As soon as Mr. Horne shows up they follow him in, sit down at their computers, and get to work immediately without being asked to. Some of them have been thinking about this project while they were outside of the classroom. They have ideas. They have work to do.
On their computer screens they are manipulating a program called Final Cut Pro that looks highly complicated and technical, with four different work panes, innumerable buttons and bars, and dozens of menus. One of the students is using a program called LiveType to create the short animated logo for his production company that will go before the film. Another student logs film into the computer, another edits video and audio, and another uses a program to compose and record his own soundtrack to avoid using copyrighted songs. Working alone or in groups, these students perform every step of the filmmaking process: they write the script, storyboard the shoot, set up the lighting, work with actors, film the footage, edit the footage, add effects, create the title screen, insert credits, and design the production company logo. Using the technology Galloway makes available to them and the technical skills they learn in the class, these students are able to turn their visions into realities.
One student, Woody Shortridge, made a music video for Zebra Stripe, a song performed by Balkans, a band he is a member of. Another student, Lady Bouley, explored special effects and camera tricks in a film called The Birth of Fire. (Less) Channel: youtube

Voters get to choose from designs submitted by companies competing for $1 million in the industry Intel Core Processor Challenge. A group of computer and design experts will award the winners in April, but consumers can now pick their favorite designs in a separate online Peoples Choice Award contest that also features a random $100 certificate giveaway to eligible voters. The Industry Vote Last September, Intel Corporation announced the Intel Core Processor Challenge contest with up to a $1 million bounty for PC designers and manufacturers worldwide to think beyond the traditional big, beige box computer designs. The contest aims to spur industry innovation in new, stylish home entertainment PC designs based on the multimedia optimized Intel Core processor and Intel Viiv technology. More than two dozen PC designs from 19 companies worldwide are vying over best style, acoustics, functionality and features. Entrants hail from eight countries. Ten semifinalists were chosen by Intel judges in March. In April, top designs will be selected by a group of computer and design experts, and winners are scheduled to be announced at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing. More details about the Intel Core Processor Challenge are at www.intel.com/idf/corechallenge.htm. The Peoples Choice Starting March 19, people can participate in the Intel Core Processor Challenge PC Design Peoples Choice Awards by visiting www.intelchallenge.com. The PC Design People's Choice Awards allows consumers to view and vote for their favorite design and gives participating designers a chance to showcase their concept computers to the public. Each week for five weeks, one eligible voter will be randomly selected to win a $100 gift certificate. Voters may win only once. The Web site features photos, audio and video stories about PC history and the innovative people behind some of the creative designs competing in the industry challenge. Voters can add their comments about PC designs. On March 26, voters can return to the site and participate in conversations with guest bloggers, share photos, and submit short personal videos expressing why design and digital entertainment are important in their lives. Votes will be counted electronically and PC Design Peoples Choice Award winners are scheduled to be announced on April 20. (Less) Channel: metacafe

