Vielmehr handelt es sich hier um den Titel des kurzweiligen Spielfilmdebüts von David Schwimmer („Ross" aus „Friends"). Ursprünglich als gag-gespickter Schenkelklatscher konzipiert, gelingt Schwimmer mit dieser Komödie der Spagat zwischen trockenem britischen Humor, sympathischen Charakteren und einer guten Prise Romantik -- und dem wahrscheinlich dreistesten Product-Placement, seitdem der Martini nicht mehr gerührt werden darf. Der schlimmste Tag im Leben einer Frau ist, wie jeder weiß, der Tag ihrer Hochzeit. Zumindest wenn sie, sehr hübsch und sehr schwanger, von ihrem Bräutigam sitzen gelassen wird, noch ehe die Kirche überhaupt erreicht wurde. Und so sieht Libby (Thandie Newton) an diesem Trauertag ihren zukünftigen Ex Dennis (Simon Pegg) nur noch von hinten, als dieser zum Sprint ansetzt und sich aus dem Staub macht. Fünf Jahre später sehen wir ihn wieder von vorn. Zwar hat Dennis Libby noch immer nicht klar machen können, warum er sie nicht heiraten konnte, aber man redet immerhin wieder miteinander. Wie sollte der notorische Loser ihr auch erklären, dass er sich einfach nicht gut genug für sie fühlte -- und ihr daher lieber den Tag, als das ganze Leben versauen wollte. Eigentlich ist Dennis nämlich ein ganz netter Kerl. Gut, er raucht, hat einen miesen Job als Wächter in einem Dessousladen, ein paar Kilos zuviel und ständig ein paar Pfund zu wenig, um seine Miete zu zahlen. Aber für seinen Sohn Jake (Matthew Fenton) würde er alles tun. Leider ist Dennis auch notorisch vom Pech verfolgt. Ganz im Gegensatz zu Libbys neuem Freund Whit (Hank Azaria). Der erfolgreiche, immer gut gelaunte Marathon laufende Börsenfachmann ist nämlich so ziemlich alles, was Dennis nicht ist. In seinem eher unterentwickelten Stolz gekränkt, verkündet Dennis kurz entschlossen, ebenfalls am Londoner Marathon teilzunehmen. Also bereitet er sich mit Hilfe seines besten Freundes Gordon (Dylan Moran) und seines Vermieters Mr. Goshdashtidar (Harish Patel) auf den Lauf seines Lebens vor, um seinen inneren Schweinehund zu besiegen und seine große Liebe Libby zurück zu gewinnen. Und daher sprechen wir auch nicht darüber. Worüber es allerdings etwas zu sagen gibt, ist das geradezu groteske Ausmaß an Product-Placement. Selbst wenn man sich vor Augen führt, dass eine an Hollywood-Maßstäben gemessene Low-Budget-Produktion wie diese sicherlich jeden Werbecent gebrauchen kann, gehen die Produzenten Robert Jones (Die übliche Verdächtigen) und Sarah Curtis („On A Clear Day") hier doch ein paar gesponserte Schritte zu weit. Hier werden nicht nur -- gleich zwei Mal (!) Nike-Laufschuhe verschenkt, sondern flugs ein ganzer, extra erfundener (!!) Marathon ins Zentrum der Geschichte gekritzelt: der „Nike River Run". Während man also im zweiten und dritten Akt des Films zusammen mit Dennis dem Ziel entgegenfiebert, wird man gleichzeitig das Gefühl nicht los, in einem zu lang geratenen Imagespot zu sitzen. Auf diese Weise möchte man nicht belästigt werden. und so verlieren beide: „Nike", weil es das Publikum nervt. Und „Run, Fatboy, Run", weil „Nike" das Publikum nervt. Wem es aber gelingt -- es ist schwer, aber es geht -- den Sportlatschenhersteller zu ignorieren, der hat viel Spaß bei einer guten Komödie mit tollen Darstellern. (Less)
