"Rorschach Audio" is the title of a research project which considers investigations into allegedly supernatural Electronic Voice Phenomena in context of both anecdotal reports and formal experimental studies of related aspects of auditory perception. "Rorschach Audio" considers supernatural attributions of "stray" radio voices to stem from the illusory misinterpretation of ambiguous sounds, and EVP recordings to therefore be illusions of sound. "Rorschach Audio" offers the opinion that EVP recordings are not (as is often alleged) the voices of the dead, and (in marked contrast to other art projects which have dealt with this subject) "Rorschach Audio" is unique in a/ not trying to bullshit the public about EVP, and b/ in not trying to pretend that postmodernist rhetoric is any substitute for factual integrity or common-sense. In the documentaries contained in the DVD for the film "White Noise", EVP researcher Lisa Butler stresses that EVP recording is "easy for anyone to do", which is presumably why so many sound artists make recordings of EVP! "Rorschach Audio" was originally written in 1999 as sleevenotes for an EVP compilation CD entitled "The Ghost Orchid", and upated versions have been published by The Sonic Arts Network, Strange Attractor Journal and by The MIT Press. The 5th print version of "Audio Rorschach" is now available in Earshot journal, published by John Drever of Goldsmiths College. "Rorschach Audio" presentations have also been given at Goldsmiths College (London), FACT (Liverpool), MUU (Helsinki), The Royal Society of British Sculptors (London), Q Arts (Derby), Dorkbot (London), Fabrica (Brighton), Hull Time Based Arts, UKISC Sound Practice (Dartington), The Foundry (London), The Broadway Cinema (Nottingham, for the Nottingham Trent University Fine Art Department), The Art Institute of Chicago, and Beursschouwburg (Brussels). The preamble to the main part of the Kinetica talk discusses the work of Joe's Disinformation project (the video in the background being Disinformation's luminous graffiti and shadow wall installation "The Origin of Painting"). The main body of the talk was read directly from the published research. The Q&A relates to a question about whether the speaker was aware of phenomena relating to ventriloquist type effects associated with children's play. I progetti di Otolab si sviluppano attraverso il lavoro di laboratorio, i seminari e i liveset, secondo principi di mutuo confronto e sostegno, di libera circolazione dei saperi e di sperimentazione. Il gruppo di lavoro si compone di progetti individuali e collettivi per i quali sono stati utilizzati linguaggi che vanno dall'elettronica sperimentale alla techno, dal dub alle sonorità industriali, sempre alla ricerca di un rapporto simbiotico con l'immagine e il video, fino al live media e all'installazione interattiva. The post-modern contemporaneity often supports apathy concerning historical memory, while post-modernism critically deconstructs Great Histories in order for the artist to compose his own micro-relations with history. Retrospections represent a framework for such set-ups, where in a media- and image-saturated environment contemporaneity is in a dialogue with history. Simultaneously history fructifies contemporaneity through editing, deformation, de-contextualization, reconstruction and remix − of a creative [re-]interpretation − as well as through honoring the old by requestioning the new and vice versa. A real-time visual and sonic editing, alteration and becoming appears through a cine-intermedia performance with the help from digital machines and their code. It is a constant metamorphosis between the abstraction of computerized visual generators over-flown by film sequences, and signs, images from the celluloid drowned in a digitality of pixels. With modern sonic and musical approaches, Retrospections are flirting with a cinematic cine-ear added a Cine-eye, therefore Cine-eye/Schizo-eye (Kinoko/Skizoko). The performance consists of live generation, editing and processing of moving images created by Maya Deren with authorial sound and music. It moves on axes between questions about the ritual (transcendence? loss of self?), the bipolarity of woman and man (construction of gender? Eros tanatos?), and the perception of time through space and movement (horizontal and vertical? image-movement, image-time?). Luka Prinčič is a musician, sound designer and media artist. As a composer, performer and programmer he works in the field of sound and intermedia. He is mostly focused on the creation and execution of sound/noise/music, audiovisual and electroacoustic performances and intermedia interventions into the physical and mentally emotional space. The intertwining fields of work include Pure Data workshops, interactive installations programming, generative video and editing, AV collaborations, free musical releases for web publishers, streaming technologies for events and the development and use of free software. His work is mainly focused on the personally reflexive and socially critical use of new technologies within modern audiovisual performative contexts. viator.si Maya Deren (1917−1961), born in Kiev, was an American avant-garde director, filmmaker, editor, performer, film theoretician, dancer, poet and photographer, whose first short film Meshes of the Afternoon is understood as the birth of American experimental avant-garde films.
