Born: October 12, 1945 Dusty Rhodes By Steve Slagle Dusty Rhodes is without a doubt one of the most charismatic, entertaining, and famous wrestlers of all-time. During his 1970's and early-1980's prime, he was second only to Andre The Giant (and some would say Andre was second only to Dusty Rhodes) in terms of world wide fame and fan support. Dusty was probably the most loved wrestler in the sport from the mid-1970's throughout the 1980's, consistently drawing exceptionally large crowds wherever he wrestled, be it the N.W.A (and later, WCW), the WW(W)F, the A.W.A, Japan, or anywhere else the nomadic grappler roamed during his 20+ year career. There was something different about the fast talking, down-to-earth "son of a plumber" that endeared him to wrestling fans everywhere. His non-stop traveling between regional and national promotions helped him become one of the top 5 drawing cards in wrestling during his years in the ring. Outside of the ring, he proved himself to be a unique and influential -- as well as controversial -- booker on several occassions in the NWA/WCW. Dusty Rhodes truly was "The American Dream"...the regular guy who made it big. Really big. But despite the overwhelming popularity Dusty enjoyed during his prime, the rotund grappler from Austin, TX. didn't always have such a loving relationship with the fans... He first gained notoriety in the sport as part of the legendary rulebreaking team The Texas Outlaws with his longtime friend/enemy/friend "Dirty" Dick Murdoch during the mid/late 1960's. The two rugged Texans were despised for their cheating tactics and disrespectful actions towards the fans. But like they say -- in wrestling, the more they hate you...the more they love you! Brawling and (usually) cheating their way to several Tag Team titles, The Outlaws were certainly one of wrestling's most hated duos! But when, after several very successful years as a team, the two friends parted ways to pursue solo careers...Murdoch went on to achieve great success across the world. But Dusty...he would go on to even greater heights, and eventually became the most popular wrestler in the sport until Hulk Hogan. In the years after The Outlaws, "Stardust" went on to become one of wrestling's most-traveled competitors. He often wrestled in 2, 3, even 4 different territorial promotions at once. For most of 1979, Dusty had top spot's in the Top 10 of the NWA, AWA, and WWWF simultaneously. It truly was a different time and climate in the sport, and "The American Dream" was on top of the world... The flamboyant "American Dream" engaged in long, bitter, and bloody feuds (all of which invariably drew record attendance) with some of the biggest names ever...Harley Race, Superstar Graham, The Funk Family, Dick The Bruiser and The Crusher, Ivan and Nikita Koloff, Nick Bockwinkle, Stan Hansen, Bruiser Brody, Ric Flair and (numerous incarnations of) The Four Horsemen, Dick Slater, Kevin Sullivan, Bill Watts, Ted Dibiase, Randy Savage, and many, many more. An N.W.A. North American (Hawaii) title, N.W.A. North American (Mid South) title, N.W.A. Mid South U.S. Tag Team title (w/Andre), 10 Florida Heavyweight championships, 2 Florida Tv titles, 4 Florida Tag Team titles, 1 Georgia Heavyweight title, 7 Southern Heavyweight titles, 1 Mid Atlantic TV title, 1 N.W.A. National Heavyweight title, 2 NWA/WCW World 6-Man Tag Team titles, 1 NWA/WCW U.S. Heavyweight title, and 3 NWA/WCW World TV titles were among the dozens of championships he won throughout his career. But Dusty always craved "the Big One"... the N.W.A. World Heavyweight Championship. After years of "missing it by that much" do to cheating titleholders and bad luck, Dusty's childhood dream would finally come true. Three different times... Dusty's first N.W.A. World Title reign was a true heartbreaker. After 3 years of wrestling Harley Race all across the country and losing each time do to count out's, DQ's, or Race's cheating, on August 21, 1979 Dusty Rhodes finally defeated Race and became World Champion. The victory sent shockwaves through the wrestling world...but Dusty's reign was not to be... After making 3 successful N.W.A. title defenses (a rematch with Race, and defenses against Terry Funk and Don Muraco) Dusty was set to engage in another rematch with former champion Harley Race on August 26, 1979. But before the match could start, a crazed Terry Funk stormed the ring and, in one of his most famous "sneak attacks" ever, Funk broke Dusty's arm with a knee from the top rope. A disgusted Race nailed Funk with a right to the jaw and even offered to reschedule the match. Dusty refused, saying he didn't want to disappoint the fans. But disappointed they were...Rhodes went on to lose the