World's Famous Martial Art in History : BLOODSPORT (1988) WITH Jean-Claude Van Damme
The movie 1988 "Bloodsport" remains one of the best entertaining martial arts movies of it's time and is considered a cult classic. This movie introduced Jean-Claude Van Damme and made him both a star and an International icon to a world-wide audience. The movie showcased Van Damme's amazing athletic abilities, and his genuine martial art skills.
At age ten, Jean-Claude Van Damme of Brussels (real name Van Varenberg) took Shotokon karate lessons. At age 16 he won his first tournament in 46 seconds. He won his black belt at age 18 and won the European Professional Karate Association's middleweight championship at age 19. He had a fight record of 16 knock-outs to l loss. As a kickboxer, Van Damme also studied Taekwondo and Mauy Thai.
Additionally, an impressive array of international martial artists and their captivating and — at times spectacular fighting styles, ranging from Kung Fu to Jeet Kune Do and Muay Thai are displayed.
Part of the mystique of Bloodsport is it is said to be based on the 1975-180 real life experiences of Frank Dux an American from California. Dux a skilled martial artist claimed to be first Westerner to win the secret, underground Martial Arts Competition known as the Kumite. In reality, Dux maintains he fought and "won" his Kumite tournament in Jamaica; the movie Bloodsport, nonetheless, takes place in Hong Kong. Dux choreographed the fight scenes for the film and provided the basic script for Bloodsport. The fight scenes are the main attractions of the movie; plot and acting take a back seat. As the "strong and silent type" Van Damme handles his star role well enough, but he - like Bruce Lee had only marginal English skills.
"Bloodsport" tells the story of Frank W. Dux (Jean Claude Van Damme), trained from youth in Ninjutsu by a Japanese master, Senzo Tanaka (Roy Chiao). To honor his mentor, Dux leaves for Hong Kong to participate in the Kumite —where the world's best martial artists are secretly and invited every five years.
The movie unfolds showing the intense preparations for the Kumite by a number of different skilled fighters (climbing trees, smashing coconuts or breaking large ice blocks and strong boards). Dux's past training is highlighted. The film skips to Dux's present workout in a military gym, where his participation in the Kumite is in doubt when officially prohibited from attending. Feigning need for a shower, Dux escapes the base and makes his way to Hong Kong meeting fellow American contestant, Ray Jackson (Donald Gibb) and a female American journalist, Janice Kent (Leah Ayres), who is attempting to write about the clandestine, illegal event.
The tournament begins, Dux beats all of his opponents, including a Syrian fighter (Bernard Mariano), a Muay Thai kickboxer (Paulo Tocha), and a formidable Sumo wrestler (David Ho) advancing to the third and final day of the tournament to face defending Kumite champion, Chong Li (Bolo Yeung who incredibly was 49 year old at time of filming but looking like 30). Li is the callous villain and when discovering Dux to be the better fighter, stoops to throwing salt to blind Dux during the match. Unable to see, Dux relies on his keen sense to fend off Li and then to resoundingly win. The film closes with Dux returning to the United States and screen shows statistics detailing the real-life achievements Frank W. Dux's such as having the fastest recorded knock out record.
The soundtrack, composed by Paul Hertzog uses synthesized sounds and classical Asian instrumentation featuring: Fight to Survive, On My Own-Alone and Steal the Night. Van Damme and the 1988 "Bloodsport" motivated a resurgent interest in the martial arts not seen since the untimely death of Bruce Lee some 15 years earlier in 1973.

PART TWO!
The two started dancing to the fast song. And they looked over at Kacy and Joe, who were no longer out on the dance floor. Instead they were talking over at one of the tables.
Kacy: So if Nick and Kevin are the romantics, what does that make you?
Joe: I don't know but I don't think my mind works very romantically. I just don't know if I could come up with something like Nick did, all by myself. I'd have to talk to Nick or Kevin to see what to do.
