolution of the Pigs" succeeds via the universally accessible vehicle of a common humanity.... 2008-04-21 16:08:03 Description: The Fourth World War takes viewers where the mainstream media cannot go. Perhaps the most dramatic story from the film's production came in May 2002, when Jacqueline Soohen was one of a group of ten activists who broke the 180-day Israeli siege on the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, racing past the tanks and sniper towers with food and a video camera.
