All other YouTube copies of this either feature the WRONG version of 'Jugband Blues' and one, which has the right soundtrack, is all squashed up. This was screened in perfect but still very scratchy condition on BBC's '7 Ages Of Rock' documentary. It was also shown wider than it is here with more of the picture on the sides. They didn't show it complete though, just sections. This version is the only way to see the whole thing, in slightly lesser quality. A better quality version of complete clip has yet to surface. Filmed in December 1967, the soundtrack didn't survive (as this film was found in a shed in the late 90s covered in mould) so someone edited on the BBC version as the soundtrack, this was NOT the version they were miming to. Someone has put back on the album track and matched it up as best they could. This is from the text file that was included with the film, written by the person who corrected the soundtrack: "However, there was another strange story involving "Jugband Blues". Sometime in November 1967 when "Apples" had flopped, the Floyd were commissioned to make a promo film for the "Ministry Of Information". The motives were unknown, never mind what the film would be used for. The Floyd did indeed make this film and the song they chose was "Jugband Blues"! This became a bit of a legend over the years since virtually nobody had ever seen it and it was presumed missing and lost. The very idea of a film performance of this song was mind boggling and many of us presumed it could well be a jokey rumour. Then, in 1999 a copy of the film turned up in Manchester! It was in a rough battered state, the soundtrack was virtually non-existent, but the pictures were watchable. Whoever found it took it upon himself to redub the film and chose the version they recorded for the BBC in December 1967. I finally got a copy of it last year and it immediately bugged me because the soundtrack didn't exactly fit at all well. So, I took it upon myself to try and resolve this issue. First, the film was shot before the BBC session, so there was no way that could have been the soundtrack. Then I did some research into their recording sessions and discovered that it had already been mixed into mono, which was still the main format for the time. The mono mix of the song is slightly longer and since there was no way it would have used the stereo mix, the mono mix HAD to be the original soundtrack, but when I tried to synch it up, it didn't quite work. I carefully looked at the film again and did some experiments. I found a rather stray shot in the chaotic section. I found that this brief shot actually was the beginning of an earlier shot where the camera pans down onto Syd. So, I cut this shot out and put it back into its rightful place and then tried synching it up again. To my astonishment, it fit perfectly! Now, Syds lips were actually in synch as well as all the camera cuts! But there was still the problem of the first 20 seconds which wouldn't synch at all. For this, I had to use pitch shifting to get it into place... (this explains the slightly peculiar sound in the first section) I was stunned when I finally played it back and a shiver went up my spine seeing Syd miming perfectly to those killer final lines and turns away from the camera. So now I had a new master of this film. I have checked around and noticed that all copies in circulation are still using the wrong soundtrack... it seems nobody else had actually taken the time and trouble with it like I had! So, here it is, for the very first time as far as I know, the promo film of Pink Floyds' "Jugband Blues" with its proper soundtrack in place. A great film and a fascinating slice of Floyd history that deserves a better fate... see what you think!" (Less)

