Although this incident seemed to be a simple misunderstanding to begin with but then culminated into unnecessary chaos that was blown way out of proportion, it should be noted that as Muslims, we respect all of the prophets--Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, and all the rest of them, peace be upon them.
Just think about how you would feel if someone tried to insult the person closest to you (your spouse, mother, father, grandparents, sibling, children, grandchildren, etc.). To Muslims, prophets are closer to us than all of those people.
Nonetheless, as this seemed to be a simple misunderstanding to begin with, they should have just simple changed the name of the teddy bear--there's no need to punish for such a simple and seemingly unintentional misunderstanding!

A British teacher asks her Sudanese students to come up with possible names for a teddy bear...
After choosing some names and voting, the students ended up with the name Muhammad.
The teacher is then "jailed for 15 days after insulting Islam's Prophet by allowing her pupils in Sudan to name a teddy bear Muhammad."
The teacher was also "suspended from her teaching post, and the school has closed until January."
I'm a Muslim.
What do I think from an Islamic perspective?
I think this is just silly.
The teacher didn't even choose the name.
Additionally, the bear wasn't named as such to offend.

So do you see the silliness we are dealing with?
Why didn't they simply just change the teddy bear's name?
This silly ordeal reminded me of another silly incident that previously happened in Sudan in which a Sudanese man had "been forced to take a goat as his 'wife', after he was caught having sex with the animal."
So it seems this is just another one of Sudan's silly and ignorant non-Islamic verdicts.
However, one must keep in mind the massive underreporting and extreme bias on behalf of the media.
Although both this teddy bear and the goat incident occurred in Sudan,
Things like this are a rarity in Sudan.
Not only that, but the ones passing these verdicts are even more rare.
Most Sudanese do not agree with these two rulings.
But in the end, it was up to the ones passing the verdict.
And in these two cases, silly ignorance prevailed.
Although ignorant, the media jumps on it and passes it off as something from Islam.
But in reality, Islam is entirely free from such ignorance.
It makes one remember the hadith of the prophet Muhammad (pbuh):
"Narrated Anas:
Allah's Apostle said, 'From among the portents of the Hour are (the following):
1. Religious knowledge will be taken away (by the death of Religious learned men).
2. (Religious) ignorance will prevail.
3. Drinking of alcoholic drinks (will be very common).
4. There will be prevalence of open illegal sexual intercourse.'"

This teddy bear issue in Sudan is a prime example of this ignorance that was prophesied over 1400 years ago by the final messenger (pbuh).
May God rid the world of this ignorance.
And what better way to do this than to follow the advice of God, Himself?
"Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists),
Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood).
Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous,
Who has taught (the writing) by the pen.
Has taught man that which he knew not."

DUBAI (AFP) An appeal court in Dubai on Tuesday suspended three-month jail terms against two Britons convicted of having sex on the beach in the booming Gulf city-state but ordered them to leave the country.
Michelle Palmer, 36, and Vince Acors, 34, who have been on bail during their trial, were not in court for the verdict but their lawyer said they were "very happy" at the news.
Hassan Matar said a three-month prison sentence imposed by a lower court had been suspended but that the pair would now be deported, implying that their conviction still stood.
"The court found they deserved mercy," Matar said. "The ruling proves that the judicial system in Dubai is fair... it is not subject to external pressure."
The two were found guilty in October in a highly publicised case in the emirate, which despite its pro-Western outlook still adheres to certain strict Islamic rules and bans sex out of wedlock.
Palmer and Acors denied charges of having sex in public and public indecency, but admitted to being under the influence of alcohol when they were caught on Dubai's Jumeirah public beach in July after meeting at a champagne brunch in one of the city's glitzy five-star hotels.
In addition to the jail sentence and deportation, they were each fined 1,000 dirhams (270 dollars) for drinking alcohol, but both the defence and prosecution had appealed over the prison term.
Under the laws of the United Arab Emirates the maximum sentence for sex outside marriage is one year imprisonment and the minimum is three months.
"They are very happy about what happened today, this is a very good verdict," Matar told Britain's Sky News television, adding that the departure date of the pair would be kept secret.
"The verdict concerning their expulsion remains valid," he had said earlier, adding there was no deadline for their deportation. "There are only a few routine procedures to complete for their departure."
Matar said he was planning to call for a suspension of the deportation order to allow Palmer and Acors to return to the United Arab Emirates in future if they wished.
At the opening of their trial in August, both denied having sex, with Palmer saying they were simply "kissing and hugging."
Matar had insisted that the results of a medical test on Palmer just hours after they were arrested on July 5 showed "she had not engaged in recent sexual intercourse," while the medical report for Acors was inconclusive.
Palmer was sacked from her job as a publishing executive in the UAE following the case, while Acors was visiting Dubai at the time.
The case turned the spotlight on the lifestyle of the 120,000-plus British residents of the UAE, around 100,000 of whom live in Dubai, a city of opulent hotels and shopping malls which hosts hundreds of thousands of Western residents and tourists. (Less) Channel: youtube

Ms. Diane Choksondik was a character in the series South Park. She was the boys' new teacher after they started fourth grade and was voiced by Trey Parker (she is the only female character ever to be voiced by Parker or Stone.). Her name is a play on the phrase "chokes on dick."

Ms. Choksondik is famous for her distinctive appearance; she has extremely exaggerated saggy breasts, is overweight, and has a drifting lazy eye. She also does not wear a bra, and when she lifts her arm up, her shirt has a habit of going up with it and revealing the bottom few inches of her breasts.

Ms. Choksondik had a sexual relationship with Mr. Mackey, the school counsellor in the episode Proper Condom Use, when the two characters realize that they are attracted to each other while discussing sex education. Mr. Mackey refers to a sexual experience at a much younger age as his only one, despite having been married in a season two episode while on drugs. He could have forgotten about this event though. Ms. Choksondik confessed to being a virgin and they had sexual intercourse.

The episode Professor Chaos ended on a cliffhanger (though it was revealed in the same episode) saying someone would die, in a parody of cliffhanger endings. It was revealed during this gag that Ms. Choksondik had died. In the following episode Simpsons Already Did It, the boys had they put some of their Sea People in her coffee as a joke. (However this was not the cause of her death.) They went to find their Sea People to avoid getting caught and Cartman hid inside her cadaver to avoid being discovered by the mortuary staff. It was revealed in this episode when the boys were watching the news that Mr. Mackey's (her sexual partner) semen was found in her stomach, again, not contributing to her death. Her cause of death remains unknown but it is hinted by her name that she really did "chokes on dick".
After this incident, the students were given two weeks off school. The new teacher was Mr. Mackey for a short period, until finally Mr. Garrison reprises his role as the boy's teacher.
Ms. Choksondik makes a brief cameo in I'm a Little Bit Country in the back of a large crowd despite being dead. However, this is probably because it was the show's 100th episode and a majority of the show's characters were featured in this segment. (Less) Channel: youtube
