I KNOW HIM SO WELL
Nothing is so good it lasts eternally
Perfect situations must go wrong
But this has never yet prevented me
Wanting far too much for far (More) Love theme from the musical CHESS.
I KNOW HIM SO WELL
Nothing is so good it lasts eternally
Perfect situations must go wrong
But this has never yet prevented me
Wanting far too much for far too long.
Looking back I could have played it differently
Won a few more moments who can tell
But it took time to understand the man
Now at least I know I know him well.
Wasnt it good? oh so good
Wasnt he fine? oh so fine
Isnt it madness he cant be mine?
But in the end he needs
A little bit more than me
More security
He needs his fantasy and freedom
I know him so well.
No one in your life is with you constantly
No one is completely on your side
And though I move my world to be with him
Still the gap between us is too wide.
Looking back I could have played it differently
Could have played things some other way.
Learn about the man before I fell
I was just a little careless maybe
But I was ever so much younger then.
I was so much younger then
Now at least I know I know him well
Wasnt it good? oh so good
Wasnt he fine? oh so fine
Isnt it madness he wont be mine?
Didnt I know how it would go?
If I knew from the start
Why am I falling apart?
Wasnt he fine? isnt it madness
He wont be mine?
But in the end he needs a little bit more than me
More security
He needs his fantasy and freedom
I know him so well
It took time to understand me
I know him so well.
Music by: Bjorn Ulvaeus & Benny Andersson. Lyrics by: Tim Rice
CHESS, A musical ( Wikipedia):
"Chess is a musical with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, formerly of ABBA. The story involves a romantic triangle between two players in a world chess championship, and a woman who manages one and falls in love with the other. Although the protagonists were not intended to represent any specific individuals, the characters' personalities are loosely based on those of Victor Korchnoi and Bobby Fischer."
Video: ERASMUS HALL HIGH SCHOOL, Brooklyn, New York. Circa 1955-1960.
Barbra Streisand's Alma Mater, ERASMUS HALL
HIGH SCHOOL, located on Flatbush Avenue in
Brooklyn. Barbra graduated in January 1959,
so let's assume she attended that school
from 1955-1959. She sang in the school choir
along with a future duet partner named Neil
Diamond. She was described by her fellow
student as sort of a loner, dreaming of
becoming a famous actress. At the school
cafeteria she sat opposite another loner
living in his dream world, chess maven
Bobby Fischer. He was already becoming
famous in Chess circles, and newspapers
articles and TV shows mentioned the wiz kid
from Brooklyn's ERASMUS HALL H.S.. I wonder
if he was the one who taught Barbra how to
play chess. Other future famous at Erasmus
High School at this period were basketball
player Billy Cunningham, musical arranger
Artie Butler, and Richard Hirschman (D.D.S.). Don K. Reed, (1960) (disc jockey, hosted "The Doo-Wop Shop" radio show on New York oldies station WCBS-FM.).Lainie Kazan (Lainie Levine), (1956); Broadway, film and TV actress and singer..
BOBBY FISCHER: "In 1956, when he was 13, he became the youngest winner of the U.S. Junior Championship. In 1958, he stunned the American chess world by winning the U.S. championship, which qualified him to play in the Interzonal Tournament in Portoroz, Yugoslavia. He became the youngest international grandmaster in the history of the game."
"At Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, he excelled in Spanish, math and the sciences but considered his teachers "all mental cases." He devoured chess books and magazines, including the Russian publication Shakhmaty.
In 1957, in Cleveland, the gangly kid from Brooklyn won the U.S. open championship in a field of 175 players, tying with U.S. champion Arthur B. Bisguier. The victory qualified him for the U.S. Chess Federation's championship tournament at the Manhattan Chess Club, where, on Jan. 7, 1958, the 14-year-old defeated Bisguier, thus becoming U.S. champion."
The Chess game shown at the end of the video
is part of the 1958 encounter between Bobby
Fischer and Bent Larsen. Bobby Fischer played white. Wonder if he discussed the
game with Barbra at the school cafeteria.
Guess we'll have to wait for Barbra's autobiography to know more about her years
at ERASMUS HALL HIGH SCHOOL.