NWA belt back to Race that night, ending Dusty's 1st World title reign after just 5 days... Dusty would bounce back, though, and 2 years later he again defeated Race for the NWA World title on June 21, 1981 in Atlanta, GA. Dusty defended the title 4 to 5 nights per week during his 2nd reign, and it was that heavy schedule that would help end his it after just 4 months. After being injured by The Assassins the night before, Dusty entered a Kansas City ring on September 17, 1981 to face the young and talented "Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Flair overwhelmed the injured champion, and defeated Rhodes for the title. Rhodes would even the score a few years later, though, defeating Flair on July 25, 1986 for the NWA championship. But Flair, and the constant interference of the Four Horsemen, would prove to be too much for Dusty, and Flair regained his title on August 7, 1986. After a prestigious career in the NWA/WCW, Dusty left his "home" of so many years, and after dabbling in the Florida independent scene for a short time, he ended up in the World Wrestling Federation where, despite the embarrassing "Plumber Man", "Pizza Man", and "Potty Man" video segments he was forced to film upon entering the WWF, he was again extremely popular with the fans. The ovations he received when entering the ring were nearly as loud, if not louder, than those usually reserved by the fans for Hulk Hogan. No matter where he went, fans loved this blue-collar hero, and Dusty became one of the WWF's biggest attractions. Dusty introduced his debuting son Dustin to WWF fans (although he had made his true wrestling debut in Dusty's Florida-based PWF promotion) and the two formed a team to fight "The Million Dollar Man"...but they soon left the WWF to return "home" to WCW. Dustin has gone on to carve his own niche' as a champion and personality in the sport... while Dusty retired (more or less) from the ring after his last WWF stint and returned to WCW, where he worked behind the scenes. Whether as the controversial head booker, a high-profile announcer, or the more ambiguous "creative consultant," Rhodes always left his mark on the promotion. Fittingly, Rhodes was inducted into the WCW Hall of Fame on May 25, 1995 after nearly 30 years in the wrestling business. After another nearly 10-year run with WCW, Dusty eventually parted ways with his longtime employer in the fall of `99. Not long afterward, he made big waves once again by making a shocking appearance in E.C.W. It seems that, as always, Dusty is a lot more resiliant (and smarter) than people give him credit for. The Ring Chronicle proudly inducts "The American Dream", the "working man's champion," pro wrestling legend and legitimate creative force, Dusty Rhodes, into T.R.C.'s Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame......... Rhodes started his career as a rule-breaking heel, tagging with fellow Texan Dick Murdoch to form the tag team The Texas Outlaws in the American Wrestling Association.[2] In 1974, Rhodes turned face after turning on tag team partner Pak Song and manager Gary Hart during a match in Florida against Eddie and Mike Graham, leading him to break out as a solo babyface superstar, primarily in Florida, referring to himself as "Stardust", the "White Soul King", and the "American Dream", a working class hero. Rhodes ascended to the top of several National Wrestling Alliance promotions in Florida (where he also wrestled wearing a mask as The Midnight Rider), Georgia, and eventually with Jim Crockett Promotions in the Mid-Atlantic, which was the forerunner of World Championship Wrestling. Here, he formed teams with Manny Fernandez, Magnum T.A. as "America's Team", and Nikita Koloff as The Super Powers. Rhodes was a World 6-Man Tag Team Champion with the Road Warriors. Currently, Rhodes is working as a booker and making occasional appearances for World Wrestling Entertainment. Feuds Rhodes had legendary feuds with stars such as Abdullah the Butcher, Pak Song, Terry Funk, Kevin Sullivan, Blackjack Mulligan, Nikita Koloff, Harley Race, "Superstar" Billy Graham, "Crippler" Ray Stevens and most notably, The Four Horsemen (especially Ric Flair and Tully Blanchard). Rhodes, Flair, and Race each fought each other many times over the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Rhodes won the NWA World Title three times; twice by defeating Race (in 1979 and 1981) and once by defeating Flair (1986). Booking Rhodes was also a booker for WCW (which was then known as Jim Crockett Promotions) while they were competing with the World Wrestling Federation (now known as World Wrestling Entertainment) after he won the Television Title in 1985. He is credited with inventing many of the