Kacy: So you're saying that if you ever did anything romantic like that for me it wasn't because you wanted too, its because Kevin gave you the idea?
Joe: What? No. No, I mean that if I really want to try and do something romantic for you I'll be able to get a basic like idea of it. But I don't think I'd be able to plan out everything, like the song and stuff, by myself. Maybe I would need a few pointers from Nick or Kevin.
Kacy: Oh, that makes more sense.
Joe: Phew, I thought you were getting mad at me.
Kacy: No, that could never happen. *Kisses Joe*
Joe: Mmm, that was better than the cake.
Kacy: Cake? We haven't had the cake yet...
Joe: Oops. *Winks at her*
Kacy just looked at him with a - how could you eat that cake -- look. Joe just started laughing, and then he looked over at Kevin and Deena, who were deep into make out mode on the dance floor.
Deena: *Between Kisses* I...think...we...should...stop...
Kevin: How...come?
Deena: Well...you...have...another...set...and...we...have...to...do...cake...and...presents...
Kevin: *Breaks kiss* Okay fine. Let me go find the guys and we'll do our second set, while you get the cake and stuff ready?
Deena: Okay sounds good. Hold on, *wipes off his lips* sorry lip gloss.
So the party kept going. After the next set, they all sang "Happy Birthday" Joe Jonas style. That was fun, but very fast because he REALLY wanted cake.
Nick: So how does it feel being 16?
McKenzie: Pretty amazing especially since I got to spend the night with you. It really has been the best birthday ever.
Nick: Haha, stop saying that. You don't need to thank me, you don't need to do anything. I do it all because I love you. Do I really need a reason?
McKenzie: I guess not. I know you don't, you mean the world to me, I just want you to know that. *She kisses him deeply. She just finished her cake so her sisters were getting her presents ready for her to open. Anyway, so yeah, they're kissing*
Nick: Point well taken. Let's go open your presents.
McKenzie: Yay! Presents! I love those things!
Nick: Hah, like a little child. Cute.
They go over to where the presents are and Joe practically shoves his present in her face. He really wanted her to open it.
McKenzie: haha, Joe that's so you! *Holds up the Mrs. Joe Jonas T-shirt he got her*
Joe: I thought you'd like it. There's something else too.
McKenzie: Gift card for StarBucks! Score!!
*Hugs*
Kacy: Me and Deena got you something together, I think you'll like it.
Deena: I know you will.
McKenzie: *Opens up a color box that has a brand new bathing suit inside* Oh my gosh you guys! This is so cute. *It's a bikini that ties, but thicker straps. It's teal on the top with black and teal polka dots on the bottom*
Nick: I like it.
Deena: Of course you do, haha.
Kacy: We thought you would.
McKenzie: Can't wait for Hawaii next week! I'll wear it there.
Nick: You better. You'll look amazing.
Kevin: Hah, okay lover boy.
Nick: *blushes*
Kevin: Want to open mine Kenzi?
McKenzie: Of course. I could never pass it up.
Kevin had bought her a necklace that looked kinda hawaiiany. It was made out of hemp and pooka shells with a seashell in the middle that hung down. Trinkety but he knew she would like it.*
McKenzie: I love it! I'll wear it with the bathing suit!
Joe: You guys got her parts of an outfit, I should have got you flip flops.
McKenzie: Don't worry, I'll be able to use yours too. The shirt is one of my favorites.
Nick: And now for my present. *Hands her a box* (Less)

GYRAX Presents...
Nikita MUGEN #22: "Someone's Trippin' in the Mushroom Kingdom!"
The Synchronizer - Hisui by 9 (me)
vs.
Giga Bowser by Shazzo
Hisui thought that the toned down training would do her good after she and the team leader have reached an agreement. Now, it ain't near enough. One night, she went out to find a challenge, and on impulse, decided to visit the Mushroom Kingdom, and face the baddest Koopa of them all. However, there's something different about this Koopa King...