Dedicated to the magnificent artist and singer Barbra Streisand. this song is a classic of the play "One Touch Of Venus" and belongs to Album "Back To Broadway" I hope you enjoy this song as much as I do.
"Speak Low"
Speak low when you speak love
Our summer day withers away too soon, too soon
Speak low when you speak love
Our moment is swift, like ships
adrift, we're swept apart, too
soon
Speak low, darling, speak low
Love is a spark, lost in the
dark too soon, too soon.
I feel wherever I go
That tomorrow is near,
Tomorrow is here and always too soon,
Time is so old and love so brief
[Más Letras en es.mp3lyrics.org/cEv]
Love is pure gold and time a thief.
We're late, darling, we're late,
The curtain descends, everything
ends too soon, too soon.
I wait, darling, I wait,
Will you speak low to me, speak
love to me and soon...
I wait, darling, I wait,
Will you speak low to me,
Slow to me, oh please,
Just don't say no to me
Let it flow to me, slow to me
Soon...Soon...Soon...
Ooo...Soon...Darling, speak low to me
Darling, speak slow to me...
Oh, oh, oh! (Less)

Note: The " Somewhere: (ballet) " is not
found in the film version of this musical.
Streisand on "SOMEWHERE": I think its message is universal. One can listen to the lyric of "Somewhere" and relate to it on any level. From whatever walk of life you are, from whatever perspective you have, somehow you can relate to "Somewhere."
14.Somewhere (Ballet)
TONY:
And - and
And I'll take you away, take you far, far away out of here,
Far, far away till the walls and the streets disappear.
TONY and MARIA:
Somewhere there must be a place we can feel we're free,
Somewhere there's got to be some place for you and for me.
(As he sings, the walls of the apartment begin to move off,
leaving city walls surrounding them. The two lovers begin to
run, battering against the walls of the city, breaking through
as chaotic figures of the violent gangs flail around them.
But they do break through and suddenly they are in a world of
space and air and sun. They stop, looking at if, pleased,
startled as boys and girls from both sides come on.)
SCHERZO
(They begin to dance, to play: no sides, no hostility now;
just joy and pleasure and warmth. As Tony and Maria begin
the steps of a gentle love dance, a voice is heard singing.)
15.Somewhere [ Top ]
Consuelo:
There's a place for us,
Somewhere a place for us.
Peace and quiet and open air
Wait for us
Somewhere.
There's a time for us,
Some day a time for us.
Time together and time to spare,
Time to look, time to care
Some day!
Somewhere
We'll find a new way of living,
Will find there's a way of forgiving
Somewhere...
There's a place for us,
A time and place for us.
Hold my hand and we're halfway there
Hold my hand and I'll take you there
Somehow...
Some day...
Somewhere...
PROCESSION AND NIGHTMARE
(The lovers hold out their hands to each other,
the others follow suit - Jets to Sharks;
Sharks to Jets and form a sort of procession.)
ALL:
There's a place for us...
(Suddenly there is a dead stop. The figures of Riff
and Bernardo slowly walk on. The dream becomes a
nightmare: as the city returns, there are brief
reenactments of the knife fight, of the deaths Maria
and Tony are once again separated from each other by the
violent warring of the two sides. Maria tries to reach
Bernardo, Tony tries to stop Riff; the lovers try to
reach each other but cannot. Chaotic confusion and
blackness out of which they find themselves back in the
bedroom, clinging to each other desperately.)
TONY:
Hold my hand and we're halfway there
Hold my hand and I'll take you there
TONY and MARIA:
Somehow...
Some day...
Somewhere!
(They sink back together on the bed.)

Born Thomas James Tune, Tommy first introduced "New York At Christmas" to the stage in his off-Broadway review, White Tie and Tails, at The Little Schubert Theater on West 42nd Street, NYC.