Today, Roland proudly announces another milestone in guitar modeling and performance technology: the VG-99. With three powerful new processors at its core, plus expressive performance controls such as Ribbon Controller and D BEAM, this remarkable instrument raises the bar in guitar modeling and performance technology. * Dual modeling engines allow guitar and amp models to be dynamically switched, layered and combined * New COSM electric, acoustic and even bass guitar models, and new synth waves such as the famous GR-300 * Guitar to MIDI converter for direct connection to keyboards, sound modules, soft synths, computers, and other MIDI-compatible devices * Supports USB audio and MIDI for easy digital recording and sequencing * Dual GT-Pro-class effects processor enables unequalled flexible tone creation * Advanced performance controls, including D BEAM, V-LINK and Ribbon Controller take guitar performance to a whole new level * Simple and intuitive knob-based interface and new design support live performance * Graphical Editor software included to support sophisticated sound making * Versatile I/O, including USB, S/PDIF and XLR provide pro connections for virtually every type of music production and performance on stage to professional studio recording A Milestone in Guitar Modeling and Performance Technology More Info Multi Modeling The VG-99 contains an incredible range of COSM-modeled guitars and amplifiers including new electric, acoustic and bass guitar models, a new GR-300 synth wave and much more. It even models two signal paths at once. Complete dual processing of guitar modeling on the VG-99 allows you to play two different guitar sounds simultaneously. For example, one virtual guitar could be a Telecaster in a vintage Tweed amp with full effects and the other a nylon-string guitar with just a hint of reverb. Dynamic Control Both modeled guitar and amp paths can be active at the same time, or they can be dynamically switched or blended. You can control the switching behavior between virtual guitars and/or amps by foot controllers, buttons/knobs on the unit, or according to your picking dynamics. Imagine playing softly for an acoustic-guitar sound, then transitioning to a full metal blast simply by picking more aggressively. Furthermore, each modeled guitar can be separately assigned to individual guitar strings. For example, you could have a 12-string guitar on 1st to 4th string and Synth-bass for 5th and 6th. Alternate Tunings The VG-99 can produce custom tunings anything the player desires on any virtual guitar. A virtual Les Paul, for example, could be tuned down four or five steps for a heavy sound, while a nylon string could be tuned as a 12-string, and also tuned down four or five steps at the same time. Open and drop tunings are also supported as well as user-defined custom tunings and can be applied to any COSM guitar, so the player can switch instantly between tuning setups without physically switching guitars or having to manually retune. Guitar Performance in Higher Dimension With its new performance-based design, the VG-99 can be placed within a players easy reach on stage by using an optional PDS-10 stand. This new style setup allows various new performance possibilities such as D BEAM, Ribbon Controller and more. In combination with the versatile new foot controller FC-300, the VG-99 takes your guitar performance on stage to a whole new dimension. Most Wanted You asked for it, now Roland delivers the most-requested new features in the VG-99, including an onboard guitar-to-MIDI converter for direct connection to keyboards, sound modules, soft synths, etc. Audio output via USB or S/PDIF digital out, and optional RAD-99 rack mount adaptor further enhance your music production environment. Built-in stereo XLR and 1/4" outputs are ideal for live stage performances and touring. The striking new on-screen editor makes programming the VG-99 super easy and fun. Insider Accessories FC-300 MIDI Foot Controller A new standard of power, versatility and innovation for MIDI foot control including bi-directional MIDI data flow to VG-99, patch memory recall, twin expression and control pedals and more. We had to document, design, sketch build, texture and render an environment of our choice and it had to be 3D. It had to be suitable for a Game Cinematic, CG movie and some where allowed to do Architectural Renders.
I chose to do an intro for an Action/Thriller Game.
Probably my most ambitious project so far, weighing in at 2 mins with over 200 assets! I very happy with the result. I don't like some of the transitions I used and there are actually a few things wrong in the shots but to the casual observer its unnoticeable... hopefully haha.
Concepting took a week, then there were 4 weeks of design and finalising a list of modelling work. (eg. Door, brick, building one, fern.)
I used a stratergy map to work out what geometry would not be seen and this subsequently halved my workload later on. Modelling and Animating took 7 weeks on and off and rendering a little less than 1 week.
This time rendering took 5 computers 2 over night sessions to complete 2800 frames at 1024 x 576 (16:9)
No final Gather - No Arch&Des Materials.
Just under 1 square metre of texture maps used! All hand-done in Photoshop (four 1024x1024 maps and five 2048x2048 maps)
Hope you enjoy it - All constructive feedback welcome. (Less) Channel: youtube

What if tangible media could simulate personality and allowing the player to perceive human qualities? What effect would this have on the users position in relation to the installation?
A team of graduating Communication design students Gavan Bright, Simon Young, and Michael Nyberg explore people's relationship towards computers when a computer displays emotions through visual and audio feedback to their spatial presence.
While other installations have dealt with repelling people and forcing users to engage with their position in space in relation to a responsive LED visual sculptures (United Visual Artists 2006; Mottola 2007). Our work is based on the United Visual Artists (2006) work which "Forced people to engage with the position in the space, and their relation to the monolith." Our work is the exploration of place in relation to the perceived personality of a computer. The visual display being a huge pair big brother like watching eyes projected onto the outdoor screens of the creative industries.
Mounted on the quadrangle of Z2 Creative Industries this work uses motion camera detection and gives feedback via video projected onto the large outdoor screens and outdoor speakers.
As people move through the outdoor space two large eyes follow their movement across the quadrangle.
Different areas within this zone elicit different emotions from the computer.
The further away the participants are from the screen the safer the computer will feel about their presence. The closer the participants are then the more scared or emotional the computer will behave. Over time the algorithm will adapt and deal with peoples presence inside the computers space. The audio narrative will reflect a change in behaviour helping create a rhythm of audible moods.
This project stimulates an active, emotional and physical communication between the observer and the computer eyes. This installation allows for the exploration of animating live action through human interaction in real space with the digital emotions of a perceived living being.