WCW pay-per-view names and gimmicks, such as War Games, BattleBowl, and Lethal Lottery. The term Dusty Finish refers to one of Rhodes' favorite techniques, ending a match in controversy after the referee is knocked unconscious. Dismissal from JCP He was fired from Jim Crockett Promotions at the end of 1988 because of a taboo on-screen bloodletting (laid down by Turner Broadcasting following their purchase of the company) during an altercation with the Road Warriors. Rhodes booked an angle where Road Warrior Animal pulled a spike out of his shoulder pad and jammed it in Rhodes' eye busting it wide open. Rhodes was then fired from WCW. Following this, Rhodes returned to Florida to compete in Florida Championship Wrestling, where he captured the PWF Heavyweight title, and also returned to the AWA for a few appearances. World Wrestling Federation Rhodes came to the WWF as the yellow polka-dotted "Common Man" Dusty Rhodes, a gimmick some felt was intended to humiliate him, although it would later come out in the words of Dusty himself that the gimmick and outfit were his own ideas. He was managed by Sapphire. During his time in the WWF, Rhodes was embroiled in a heated feud with Randy Savage and his manager/partner Sensational Queen Sherri who in turn found a rival in Sapphire. After a particularly intense confrontation between the two couples, Savage's girlfriend Miss Elizabeth allied herself with Rhodes and Sapphire and was instrumental in helping them win the WWF's first mixed tag-team match during WrestleMania VI. However, Sapphire left Rhodes during SummerSlam 1990 for The Million-Dollar Man's money, which resulted in a feud with the latter, which also resulted in the national debut of his son Dustin. Both would depart the WWF in January 1991, marking the end of Dusty Rhodes' career as a full-time in-ring competitor. When Ric Flair left for the WWF in 1991, taking the NWA World Heavyweight Title belt with him, Dusty's old Florida Heavyweight Championship belt was used as a replacement at The Great American Bash for the title match between Lex Luger and Barry Windham until a replacement could be made. Return to WCW and ECW Rhodes returned to WCW shortly afterwards as a member of WCW's booking committee and later joined the broadcast team, usually working with Tony Schiavone on WCW Saturday Night. He would be paired with Schiavone and Bobby Heenan on pay-per-views. Mike Jones's Virgil character in the World Wrestling Federation was named, at the suggestion of Bobby Heenan, as an inside joke on Dusty's real name. When Jones jumped to World Championship Wrestling, Heenan continued the joke by suggesting Jones's WCW character's name be made "Vincent", in reference to WWF owner Vince McMahon. The joke continued later in WCW when Jones changed his name again, this time to Shane, the same as Vince's son's, Shane McMahon. In 1994, Rhodes would return to the ring to team up with his son Dustin along with The Nasty Boys versus Arn Anderson, Bunkhouse Buck, Terry Funk, and Col. Rob Parker. The angle occurred after Anderson turned on Dustin during a tag team match at Bash At The Beach '94 and Dusty, admitting to being an absentee parent who should have been at his son's side instead of Anderson, put on the trunks one more time in order to help his son gain his revenge. Rhodes was originally on the side of WCW in its battle with the nWo began in 1996. At Souled Out 1998, Larry Zbyszko asked Rhodes, who was working the PPV broadcast, to accompany him to the ring for his match against Scott Hall. Zbyszko won the match by disqualification due to interference by the nWo, but in the postmatch melee Rhodes turned on Zbyszko and joined the nWo in a shocking moment that actually forced Schiavone off the broadcast in shock; he would later return, ripping Rhodes for his actions for most of the rest of the night (kayfabe). He eventually left WCW and went to ECW where he put over former ECW Champion, "King of Old School" Steve Corino. Rhodes returned once more to WCW, re-igniting his feud with Ric Flair. Total Nonstop Action Wrestling He appeared on Total Nonstop Action Wrestling shows, becoming the Director of Authority at their November 7 pay-per-view, TNA Victory Road 2004. At the same time, Rhodes acted as head booker and writer. In May 2005, TNA President Dixie Carter asked Rhodes to move onto a creative team, which would have included several other names, including Jeremy Borash, Bill Banks, and Scott D'Amore. Rhodes resigned as booker, waiting out the rest of his contract with TNA, which expired soon after. Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling For several years, Rhodes operated Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling, a small Georgia-based promotion, featuring wrestlers trained by himself alongside veterans such as Steve Corino.