The (More) http://www.justa11en.com The CBS prime time broadcast of Kimbo Slice vs. James Thompson (EliteXC), along with the Urijah Faver vs Jens Pulver (WEC) match, ushered in a new era of cage fighting. The WEC match was a classic battle, while the EliteXC event was an overhyped fiasco, that received far more attention. Kevin Ferguson (Kimbo) is a relative amateur, having competed in only 3 professional fights. His meteoric rise to fame, can be attributed to multiple filmed underground street fights, posted on YouTube. The evolution of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), has brought MMA into the spotlight, and helped it develop into one of the fastest growing sports. Multiple professional organizations have followed suit, and found a niche for their brand of fighting. While many compare the combatants to the Gladiators, of ancient Rome, modern rules now provide a much safer contest for the athletes. MMA is drastically different, from what took place, in the cage, 10-15 years ago, when serious injury was common place. It is unique in it's inclusion of all fighting styles, and has become a proverbial melting pot for men of all sizes, shapes, and backgrounds. I've watched MMA, off and on, for sometime. The hype surrounding the prime time debut of the sport, made me dig a little deeper into Kimbo's background, and follow several of the organizations more closely. I've been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the UFC, WEC, and IFL . EliteXC is a second rate organization, with C level talent, and I would be surprised if Kimbo could compete with any of the top level fighters, from the major organizations. Make no mistake. He is a bad man, but not "elite." His victory was over a tomato can, with a 2-7 professional record. EliteXC's show had less than 3 minutes of actual fighting, in the 1st 70 minutes. It was smoke and mirrors, and a poor representation of what fans have come to enjoy. Many purist wonder if this will help, or harm, MMA's long term growth. I understand the criticism of CBS, and EliteXC, for putting on such a poor production. Much of it is also seems unfairly directed at Slice, who is only taking a large paycheck for doing something he was doing for free. I don't blame the guy. At his age, he has a very short timeframe to capitalize on his.....um..... talent. =) My point? The "hype" motivated me to give the sport a closer look, and I found something I thoroughly enjoy. Hence the video, that I hope conveys "what" I like about MMA. The Pulver vs. Faber fight is a much better example of highly skilled mixed martial artist. I believe some of the footage, that I've captured for this video, is a fine example also. A rare combination of Grace, and brutality. A Blood Ballet. (dramatic huh?) Thanks for watching. Blotet var tre gånger så långt, (More) Denna video visar i nedkortad form ett personligt blot hållet vid mitt hemmavi (husaltare, hemaltare, andaktshörna) jag har i köket. Blotet var tre gånger så långt, men här visar jag bara de intressantaste delarna och hoppar över de tysta partierna. Blotet är den viktigaste ritualen inom asatro och forn sed. Jag börjar med att tända tre ljus, vilka står i flaskor helt täckta av cirka 20 års avlagrad stearin. Jag tänder sedan rökelse och tecknar med den hammartecknet i de sex kardinalriktningarna (öster, söder, väster, norr, ovan och nedan). Därefter häller jag upp mjöd i en bägare och stänker detta i de sex riktningarna medan jag läser bönen ur Sigrdrífumál på isländska "Heill Dagur! Heilir Dags synir! Heil Nótt og nift! Heilir Æsir! Heilar Ásynjur! Heil sjá in fjölnýta fold!" (dock med vissa felläsningar och feluttal). På svenska lyder den ungefär "Hell Dag! Hell Dags söner! Hell Natt och hennes släkting! Hell Asar! Hell Asynjor! Hell du givmilda Jord!" Därefter utbringar jag tre skålar som tack till Frigg, Tor och Oden. Jag tackar så alla makter och avslutar blotet med att "myssla" (vissla svagt) en improviserad melodi. Med undantag för mjödet är inget av redskapen eller föremålen specialtillverkade för asatro-ceremonier. Detta är något jag verkligen gillar med forn sed! Man behöver inte skaffa några speciella rituella verktyg utan kan använda vad man har tillgängligt för tillfället. Forn Sed: A Personal Blót at the Home "Altar"/Shrine This video shows a private, personal blót in shortened form. The blót is held at my Vé ("altar") in my kitchen. The actual blót was thrice as long, but I have omitted most of the silent parts. The blót is the most important ritual in Asatru and Forn Sed (Norse paganism). I start with lightning three candles. Next I light an incense stick and with the stick I do the hammer sign i all six cardinal directions (east, south, west, north, above, and below). Next I pour mead in a cup and sprinkle the mead in all six directions while I read the prayer from Sigrdrífumál in Icelandic "Heill Dagur! Heilir Dags synir! Heil Nótt og nift! Heilir Æsir! Heilar Ásynjur! Heil sjá in fjölnýta fold!" (thou I say a few things a bit wrong). In English it goes "Hail Day! Hail sons of Day! Hail Night and her kin! Hail Aesir! Hail Asynjur! Hail the nurturing Earth!" Next I made three toastings to thank Frigg (Goddess of Wisdom), Thor (God of Strength), and Odin (God of Wisdom). I thank all the powers, and concludes the blót by faintly whisteling an improvised tune. Apart from the mead none of the tools or used objects are specially made for Asatru rituals. This is one of the things I like with Forn Sed, you don't have to use special tools for the rituals, but instead you can use what you have at the moment. (Less)