Tommy has sung and danced for three U.S. Presidents, Queen Elizabeth II, The Royal Family of Monaco. In 1991, Gwen Verdon inducted him into Broadway's Theatre Hall of Fame, and Hollywood soon followed suit when three years later he was honored with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame appropriately placed directly in front of the Capezio Dancewear shop. He is both colleague and friend to luminaries worldwide: Twiggy / The Boy Friend / Nine, Liliane Montevecchi / Nine, Lucie Arnaz, Peggy Lee, Lillian Gish, Mary Martin, Morgana King, Howard Keel, Betty Hutton, Edward Everett Horton, Gregory Hines, Perry Como, Martha Raye, Jaye P. The President of The United States presented Tommy with The National Medal of Arts in November 2003. He added this honor to his already unprecedented nine Tony Awards in four different categories plus, eight Drama Desk Awards, two Obie Awards, two (Fred) Astaire Awards, the American Dance Award, the Drama League Award, and the George Abbott Award for Lifetime Achievement... and they keep coming!
In 1965 Tommy first danced on Broadway in the chorus of "Baker Street". In 1967 he was in A "Joyful Noise" and 1968, "How Now Dow Jones". Five years and countless raves later Tommy received his first Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical in Michael Bennett's, "Seesaw".
Tune's directing debut was the Off-Broadway hit, "The Club", in 1976. Back on Broadway, but this time as choreographer and co-director Tune gave us "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" followed by "A Day in Hollywood / A Night in the Ukraine", for which he won his second Tony Award, this time for Best Choreography.
Tommy returned to Off-Broadway in 1981 to direct the highly controversial production of Carol Churchill's "Cloud 9". The next year Tommy brought us "Nine", The Musical for which he won his third Tony, his first for directing a Broadway Musical. A double Tony Award win followed for Tommy as Best Actor in a Musical and Best Choreography for the Broadway hit "My One and Only" co-starring Twiggy. "Grand Hotel", The Musical followed with Tony wins for Best Choreography and Best Direction and the following year, Tommy did what no artist had done before when he won the same two prestigious honors back to back this time for, "The Will Rogers Follies".
Tommy has shied away from Hollywood moviemaking, appearing in only two films early in his career. Tommy played Ambrose Kemper in "Hello, Dolly" starring Barbra Streisand, Walter Matthau, Michael Crawford, Louis Armstrong and directed by Gene Kelly. Tommy played "Tommy" in Ken Russell's "The Boy Friend" and starred with Twiggy.
In 1997 Tommy wrote, Footnotes, a memoir about his life in the theatre. The same year he recorded Slow Dancin', a CD compilation of his favorite romantic ballads. The end of the millennium was the beginning of a dream come when Tommy made his Las Vegas debut as the star of EFX, the ninety million dollar spectacular at the MGM Grand Hotel.
Tommy's latest production, Doctor Dolittle, toured the US in 2006. He resides in New York City and is currently preparing two original musicals for the near future. He spends the rest of his time painting
I first met Tommy through our mutual friend Michel Stuart in 1974. I went to his loft, "Giraffe House", to audition some new songs for him. Years later, Tommy chose to sing "New York at Christmas". My mother passed away a few days after his opening night at The Little Schubert. Tommy and his assistant, dear, dear Peter Glebo were kind enough to find me last minute seat whenever I called. The music to the intro would come up, it began to snow onstage, Tommy would begin to sing and I would cry, every time... I forgot to mention that
Tommy is 6' 6 1/2" tall, a really big guy! Tommy is a truly brilliant, sweet and very kind man.
I hope you enjoy the song,
Sincerely,
Richard Currier

In Australi en Nederland hebben ze rond dat moment hun eerste hit met Spicks and specks, in Engeland en elders volgen nummers als New York mining disaster 1941, Massachusetts, Words, World, I've gotta get a message to you en Holiday. Haar grootste hit kwam in 1977 met haar nr.1. uit Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, "If I Can't Have You" ook geschreven door de Bee Gees. Er volgen een serie kleinere hits in 1979, zoals de titelsong van de film Moment by Moment en een andere disco lied "Love Pains". Ze verscheen in een tweedelige episode van de televisieserie "Hawaii Five-O". Andere hits waren "I Can't Get You Out of my Mind" met co-star James Darren en "Savannah". (Less)