[3] WWE Legends and Hall of Fame In September 2005 Rhodes signed a WWE Legends deal and was brought onto the Creative Team as a "creative consultant". He made an appearance on the October 3, 2005 WWE Homecoming in which he, along with other legends, beat down Rob Conway, to whom Rhodes delivered a signature Bionic elbow.[4] Dusty Rhodes was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on March 31, 2007 by his two sons, Dustin and Cody. During his acceptance speech, Rhodes asked Ric Flair and Arn Anderson to hold up the "sign" and induct he and Harley Race into the Four Horsemen. [2] During an interview on WWE's The American Dream DVD set, Rhodes claims that his most popular promo of all time was his "Hard Times" interview during his feud with Ric Flair. The promo -- which references out-of-work steel workers, factory runners and other blue collar individuals -- apparently resonated so strongly with wrestling fans that people came to him in arenas in tears to thank him for "honoring their plight." Return to the ring A few weeks before WWE's 2007 broadcast of the Great American Bash, Dusty Rhodes returned to WWE television to feud with Randy Orton. At The Great American Bash, Randy Orton defeated Rhodes in a Texas Bullrope Match after Dusty was nailed in the head with the cowbell. The following night on RAW, after Randy Orton defeated Dusty's son Cody Rhodes, Orton delivered a vicious kick to his head while "The American Dream" was trying to tend to his son. Here's a well-known fact:
Both Vince Carter and Jason Kidd had triple doubles in the same game on April 8, 2007. The last teammates to achieve this rare feat were Jordan and Pippen in January 1989.
Both of these were overtime games.
Here's a not well-known fact:
In a game in December 1990, not two but three players were literally on the brink of a triple double.
Jordan: 33pts, 15rbs, 9asts, 2stls, 1blk
Magic: 18pts, 9rbs, 14asts
Pippen: 28pts, 11rbs, 9asts, 3stls
Yes, no actual triples doubles there but they're as close as they can get. And since this wasn't even an overtime game, one could argue this is as good as those games, possibly even better because of the third player.
Besides, it's really a great game full of amazing assists, drives, offensive rebounds, steals, hustle plays and so on.
Jordan not only have some amazing assists but he also goes crazy on the boards. In his career, he has 8 regular-season games with 15+ rebounds and this is one of them. 8 of his 15 rebounds are offensive, Lakers as a team has 10 off. rebounds.
As for the game itself, it's a pretty close game until the last 4-5 minutes. Then the Bulls tightens the defense and Lakers finish without a point in the last ~4 minutes. Jordan scores 11 of his points in the 4th, including the Bulls' last 7 points.
This is also Magic's last regular season game in Chicago before announcing his retirement in 1991.
I'd like to see an English version some day. Until then, here it is.
Enjoy...
Post game notes & quotes:
===========================
CHICAGO -- Michael Jordan did not have to shoulder the scoring burden alone Friday night. And the result was a 114-103 Bulls victory over a tough Los Angeles Lakers team.
As usual, Jordan did the lion's share. He scored 33 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, both game-high honors, and had nine assists to send home happy a standing-room Stadium crowd of 18,676.
Unlike Wednesday night when Jordan was the only Bull to score double figures in a 105-84 loss to the Detroit Pistons, this time his fellow starters supported him.
Scottie Pippen contributed 28 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. He and Jordan each fell one assist shy of a triple double. Bill Cartwright and John Paxson each scored 14 points and Horace Grant 11. The Bulls shot 55.7 percent from the field and enjoyed a 46-33 edge in rebounding.
Forwards James Worthy and Sam Perkins paced the Lakers with 21 and 20 points, respectively.
Magic Johnson had 18 points, 14 assists and nine rebounds.
"Give our team credit for bouncing back," Jordan said. "People played tonight the way we need to play to win. After a tough game and a terrible loss in Detroit, you have to bounce back. We went against a good team and played well."
Jordan hopes his team's balance is as good tonight when the Bulls (16-9) play the Indiana Pacers (10-16) at the Stadium.
"In the end, poor rebounding killed us," Laker forward Perkins said. "We gave up too many offensive boards and on the transition we turned the ball over too much. That's uncharacteristic of us. And they just capitalized on our mistakes and poor rebounding."