Remilia and the rest of the team arrived shortly after the fight, and they stood in amazement over what just happened; Giga Bowser lies on the floor, knocked out cold! That state of shock dissipated quickly when they found out this Bowser was a fake, and the real one was in another castle...
===================================
It's about time Hisui gets some spotlight, and the opponent she faces in her debut match is quite a monster.
I decided to take on smashbros2000's challenge and face Giga Bowser by Shazzo, with the time limite set to 99, Bowser's Castle as the background, and the "Bowser is Pissed" remix as the BGM.
Good thing Giga Bowser is a slow, lumbering retard, because this monster is overpowered to near-Eternal Sailor Moon extreme. His super can almost kill you in a single shot. It's best to use speed and just rush him, but not too much. Better block occasionally, since even his basic attacks can take off a chunk of your health. Also, his flamethrower super can't hit you if you're really close to him. Even without a competent AI, Giga Bowser's a tricky one.
If you would like to take on the Giga Bowser challenge, feel free to post in this topic at the JS MUGEN Forums:
http://jsmugen.x10hosting.com/forum/index.php?topic=5032.0
Good luck. ^_^

Astronautalis - Oceanwalk
I saw the door and I looked through the entrance
Stare down night sky, dot pattern seeming endless
Broken friendship, dandy dog on leash
Door latch caught spot, shoe stomp on street
Tape deck plays and the reels will spin
Suburb sound close down as boom-bap begin
My red face hide in the shade of the trees
As buggered blue moonlight pass through the leaves
Carry out my concerning deeds in the deprevation of the darkness
The com-com-comfort of cavedweller locked inside an apartment
I spark this with the marked mistakes of minors learning
How to build a better book of matches by watching the fire burning
I can count all my dreams on a pair of pinnoccio fingers
And trace the trail back home from all the tumbling splinter
A silly beginner, basic aprentice aggression
In the absence of a master, trying to make up my own lesson
Who knew I would wait such a long time
From the dreams to leaves to the cracks in the pavement
To the roaches and rat and the amoured cars pacing
To the spies and the thieves and the cross-eyed complainers
To the...ain't that long when you count out the paces
From the breach to the tracks to the aliens with statments
To the grief and the crap that they all want to wade in
To the forth and back, the forth and back, there is no turning back again
Secrets explode wether you mean it or not
I locked my dreams with the right keys but I worked the wrong lock
The strong box screws split quick before I could retighten
I learned lightening strikes and leaves before language leaks "it lightens"
The waking of the dead to live and work with the freaks
I was a vampire roaming streets when I would swear I'is a sleep
The beeping of the buzzer burn my brain the next day
I tried to brush my teeth but never could remove the blood stains
A double life of moonlighting grows tiring from trying
If you got to work a day job and keep the villagers from rioting
The list of lies, lengthened longer, left life laymen honest
Invited the world into my home to show the bones stacked in my closet
A dumb little skeleton walking miles to chase a silly dream
Stubborn skull, split shoes, punctuated by abrasive feet
All the while stalking, walking, akward through the night
In the stomach of the suburbs with a dog by my side
(chorus x3) (Less)

DVD contains Karel Teige's original ABECEDA and Larsen & Friend's entire performance w/ the film material cleverly edited in. CD contains the audio recordings of the performance. Larsen w/ David Tibet, Johann Johannson, Julia Kent & Baby Dee. Larsen & Friends ABECEDA captures an extremely special evening for Larsen, one that places them in a perfect visual and musical perspective revealing more an a little about this enigmatic quartet from Torino Italy. For one night only Larsen assembled their closest musical friends to play to a sold out crowd at the Teatro Colosseo in Torino Italy. The purpose of the performance was to pay tribute to the work of Czech avant garde designer, typographer, founder of Devestil and cultural radicalist Karel Teige and his Abeceda -- a 1926 collaboration with poet Vitoslav Nezva which minimalised text down to its basic components establishing a poetic dialogue between text and images. To Abeceda Larsen brings their minimalist beauty and melody with this live