"Flamingo Blues" is a sultry, jazz-infused murder mystery set in Chicago in the summer of 1952; with upbeat dance numbers, rich vocals and an intriguing story line in the best traditions of film noir. The journey from rehearsals to stage was documented over 6 months with stills and film by photographer and filmmaker Daniel D Moses. The 53 minute documentary, which showed intensive rehearsals, learning processes, publicity on the BBC and ITV and final week of the production; formed the core of an EPK (Electronic Press Kit) for the production which also included the trailers, production stills, dance routines and music. danielmoses.com/flamingoblues OR WATCH HERE IN LITTLE SECTIONS PART 1: INTRODUCING YPTC AND FLAMINGO BLUES The introducing section welcomes you to the world of YPTC; it's aims, ethos, players and coaches and explains the story and background of film noir musical "Flamingo Blues" vimeo.com/5623848 PART 2: SURPRISE AT CLARENCE HALL AND FUNDRAISING As rehearsals for the show get under way, a special guest makes an appearance at Clarence Hall, the home of YPTC to lend some advice and possibly spot some talent. Fundraising is an essential part of YPTC; without which the productions cannot go ahead. Appearing on ITV's "Million Pound Giveaway" programme and raising money in Covent Garden, the experience is a challenge vimeo.com/5623862 PART 3: DANCE, MUSIC, VOICE AND ACTING Covering the 4 disciplines that YPTC teaches- Dance, Music, Voice and Acting. The coaches and students talk about their experiences in these areas and how it applies to "Flamingo Blues" vimeo.com/5623872 PART 4: DESIGNING FLAMINGO BLUES AND PUBLICITY The aesthetic quality of "Flamingo Blues" was important, as is the nature of the film noir medium, so dressing the show was key; involving costume, hair and makeup and the set. YPTC took many opportunities to publicise the show including produced a trailer and flyering in costume all over London. vimeo.com/5623904 PART 5: FINAL WEEK AT UNICORN THEATRE It's the final week before the show and as the set is moved into the theatre, the cast find their new space and learn to adapt vimeo.com/5624226 PART 6: SHOWTIME AND CURTAIN DOWN After the tense build up, the curtain rises and falls on the production; and the cast discuss their experiences both personal and professional as they reflect on the performance vimeo.com/5624324 PART 7: OUTTAKES To accompany the credit roll, a selection of outtakes from the whole process are shown. MAPLEBLUES MAGAZINE REVIEW - about the new CD Humdinger..."There is a lovely, intimate ambience here with the feeling that these are four friends who just set up in your rec room to play some new songs for you... The songs are a well-sequenced selection of modern electric blues. Jerome is in excellent voice and this is one fine band with Kellerman being especially inventive." - John Valenteyn (2007) www.torontobluessociety.com/0709johnspic ks.htm

This number:
Hardstyle/Hardcore

Hardstyle, sometimes referred to as hardbass, is a sub-genre of trance music that is closely related to nu style gabber and hard trance. Its sound is usually characterized by a four to the floor kick beat and an off-beat gabber style bass line, trance like synth stabs and sweeps and miscellaneous samples. Tracks often feature excessive reverb and/or other effects, breakdowns and occasionally small breakbeat sections. The average tempo is between 140 and 150 bpm, around 30 slower than nu style gabber. Many hardcore artists produce hardstyle songs, which sound very similar but are more accessible. Hardstyle is generally played along side Nu-NRG and gabber in the UK and aside hard trance or hardcore in the rest of Europe.
Hardstyle is a European music style and is mainly produced by artists from The Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland and Germany, yet other producers from around the world are starting to pick up the sound.
Currently, the scene is booming in various countries around the world besides these founding countries. Notable scenes include those in Germany, United States, Israel, Belgium, Spain, Poland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Estonia, Denmark, South Africa and the United Kingdom - notably Scotland and Wales . It is also popular in Australia and Malaysia where hardstyle is tremendously popular due to the Melbourne Shuffle, also known as shuffling.
Currently the Hardstyle Category is split into 3 subcategories:
Dutch Hardstyle - Typically harder and darker than other hardstyle, mostly known for its hard base line, wicked kicks and dirty vocals
Italian Hardstyle - More serious, usually has a bigger melodic breakdown and typically 'gangsta'-themed lyrics
Nu-Style - Usually deeper and more complex than early hardstyle, mashed out with samples and lower use of reverse bass and/or reverb. The bass is fillterd and distorted to creat a grungey bass drive. Many of hardstyle's biggest DJs, especially those from Holland, have evolved into Nu-Style
The Leading Event Group in the hardstyle scene is Q-dance, arranging massive events in football stadiums, sports grounds, public arenas and airports. Most events are held in the Netherlands. BIONIC is a cardiff based event however branch out into events such as Westfest.
A dance that is popular mainly in Europe is 'jumpstyle'. Originating in Belgium this is now becoming more popular amongst the newer hardstylers, but once again mainly in Europe. In the Netherlands, however, jumpstyle is thought too commercial by many hardstyle and hardcore fans. Some of these fans are learning the Melbourne Shuffle that originates from Melbourne, Australia, and has a tremendous popularity among nearly all ages from 10-30 in both Melbourne, and Sydney, as well as the rest of Australia. Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia is also home to the shuffling team Hardstyle Republic, and many Europe dwellers are learning to shuffle from this incredibly popular group, mainly to hardstyle music. Stomping is also a form of the shuffling, and is done to hardstyle music too.