The Lakers, despite their worst start in 12 years, were no patsies. They streaked 9-0 to wipe out a 4-0 opener by the Bulls. It wasn't until after they had forced 10 ties and 14 lead changes that the Bulls were able to take command for keeps. That was in the mid-third when they broke a tie at 75 with a 7-2 run for an 82-77 lead.
The Lakers hung tough in the third with effective long-range artillery bombing the Bulls' defense with five three-pointers to tie a record for Bulls' opponents in a quarter set by the New York Knicks on March 4, 1989. Perkins hit two of the threes.
"We needed a boost," Perkins said, "and I was just trying to give us one. We kept up with them for a while."
Those threes were taken because that's pretty much what the Bulls' interior defense was forcing on the Lakers.
"We'll take the threes when they are there," Worthy said. "But usually as a last resort. Those threes came from getting into the offense too slow. That was just one of our problems. We had some inconsistency in executing, a problem that happened to us early in the season and I thought we were over it."
The key for the Bulls was poise down the stretch as they put the ball in Jordan's hands. He scored 11 of his points in the fourth to hold back a Laker rally that pulled within six at 109-103 on Worthy's free throw with 4:05 to play.
The Bulls' defense stiffened and held the Lakers scoreless the rest of the way as Jordan ended scoring with five consecutive free throws.
"Michael took over in the end, which you knew eventually would happen," Johnson said. "We play them hard here but just can't seem to get a win."
The Lakers haven't won in the Stadium since Nov. 28, 1986. They are last in the NBA in forcing turnovers. First in defensive rebounds.
"We tried to make it tough on Jordan," Lakers coach Mike Dunleavy said. "We broke our rules on how to cover him and it cost us. The book on the Bulls is to make them shoot from the outside. But we just gave them too many second shots, offensive rebounds and let them get the timely loose balls and jump balls."
"Our offense executed well,' Bulls coach Phil Jackson said. "Our people off the bench performed and played well, and we got a lot of distance out of them. It was a good, solid game.'

Best time as Raphael: Hard mode 0:22:31 by Mike Uyama on 14.03.06.
Author's comments:
-Played at the hardest difficulty
-No deaths
-Recorded using an snes and a VCR
-As always, thanks go to Nate for capturing.
A big thanks to Nitsuja for not only making a TAS that demonstrated a lot of good strategies, both stage and boss, but going so far as to give me a complete list of damage values and enemy hp for this game. I honestly don't think this run would be anywhere near as good without his help.
To be honest I'm not satisfied with this run. I would be satisfied if my craptacular run of stage 9 didn't exist and I didn't make about a billion slide errors, but I realized I don't have that much time left until I go back to Japan. The only reason why I accepted this run is because it is a faster than the one that is currently up, and I'm becoming very irritated with game. I really hate to do this, but I will improve it sometime later, sorry.
Yet another mini-FAQ from me.
Q: Why did you only submit a run with Raphael?
A: He is by far the most powerful out of all the turtles. He is the the only who can kill purple foot soldiers and roadkill rodneys (those unicycle robots that lasso you) in one hit without resorting to slam throwing. He also has the most powerful special and dash special (dash, hit the special button) out of all the turtles. Having the fastest walk speed never hurts either. I might do a run with Don or Mike someday since they have their good points, but a Leo run is very low on my list of priorities, he flat-out sucks.
Q: hy don't you constantly slam throw/wall throw every foot soldier?
A: When you kill a foot soldier by slamming him you not only have to wait for the slamming animation to complete, you also have to wait for the foot soldier to bounce up a bit, then explode. Foot soldiers won't always run into your slam throw either. Wall throwing is good against one or two foot soldiers because it gets rid of them very quickly, but inefficient against a group of foot soldiers because you can only throw one at a time.
Q: Why do the foot soldiers in the Shredder battle have shields?
A: Konami wanted to do something other than add more enemies to make hard mode more difficult, so they decided to be pricks and give the foot soldiers shields when you fight Shredder in hard mode.
Q: You score 0 points in both bonus stages. Why must you torture us with boredom?
A: It adds time counting up points during the bonus stages, and I care about making a fast run, not gaining points.