performance incorporating music, dance and projections. With Larsen are their close musical friends David Tibet (Current 93), Baby Dee ( Current 93 member and acclaimed solo performer), Julia Kent (Larsen/Antony & The Johnsons)Johann Johannsson (Touch/4AD) The music swells in gentle pulses of soflty stated melody. Emotion clings to each note while glistening shimmers of electonics dance quietly in the mix. The DVD reminds us of what a rich visual experience Abeceda was and is. As The Wire so perfectly put it in a extensive write up of the evening, David Tibet's performance "Provides a vital link between the music and the visuals... At one point he connects beautifully connects perfectly with the dancer, breathing deeply into the microphone in time with her movements." Visual projections, created by Bellissimo, portray a woman in a 20's style bathing suit, much like Teige's original work, portraying letters of the alphabet which slowly become obscure by Teige's brilliant typography. Thanks to Larsen's discipline and their kindred visual and musical collaborators. Abeceda is an event of great subtlety and complexity. It is truly a gift that this performance was so perfectly documented in both an audio and visual format. Where the work of Karel Teige was a tremendous gift for the eyes, Larsen & Friend's Abeceda is a gift for both the eyes and the ears. Hats off to Bellissimo, the design team responsible for Larsen's distinctive packaging, for putting the finishing touches on a perfect evening and a perfect package. "My dear friends Fabrizio and Larsen honoured me by asking me to interpret the alphabet for their project ABECEDA in the light of Nezval's verses for Karel Teige. Being neither an admirer of dada, surrealism or the avant-garde, I escaped from them all by taking a train from the seaside town of Hastings where I live, to London, after kissing my cats goodbye. I looked at the blurs of sheep, tree, hedge, sea, pond passing me like living clouds. I looked at each letter of the alphabet, and covered Nezval's text with my hand. I ordered the letter to tell me what it looked like. I disbelieved its answer. Letters always lie. So I peered at the shape of the letter and wrote down my immediate responses. They all make sense to me, but 1,000 people will see 1,000 different faces when they look at the same face. That is calling a vanished face back from behind the hill. " Love Peace Apocalypse, David Tibet, Hastings 8.IX.1006 The title says it: at the center of attention is the alphabet. In the sense of the single letters. Considered however as elements in and of themselves, gifted in some way with a true semantic individuality: the ideogram A - a hut, C - symbol of the moon ... this is how they were understood by Karel Teige: 1920's Czechoslovakian cultural radical, founder and principle theorist of the Devetsil collective, largest driving force of the local avantgard surrealists. Designer, student of architecture and visual art, Teige attacked with modern force in the exploration of the possiblity of an interweaving of verbal art and optical expression, industrial technology and mass media, inspired by the poem composed in 1923 by compatriot Vitezslav Nezval: at that time involved in Devetsil: Abeceda specifically. The same Nezval said on the subject of opera"It is intellectual exercise around the most elemental poetic object: the letters of the alphabet.". Language taken back to its minimal terminology, to the essence of spelling and fonetics of its building blocks in which derive the rhymeing quarters of every letter - 25 in total - of the latin alphabet. Ulterior developments of Abeceda made the ominous volume realized three years after Teige, that applied the notion of "poeticism" on the live body of Nezval's opera, that is, the symbiosis between visual and verbal signs which position the same fundamentals of Devetsil. In his words "The artistic fruit of Poetism is negligent, fantastic, exuberant, playful, anti-heroic and erotic.". Conceived and built as a poetic dialogue between text and images, Abeceda manifests still now the real extraordinary expressive urgency. They are established elements, as well as the verses of Nezval, the photography of Karel Paspa that paints the suggested figuration from the original text on the dancer and choreographer Milca Mayerova (she also, like the same Paspa, adhered to the Devitsil movement). Factors combined from Teige with imprint photomontage techniques, "I have tried to create a photo-style of an exquistely abstract and poetic nature, translating