This song was recorded live and you can see all the technical problems that performers face when singing live and travelling all over the country to venues far and wide.
This video is a sort of "Out Takes" version of a live performance.
History of the Song
The song was recorded over three weeks by the band and producer Roy Thomas Baker. Recording began at Rockfield Studio near Monmouth on August 24, 1975, after a 3-week rehearsal period in Herefordshire. During the making of the track, a further four studios -- Roundhouse, SARM (East), Scorpion, and Wessex -- were used. According to some band members, Mercury had worked out the entire song in his head and directed the band through the song.
Brian May, Mercury and Roger Taylor sang their vocal parts continually for ten to twelve hours a day, resulting in 200 separate overdubs. Since the studios of the time only offered 24-track analogue tape, it was necessary for May, Mercury and Taylor to overdub themselves many times, and "bounce" these down to successive sub mixes. In the end, eighth-generation tapes were being used. The tapes had passed over the recording heads so many times the normally opaque tapes could be seen through, as the oxide layer was beginning to wear off. The various sections of tape containing the desired sub mixes would have to be cut with razor blades and spliced together in the correct sequence using adhesive tape (splicing tape).
A backing track of the grand piano (Mercury), bass guitar (John Deacon) and drums (Taylor) was recorded first. The band used many instruments to produce the song, including a Fender Precision Electric Bass, May's Red Special electric guitar, Ludwig Drums, timpani and a Paiste Gong. Mercury used a Bechstein "Concert" Grand Piano, the same he'd later play in both the promotional video and the UK Tour. When it was finished it was the most expensive single ever made and remains one of the most elaborate recordings in music history.
When Mercury wanted to release the single in 1975, it had been suggested to him that, at 5 minutes and 55 seconds, it was far too long and would thus never be a hit. But Mercury gave a copy of the single to friend and London DJ Kenny Everett, informing him (with a wink and a nod) that it was for him personally, and that he must never play it on air. Mercury's plan (a form of reverse psychology) worked -- Everett did just the opposite, teasing his listeners by playing bits and pieces of the song throughout his show. Ultimately, Everett would go on to play the song as many as fourteen times in a single day. From then on, every major radio station played the song in full. The track proved popular and was released with "I'm in Love with My Car" as the B-side. (Less)

I play one handed at 2:00
And I play over the top of the guitar at 6:00
This whole thing is an improv though I had small sections worked out that I fell back on so I guess its not really improved the WHOLE way through!
Also, this song uses a backing track from another song. I can't play the durms well and feel it really holds me back when makin my own tracks. I point it out because on all my other origional songs I play all the instuments ...what songs backin track did I use?? I'll never tell though I thought it was obvious...I never looked at the tab && its not really a fav song o mine so my take is very diffrent & original. I just want to work a few songs to pretend I had a band that could contibute so I can work on my guitar / lyrics rather than spendin a whole day on a 10 sec drum loop.
Anyway ROCK ON!!!! (Less)

It's a medley, Celtic traditional death lament(normally 5 sections), with a nod to the great Huddie Leadbetter's interpretation, one of the GREAT country folk blues classics. The performance was abbreviated for a BBC session. 12 string acoustic was too much to keep in tune, so Ben left it a home. The Blue Rider acoustc trio was recorded in 1996.

MAPLEBLUES MAGAZINE REVIEW - about Humdinger..."There is a lovely, intimate ambience here with the feeling that these are four friends who just set up in your rec room to play some new songs for you... The songs are a well-sequenced selection of modern electric blues. Jerome is in excellent voice and this is one fine band with Kellerman being especially inventive." - John Valenteyn (2007) www.torontobluessociety.com/0709johnspic ks.htm