Q: How did you take no damage when the stone soldier shot you in the sixth stage?
A: I have no idea, it made the boss battle easier on me though (especially since I fucked it up).
Stage comments:
Stage 1: Went fine, only error was slam throwing a foot soldier when I should have specialed (for some reason you can't wall throw it)
Baxter: Died without a hitch.
Stage 2: I lost time on the first roadkill rodney spawn because I couldn't successfully run past a blue soldier, costing me a couple of seconds because I had to kill him.
Metalhead: Nothing wrong here
Stage 3: Not much to comment on except the Rat King is a bastard (watch what he does when he dies).
Stage 4: I had a pretty piss-poor start, taking a while to kill enemies, but other than that I think the stage went well.
Tokka and Rahzar: You can't deny this battle looks damn good.
Shredder: Despite this battle being random and irritating, I managed to get a great battle.
Stage 5: Nothing went wrong except for the stone warriors, I couldn't group any of them together so I had to kill them individually. This is actually my fault and not random because where they initially shoulder charge is based on my position, and if I'm in the correct position they will merge together while shoulder charging.
Slash: I could be wrong, but I think I killed him faster than the TAS.
Stage 6: My first big mistake was with the first group of stone warriors. Again, I positioned myself incorrectly so instead of charging together they charged separately in a straight line. I was able to skip one though so I don't think I lost too much time.
My other big mistake (and I admit I probably should have restarted here considering all of my other mistakes) was when a foot soldier kicked me in the back, and I was afraid of dying so I took a couple of seconds to collect the pizza.
Rocksteady and Bebop: I kind of fucked this up. The normal slash I used was supposed to be a shoulder charge. This forced me to hit Rocksteady one more time than I was used to. I hesitate on the last hit because I thought I didn't have enough life to perform another special (I was hit by a stone warrior right before the boss)
Stage 7: The only significant mistake was failing to skip the stone warrior by the first pizza. Other than that, I think this is a solid run of the stage.
Leatherhead: Nothing went wrong here.
Stage 8: I actually goofed on my Super Krang battle a bit, but it didn't cost me any time.
Stage 9: I am not going to deny that I should have stopped the run here and simply made another attempt, this is one of the worst attempts at stage 9 ever. I make various mistakes throughout the stage, but the biggest one is screwing up using the metal ball against the stone warriors. I decided to take them on without the metal ball since it was so late in the game, but I didn't know where they would spawn from so they shoulder charged me not once, but twice. This mistake alone cost me at least 20 seconds, and it really sticks out too.
Krang: This is the second reason why I should have quit my run. My luck here was horrible. Once he appears a third time, he decides to never float low enough so I can special him. I'm forced to use jump kicks until he appears for the fifth or sixth time when he would die in one or two hits from jump kicks anyways.
Super shredder: My luck wasn't the greatest ever, but it was good. I managed to get him in the corner once so I could dash special him, and after I got down to one bar of life he decides to use something other than his red flames, allowing me to hit him.
I think this run could be improved by at least 30 seconds with a better ninth stage, which is pretty horrible considering the ninth stage is only about 10% of the game. I think the other stages have somewhere around 40-60 seconds of mistakes total. I will get around to improving this run someday, just not anytime soon. (Less)

Smith won't hesitate to shoot jumpers, though, if the Atlanta Hawks need a big basket.
``I'm not a three-point shooter,'' he said, ``but if it comes to me, I'll take it.''
Mike Bibby hit a tying three-pointer in regulation, Smith made two in overtime, and the Hawks beat the Toronto Raptors 127-120 on Wednesday night for their fifth straight victory.
Atlanta increased its lead for the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot to four games over Indiana, which lost 92-77 at Boston.
Toronto is tied for fifth place with Washington and Philadelphia, but Raptors coach Sam Mitchell might file a protest with the NBA after the officials discounted T.J. Ford's basket with no time remaining.
Mitchell argued with referee Mark Wunderlich, who watched the instant replay, that Philips Arena officials started the clock early with just 0.5 seconds remaining.
``We had some opportunities tonight, but things just didn't go our way in the end,'' Mitchell said. ``Sometimes these things happen.''
Smith's three-pointer from the right side, making it 114-113 with 2:05 left in overtime, gave the Hawks their first lead since Josh Childress hit a pair of free throws with 4:25 left in the second quarter.
