After unpacking the (More) Unpacking & Setting up the Tivax DTV converter box, part 1 of 2 parts, and the first 2 minutes and 20 seconds or so was a little messed up because the head needed cleaning. After unpacking the Tivax, I couldn't redo the video on that, and that's one "irritation" I have with the Sony HC52 Camcorder, and that is, almost every time I try to record anything, I need to clean the head. I start recording, then after pausing, then restarting the recording, it says to clean the head, but unkinown to me, what I had already recorded had been "messed up," so that's one thing I dislike about the HC52, and I suggest that you have a head cleaning tape for the HC52 handy, and I'll further say that I also suggest doing a head cleaning before recording anything, but even though they say not to clean the head more than 10 seconds at a time, and not more than 3 times in a row, I need to clean for at least 2 minutes before recording works good. I'm keeping the "bad" part of the recording, and maybe I'll do so every time I record, so then you'll see how often this occurs to me. (Less) Channel: youtube

While ZEN has the advantage of the bigger screen, radio tuner, voice recorder, wider format support and an SD expansion slot, it all seems to fade away when you have to deal with bugs and annoyances at almost every turn (slow to start, locks up if format not exactly right, cheap, awkward controls, screen doesn't turn off,...) Full list below:
Creative ZEN Pros:
- Can be used as external disk
- Supports drag and drop (copy/paste) to player
- SD expansion slot
- Sound recorder
- Radio tuner
- Credit card size
- 2.5" screen, 16.7 million colours (not bad if you don't see iPod Nano next to it)
- Comes in 16 and 32 GB models
- NOT an iPod ;)
Creative Zen Cons:
- Only 10 Euro cheaper than Nano 3G, or even same price (200 Euro) - 8GB version
- Design only OK, no match for iPod Nano
- Plastic front and back
- Considerably bigger and thicker that Nano 3G
- Supplied USB cable ridiculously short?!?!?
- Takes it's sweet time to turn on
- Starts charging EVERY time you connect it to PC (not good for battery life)
- Battery not user replaceable
- Controls feel cheap, bad tactile feedback
- Interface itself lacks style and grace, looks very plain indeed (can change colours)
- Screen resolution (320x240) not enough for the screen size (2.5")
- Picture therefore looks soft and dark scenes look very badly pixelated (like on cheap LCD monitors) although it could also be due to encoding (used best quality available on Creative's software), other scenes look very good though
- Screen doesn't turn off automatically, you have to lock the player first (annoying!!!)
- When music playback stops, even if the screen has been locked and turned off, it turns back on again and waits for you to do something even though you may not want to do anything and is wasting battery power
- Fast forwarding pauses the image (can't see where you are in the movie)
- Long software installation, bloated software (expect 116.88 MB of updates)
- Poor format support implementation, locks up if video format not exactly right
- Requires transcoding, which is SLOOOW on bundled software (slower than real time, i.e. a 40 minute video will take up to an hour to encode!!!
- If encoded with 3rd party software (WinAvi) goes out of sync and/or locks up even when you use the supposedly supported XviD and the proper resolution of 320x240!!!
- Audio browsing is very basic (you only see artist OR title OR album, not all at once)
- Stops playback after just one song in the genres, artist, album, song ... erratic, i.e. will play one or two then stop?!?! Only all tracks will keep playing?!?
- No UMS support
- Does not support gapless playback
- Photo viewing slow/sluggish (could be due to large file sizes, 10 mega pixels)
- SD card does not integrate into Library, Favourites, ...
- Ear jack can't power high end ear monitors (i.e. Etymotic 4)
- Sometimes large files (cca. 1h+) go out bit of sync (even when encoded with creative's own converter!)
- No Bluetooth, no WiFi
- Bad, bad name choice (search brings back all other Zens, i.e. Vision M, Stone, Stone Plus, V Plus,...) makes looking for reviews, accessories, support, whatever a pain
- "Viral marketing" on the internet (fake review: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/53466/apple_ipod_nano_versus_creative_zen.html?page=3)
- ZEN's firmware version in this review 1.31.01e

