Here's more evidence that ATWT is becoming comedic. Here's the setup: Brad is getting married to Katie, and Gay Henry (Katie's ex and Maddie's brother) is helping Brad buy a tuxedo. And yes, Gay Henry is wearing one of his gay shirts. For those who don't remember, it was Henry who told Maddie that Noah was gay after learning it from Win. And it was Henry who told Luke not to move into a dorm or apartment with Noah. That resulted in Noah moving to Emma's farm which meant no Nuke Lovin'. Bad Henry! A few notes: Brad is Luke's goofy fratboy cousin. At a party given by Lily in honor of Brad's return, he made a gay joke without realizing that Luke was gay. It was pretty mild; Brad made effeminate gestures when describing interior designers and called them "twinkle toes." Lily went nuts and threw Brad out. Holden and Luke later told Lily that she over-reacted. The scene was meant to show two things: 1) Lily's diet pill addiction made her unstable; 2) Lily still felt a lot of guilt over initially rejecting Luke's homosexuality, so she became overprotective. Luke seemed fine with Brad at the time. Then several months later, from seemingly out of the blue, Luke let Brad have it at WOAK. He made it clear that he was not okay with Brad's "twinkle toes" comment and refused to accept Brad's apology. In truth, Brad was more of a goofy fratboy than a homophobe. Luke was in a bad mood because he just lost an academic prize that he deserved. Apparently, a homophobic teacher felt that Luke would set a bad example because he's gay. When Brad heard this, he saw a chance to redeem himself with Luke. Brad tricked the teacher into thinking that he won a teacher's award from WOAK. When the man arrived, Brad threatened to beat him up unless Luke was given the prize. Brad was then arrested. His rival (and now fiancée) Katie first reacted with glee. In fact, she went to thank the teacher. But when she heard his story, she realized what a good heart Brad had and even posted his bail. That marked a turning point in their rocky relationship. For me, the most interesting question is whether Luke ever found out what Brad did. There have been no significant scenes between the two after the argument at WOAK. I like Brad and actor Austin Peck, for the most part. Despite the goofball role, Peck is known to be a wonderful father and family man. Unfortunately, he is also VERY religious. Peck is a frequent guest on religious talk shows and runs a Christian youth camp. In his CBS bio, he answered "What would you do with a time machine?" with, "Go see the Second Coming of Christ." (I'm paraphrasing) Everyone else gave more lighthearted answers. All of this is fine BUT he gave one answer that really annoyed me. The question was, "What turns you off the most about a date?" He answered something like, "If she is an atheist." Whoa! Again, most people gave fun answers but he chose to bash a whole class of people. I wonder how Peck can be so religious yet take one of the most sexual roles on TV. His character was designed to evoke lust among female (and male) viewers. Hence the frequent bare chest and sex scenes. In fact, he's the only ATWT character I've seen in revealing square briefs. And only Brad would take off his shirt to size a tuxedo (in a scene a few months back). Just some food for thought... (Less)