Chris Bosh's three-point play put Atlanta back ahead with 1:18 to play, but Bibby followed with a three before Josh Childress blocked Ford's jump shot. Smith's three from nearly the same spot as his previous attempt made it 122-118.
Ford thought his basket at the end of regulation should've counted. The Hawks were fooled badly on the play, which was designed for Ford to line up at the top of the key and run toward Carlos Delfino and catch an inbounds pass.
Instead, Ford ran easily into the lane and jumped for Delfino's alley-oop pass. The officials originally ruled that Ford banked in his basket as the horn sounded.
``I thought it could go either way,'' Ford said. ``I didn't want to get too excited.''
Bosh had 24 points for Toronto, and Ford finished with 23 points and 13 assists. Rasho Nesterovic scored 21 points and reserve guard Jose Calderon handed out 10 assists for the Raptors.
Joe Johnson led the Hawks with 28 points. Bibby had 26 and Smith finished with 24. Bibby and Johnson combined for 23 assists. Al Horford pulled down 11 rebounds.
Bibby forced overtime with a three-pointer from the left corner, taking Childress' inbound bounce pass from the baseline and faking out Ford.
Not one to show much emotion, Bibby denied that he celebrated with a little dance.
``It was a walk,'' he said with a smile. ``My mom will not like it.''
Leading by 17 on Nesterovic's runner with 1:09 left in the third, Toronto had almost nothing go right after Jamario Moon's 18-footer gave it a 105-98 lead with 5:19 remaining.
The Raptors made just one basket in their last nine possessions of regulation _ a six-foot runner by Ford that gave them a 107-104 lead with 1:32 left.
Toronto was 15-for-20 from the field in the third quarter, led by Anthony Parker's 4-for-4, before everyone but Ford and Bosh went cold.
``When you're on the road playing in a tough environment, you have to execute,'' Bosh said. ``The Hawks have been playing very well, and we knew they would make a run. We did a pretty good job withstanding the run, but everything just didn't fall our way tonight. I wouldn't take anything away from Atlanta. They played hard tonight.''
For Smith, who grew up in Atlanta and entered the NBA straight from high school, winning a tight game was just what the playoff-starved Hawks needed.
``We're confident,'' Smith said. ``We feel good about ourselves. We feel like the sky's the limit for this team. We're not taking nights off.''
Notes: With a 35-40 record, Atlanta matched its highest victory total since 2002-03. ... The Hawks, who haven't made the playoffs since 1999, will put first-round tickets on sale Saturday. ... They beat the Raptors for the first time in five tries. ... Nesterovic's three-pointer at the end of the first quarter was his first in 11 career regular-season attempts. (Less)

Mon 21st Apr 2008 - Dry Leas
London Wasps are in the driving seat of the Guinness Premiership 'A' League final at the halfway stage, having scored five tries in their 34-3 victory over the Wanderers at Dry Leas. The bulk of the scoring was in the first half, and the raft of Academy youngsters who saw action after the break came out of the game with plenty of credit. Barry Everitt kicked the Wanderers' only points with a first-half penalty. But the deficit is not insurmountable and the second leg at Franklin's Gardens next Monday is not to be missed.
Wasps are the reigning Guinness 'A' League champions, and in the first few minutes it was clear that the Wanderers would have to be on top form to come away from Dry Leas still in contention for the title. Having said that, both sides had their chances in the opening 10 minutes. Dave Ward took advantage of a loose Wasps lineout to head for the line, and Paul Diggin's interception in his own 22 proved crucial in ending a potent home attack.
Nevertheless the hosts still took a decent lead with a fifth-minute Jeremy Staunton drop-goal and a Chris Bishay try seven minutes later. Bishay had a second chance soon after thanks to a lucky bounce, but it was centre Henry Barrett who rounded off some Wasps pressure at the end of the first quarter. Staunton converted for a 15-0 lead.
The Wanderers were struggling to build up any head of steam. Mind you, they weren't helping themselves either. Paul Tupai's knock on at a scrum base set up the pressure for Wasps' second try and play was forced that little bit too often. There were a couple of good opportunities to build pressure before the half-hour, but maul five metres out from the home line was held out and a ricochet at a ruck handed possession over.