This is pretty simple to install, we (More) Today we are going to do an install on part number 18002 four pole flat electrical connector the 60 inch long version. We are installing this on a 1999 Dodge Neon. This is pretty simple to install, we do have to hardwire the wires but you do not have to worry about a Modulite or a converter box as it is a standard two wire system. This will be pretty straight forward, test the wires and hook up to the appropriate code and we will be set.
On this vehicle all the wiring is inside the trunk so we need to get into the trunk and get behind the carpeting to get behind the taillights. On this vehicle the wiring is actually routed on both sides so what is going to happen is that we are going to make both of our connections, the running light, left turn, and the ground, on this side and then we will run an extension wire to to the other side, the passenger side, to pick up the right turn signal that way. What needs to happen is that we need to take this carpet away from here, off this pin and we will have to take out this plastic valance too. Starting on the drivers side, we are going to take this connector apart and probe the inside to see what color does what function and then we will trace it back through here and do the actual tap in back here. Ok, we will start testing our wires. We will have to ground our tester and there is a factory ground right here we can actually use. We will check it out by testing in here what wire does what. Currently right now we have on the left turn signal and the running lights. The running lights are going to be that wire there, the black or brown with a yellow stripe. That is the left turn signal, the green with the red stripe. Lets go back over here, there is our wire and we will go ahead and make our connection right now. This kit comes with scotch locks which simply slide over one wire then you slide the wire you want to connect to next to it. Shove it up all the way because there is a stop in there then take your pliers and just crimp them together. Give it a tug to make sure you have a good connection and then check the other end, so we know that circuit is good. Then we will go back to our turn signal, that was the green with the red stripe, again lets double check. Yellow is going to be our left turn and we will check at the other end to make sure. We are going to connect our ground wire up and instead of splicing into it we have this handy ground up here from the factory and we will actually connect to that. To do that we are going to install a ring terminal and then we will just connect it up there. The ring terminal does not come with this so you will need to get that separate. With our green wire we will have to run a jumper to the passengers side and then we will make our connection just like we did over here. Before I forget we will go ahead and plug this back onto the taillight. This light green wire is going to be the jumper going over to the passenger side, again this does not come with the kit so you will have to come up with this separately, any scrap wire will work. Since we did not use a scotch lock for our ground wire we have an extra and we can use that to make our connections here an on the other side. Then we will take our jumper wire and tuck and run it to the other side, all the panels will hide it and keep it in place. Again, we will take this connector apart and look for our right turn signal wire, light brown and red. We will make our connection to that with our scotch lock. Now we will go back to the end of our four pole and test to make sure our connection is good. OK, we have our right turn signal set. At this point we will secure our wires and put our trunk back together and then we are set.
Now we have our trunk reassembled and the wire working properly and we will show you how you are actually supposed to use it. We did not run it outside because most of the time the wiring is in the trunk and you are not going to be pulling all of the time. Go ahead and leave it in the trunk when you are not using it. When you do need to use it just pull it out and you can see this rubber seal will actually give way and then we will shut our trunk on it and we can just pull out as much as we need. The wire is not getting messed up when we are not using it being left outside getting corroded up or anything and you can actually tuck it behind the liner in your trunk. That finishes our install for part number 18002.
Videos are provided as a guide only. Refer to manufacturer
installation instructions and specs for complete information. (Less) Channel: youtube

Only all tracks will keep playing?!? - No UMS support - Does not support gapless playback - Photo viewing slow/sluggish (could be due to large file sizes, 10 mega pixels) - SD card does not integrate into Library, Favourites, ... - Ear jack can't power high end ear monitors (i.e. Etymotic 4) - Sometimes large files (cca. 1h+) go out bit of sync (even when encoded with creative's own converter!) - No Bluetooth, no WiFi - Bad, bad name choice (search brings back all other Zens, i.e. Vision M, Stone, Stone Plus, V Plus,...) makes looking for reviews, accessories, support, whatever a pain - "Viral marketing" on the internet (fake review: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/53466/apple_ipod_nano_versus_creative_zen.html?page=3) - ZEN's firmware version in this review 1.31.01e - Time of review mid December 2007 - Remember, keep a paper clip handy!!!