in graphic form that which Nezval expressed in his verses as verbal poetry.", chiosava the author. Drawn into cultural oblivion following the annexation of Czechoslovakia by Nazi Germany, the memory of Abeceda has resurfaced only recently. In 2001, when the work was at the center of the exhibition Dreams and Disillusions - Karel Teige and the Czech Avant-garde at the Grey Art Gallery in New York (occasions in which were presented the video of the subject of the year before at Wolfsonian-Florida International University), and again in the last months, inserted in the basic theme of the exposition Modernism - Designing a New World (1914 - 1939) hosted by the London museum Victoria & Albert. Teige and the other members of Devetsil would have certainly liked the ulterior declination of Abeceda built by Larsen. The Turinian group, active for more than ten years (a passage documented by six albums, the last and most recent being Seies), that communicate an eclectic and multi-disciplined approach to musical material. Specimen, in that sense, the work done years ago by Winsor McKay with his cartoons, put to music by Larsen under the wording of Cartoanimalettimatti (a project premiered in 2002 during the festival Rimusicazioni) and in general the stateless attitude with which the quartet measures the codes of rock, after the zeroing of the same rock provoked by punk, as such to make Larsen more appreciated abroad than in their own country. Reasons for which the artistic interlocutors of the Turinian group tend to place themselves beyond borders. American are both the labels - Young God and Important Records -- that have released their music so far, and many of their partners seen often by their side, Jamie Stewart (Xiu Xiu) - in the configuration called XXL, or Matmos and the ex-Swans Michael Gira and Jarboe. All icons of the independent music scene across the ocean. Some of these accomplices will play with Larsen on Abeceda : David Tibet, brain of the british "apocalyptic" project Current 93, project that also involves Baby Dee, transgender cult icon from the Manhattan off scene, same underground the cello player Julia Kent, of Antony and The Johnsons, belongs to, whereas Johann Johannsson, musician and producer that has worked with Marc Almond and Barry Adamson, comes from Island. Also on stage with the band will be the russian performer and choreographer Snejanka Mihaylova; together with Larsen, and the visuals by the Bellissimo team inspired by Tiege's Abeceda, they will set up a concert/performance in 25 movements, one for each letter of the latin alphabet; elaborate and fascinating staging, exclusive worldwide preview for the Torino Settembre Musica festival and its audience. Two figures catch the eye of the drone operator sitting in a comfortable office far away. The figures are identified as Palestinian gunmen approaching the fence separating the Gaza Strip from Israel. The two gunmen move slowly among the bushes. An Israeli unit is dispatched on a mission of interception, and you can see clearly that both sides are moving very slowly heading toward a collision. The Palestinian gunman realizes that the Israeli forces are a few feet away and opens fire. A gun battle erupts. The black dots flying everywhere are the hot rifle shells. At this point one Palestinian gunman lies dead. The explosion you see on the top right side is a grenade that was thrown by the second Palestinian gunman. The grenade explodes and doesn't injure any Israeli soldier. One of the Israeli officers is roughly five feet from the surviving gunman and he decides to charge; but he makes a crucial mistake and doesn't remember to change his empty cartridge. This is where low tech meets high tech. With all the armored gear both sides have -- night vision goggles, automatic rifles, grenades, and a sophisticated remote controlled drone in the air -- what the Israeli officer is left with is wrestling the Palestinian to the ground with his bare hands. You can see the officer standing up and running towards the Palestinian, but with no shells flying, he reaches the Palestinian and they are left tied up in a bundle, each fighting for his life. The Palestinian pulls out another grenade and the Israeli manages to turn the Palestinian in the direction of the explosion, which kills the Palestinian, and leaves the Israeli officer only slightly wounded. This piece of video is just a small and short testimony to the reality both sides face in this conflict, which occurs daily on the Israeli and Palestinian Gaza border. (Less)