This had followed a powerful Wasps scrum, and the home pack continued to dominate the set piece. Only a penalty at a five-metre scrum prevented a try, but when a maul was set up in a similar position in the 38th minute patience prevailed and James Buckland emerged with a try. Staunton landed the second conversion and Wasps were 22-0 up.
Barry Everitt pulled three points back two minutes into injury-time, but at 22-3 down the Wanderers still had a mountain after the break.
Nevertheless, with Rob Milligan and Joe Gray now on the field, the visitors started the second half on the front foot. Everitt kicked fully 60 metres to the corner, and then a second immediately after, but this lineout strayed off line and Wasps cleared.
The mistake proved crucial as the hosts went upfield and scored through flanker Rob Webber. This 27-3 lead continued until the hour, although the Wanderers did have a promising chance to build pressure when Will Harries made a searing break up the right wing.
Soane Tonga'uiha also made a powerful break up the middle. But although neither run amounted to anything it was clear that the JSA youngsters, by now including Ollie Storey and debutant Darryl Veenendaal, were going to take a considerable amount of good experience from the evening's experience.
Veenendaal's distribution was accurate and he was linking up well at half-back with Harries, whose chip just eluded Robbie Kydd as the Wanderers began to string together some good phases of play. Neil Starling also made a great break, spinning out of a tackle and accelerating up to Wasps' 22. It was a rare visit to home territory that came to an end with a penalty conceded for coming into the side, and with five minutes to go Wasps replacement flanker Ken Aseme crashed over for a try that Staunton converted.
This brought the scoring to a close but not the action, as Veenendaal prodded Wasps back with a pair of box kicks. But the Wanderers couldn't make a breakthrough and face a tough challenge at the Gardens next Monday.

Stage comments: Stage 1: Went fine, only error was slam throwing a foot soldier when I should have specialed (for some reason you can't wall throw it) Baxter: Died without a hitch. Stage 2: I lost time on the first roadkill rodney spawn because I couldn't successfully run past a blue soldier, costing me a couple of seconds because I had to kill him. Metalhead: Nothing wrong here Stage 3: Not much to comment on except the Rat King is a bastard (watch what he does when he dies). I hesitate on the last hit because I thought I didn't have enough life to perform another special (I was hit by a stone warrior right before the boss) Stage 7: The only significant mistake was failing to skip the stone warrior by the first pizza. (Less)

I got it from www.speeddemosarchive.com. I got it for all those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans out there, and non-fans alike. So please don't accuse me of copyright infringement, or plagurism. Enjoy. Note: the game's timer at the end isn't used because it is buggy. Best time as Raphael: Hard mode 0:22:31 by Mike Uyama on 14.03.06. Author's comments: -Played at the hardest difficulty -No deaths -Recorded using an snes and a VCR -As always, thanks go to Nate for capturing. Smith won't hesitate to shoot jumpers, though, if the Atlanta Hawks need a big basket. ``I'm not a three-point shooter,'' he said, ``but if it comes to me, I'll take it.'' Mike Bibby hit a tying three-pointer in regulation, Smith made two in overtime, and the Hawks beat the Toronto Raptors 127-120 on Wednesday night for their fifth straight victory. ``Sometimes these things happen.'' Smith's three-pointer from the right side, making it 114-113 with 2:05 left in overtime, gave the Hawks their first lead since Josh Childress hit a pair of free throws with 4:25 left in the second quarter. ``I didn't want to get too excited.'' Bosh had 24 points for Toronto, and Ford finished with 23 points and 13 assists. ``My mom will not like it.'' Leading by 17 on Nesterovic's runner with 1:09 left in the third, Toronto had almost nothing go right after Jamario Moon's 18-footer gave it a 105-98 lead with 5:19 remaining. They played hard tonight.'' For Smith, who grew up in Atlanta and entered the NBA straight from high school, winning a tight game was just what the playoff-starved Hawks needed. ``We're confident,'' Smith said. ``We feel good about ourselves. We feel like the sky's the limit for this team. We're not taking nights off.'' Notes: With a 35-40 record, Atlanta matched its highest victory total since 2002-03. ... The Hawks, who haven't made the playoffs since 1999, will put first-round tickets on sale Saturday. ... They beat the Raptors for the first time in five tries. ... Nesterovic's three-pointer at the end of the first quarter was his first in 11 career regular-season attempts. (Less)
