The Turkish word is "soy-kirim" with the same meaning soy=kin and kirim=slaughter. The Hebrew root of the word comes from the Greek also. Taner Akcam in his 2006 book "A Shameful Act" defines genocide as: "the partial or complete destruction of an ethnic, national, racial or religious group, whether in periods of peace or war" p.9.
