Jazz n Bass with some inteligent thrown in. Cant remember when i recorded this, was a few years ago. Its a 4 part 40 min mix. some crossfader work and LONG mixes. Thats my base style i build on. I really need to invest in a 3rd deck but ive been saying that for years. I dont preset or choose records for recordings either, i just hit record and see what happens. If i plan mixes it feels fake and I loose that chance to come across a wicked mix led by the records and the moment. It also means any mistakes or dodgy combinations are there for all to see. Complete transperancy in the mix. Which i may cringe upon hearing but i wouldnt do it any other way. (there is a single moment of this in part 3 of the Funk Luvin' Soul Session where 2 records wobble about only slightly but the sounds at the time have a very distinct pitch and you can hear the movement.) Nothing I find more boring and un challenging as short very orthodox mixes. Take risks in your mixes, dont be affraid of dropping the beat, if you do and if your good enough you will rectify it quickly. By pushing your self further you will master more and then feel the thirst for more, another deck, effects units, samplers... Do NOT ignore that thirst. Act on it. Djing is about expression, a soul less program can beatmatch and crossfade tracks to a set format by itself simply these days. DJ's now have to step up and proove they can do what software cant. Add soul. With all the advances over the last decade its come to the point anyone can mix music with ease with the aid of technology and this hurts. Turntablists need to reclaim the term DJ. Im not against the new advances I just feel that the term "DJ" has gone from something you had to earn through perfecting your art to one you can pull out of a box. The mixes are extremely long (to the point of having long periods of nothing to keep the beat with but faith during break downs) and barely noticeable a lot of the time till you get to the next song, I tried being as subtle as possible so the tracks could stand on their own but at the same time droppin a few beats here n there, bringing back the next tune to the start again to replay some of the initial beats, anyway i digress. This has Adam F, Omni Trio, EZ Rollers, John B, Guardians of Dalliance and a few from the Good Lookin Records camp Makoto and a few others. If i can be bothered ill go back and identify the more unknown tunes. Most of these tunes stand up themselves as brilliant musical compositions with wide mass apeal not just for the dnb heads.
